Finally someone that explained the relay wiring and demonstrated how to do it no more burning up wires on my J10 Jeep truck thanks a lot man.... live long and prosper ! !
Iv been trawling through videos for a couple of hrs and this is how it should be shown well done man highly impressed forget the rest of them back and forth all over the place and ud be still confused thanks
Thanks Rocky! all the videos I viewed just show a diagram where the wires go. I love the hands on actual wiring of the relays. Great video. Thanks again and cheers from Motown!
Thank you for that demo, thank goodness there are folk like you who are willing to take the time to show people like me how something is done. Much obliged. Barry
Thank you very much ive seen like 5 previous videos and just didnt get how it works and you made it simple and very easy to understand people couldn't do it simple as this thanks.
Best how to wire relay I've found. Thank you. The led drl's I installed on my 2007 Toyota Tundra caused me problems after 5 years. They came with a harness and tapped into the acc and headlight + so they would come on when the truck was started. I've decided to wire them to a switch in the cab so I can turn them on and off as I choose. I have to figure out which wires are which coming off of the harness. That shouldn't be too difficult. I already have the switch. Just need to get the relay and in line fuse. Thank you. I look forward to future how to videos.
I'm glad you found the video useful, thanks for watching and I wish you luck with your install! Keep in mind that some Toyota's use a "positive ground" setup for their lights. This meaning they don't use the positive wire on the switch, they use the ground on the switch and the power is on all the time. Some quick probing around with a multi-meter will tell you if yours is wired like this.
Great little vid on a common subject that I needed to know and the first one that has the little side window showing the pin-out and the numbers associated with each wire, good job!
Hooked up a set of l.e.d. running lights to my harley road glide. After a near nuclear explosion and going crazy I found your video. Thanks to you I have nice set of fork mounted lights that look good and no melted wires or blown fuses or hot as F##$ resisters.
Superb instructional. I had been looking for a video on how to marry a pushbutton light with a relay. the other videos watched were super confusing, You made it quite simple and understandable by not assuming knowledge on behalf of your audience. Thanks so much sir
@@RockyXTV I am building a system for a guy. It's a surround sound system to be used outdoors at a drive in theater. He only wanted one switch, and the switch was rated at only 5A. I knew it would not be enough, especially since I am installing a huge 2.1 amp, and a voltage booster, that will power the amp at 48 volts. I used a 12 volt, 40 A relay. Your video was perfect. If you get a chance, check out my channel. I will definitely be watching more of your videos.
Very nicely done! You are a fine instructor. You made things that seem very difficult to understand much easier to comprehend. Also used camera angles and close-ups at just the right time. Kudos.
That was honestly the best explanation on how to hook up a relay and what the terminals are used for great work I am now subscribe to your Channel and just to let you know I watched over 20 relay videos
thank you les chat and to the point great thank you.the other ones I seen talked about everything and about nothing ,you were right to the point and made easy again thank you.
@@RockyXTV I wired my 4 pin relay to with the add-a-circuit adapter... my fog lights now work as DRL with my key ignition and engine 'ON' and switches 'OFF' when the key or engine is off... Thanks for the simplicity you used in communicating the concept - I owe my new skill to you! Cheers!
A big thank you from England. My fuse in the engine compartment kept blowing. I followed your video on the relay and rewired my relay the correct way round...problem solved, thanks again.
Holy shit. I feel like I can wire anything with this info. I installed fog lights, HID lights, HALO lights, and even switched out my manual windows to power windows. I wired that up with this info. Never expected to add so many accessories. I need to make a relay box to make it look nice. Wires are everywhere.
Hi I have problem whit my fog lights the switch turn on and the lights not I have a red wiring on the battery whit fuse and other wiring orange this one I check on the relay is don't have power when I turn on what you thing the bulbs all ok thank you very much
If you have power going to the relay, but not coming out of the relay it sounds like a bad relay. Try having someone turn the fog lights on while you stand near the relay. Listen for a click, if there's no click, then most likely the relay is bad.
With the help of this video I was able to wire three lights to two relays and one rocker switch. The lights came with a harness that was wired incorrectly.
Great vid, fab explanation. Wondering why not just use a 4 pin relay for that application. Leaving it blank just leaves a “hot” terminal that could potentially short out.
can you tap off the big IN cable with a small wire to going to the switch instead of running a whole new wire all the way back to the battery (I'm doing a 24 volt light bar). Don't want to have to run another wire back to the 24 volt battery
Another question I’m hooking up aftermarket power windows can I use a negative trigger? the windows have a switch itself to go up and down I just need to hook a switch up so it’s not constantly draining while the car is parked
That should be fine, I can't say 100% though without being familiar with the system you have. If the aftermarket windows are draining your battery there may be an issue somewhere though.
@@RockyXTV it’s a aftermarket one off of Amazon I’m installing them just didn’t no how to power them so I thought I’d learn how to wire a relay. The relay will work I figured it all out now thanks to you and a few ppl here on TH-cam you guys rock thanks dude
@@RockyXTV was going to use a fuse tap but those can’t handle more then 10 amp and the aftermarket power windows kit is 30amp so the relay is the best for what I’m trying to do
That is a "standard" way of wiring in a relay. This makes it so you can only turn on that relay if your key is on, and also can't accidentally leave it on. I like the ability to turn on my accessories whenever I want, that's why I wire pin 30 directly to battery power. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching!
Hella brand uses this relay design quite a bit, and yes you are correct. It is so you can power a pair of lights/accessories without having to splice them together. There are many, many different types of relay so always look over their design if possible.
3 years later and it is still the best video i have found so far!
I agree
I’ve watched 3 videos and NONE OF THEM MADE SENSE.
This is how you do it, thanks for the vid man!
Much appreciated!
Thank you very much!
Yes, FINALLY a video that EXPLAINS a relay and where everything goes! Only one on TH-cam I'm pretty sure. 🤣

No shit, ive been struggling for days figuring out relays, and youre the only one that made it make sense.
As simple as this video is, it should be the only one to populate when “how to run a simple relay” is searched. OUTSTANDING job.
I always come back to this video for relays.
