  • I just received my new binoculars. I sold my 8.5x42 el to get these, for a couple couple reasons. Initial thoughts are that these are an improvement over the EL. They function smoother, the eye cups have more settings, the balance is great, the shape of them is very nice in your hands, and of course the glass is as good as it gets. Thanks to Cody at Gohunt for helping me make my purchase on these. Give him a call with your optics needs. I recorded and edited this quick video on my phone, so don't hold my feet to the coals with complaints. Let me know what other things you're curious about with these.

I upgraded from the EL to the NL Pure and have zero regrets about it. I much prefer the clamp style mount over the post and stud style system!

I have owned many top bins and I settled on compact size due to weight so the Swarovski EL 10x32 was my bin of choice. I just got the NL Pure 10x32 and it is clearly the best view I have ever had. The balance and ergonomics are amazing. The color is RICH with a sparkling clarity. The EL's feel clunky and unbalanced in my hands now.

Nice! I got the NL 12x42 recently. I like the quality and finish and pretty much everything e.g., light weight, compact, ergonomic, wide view, sharpness. Unfortunately the image is not as bright as my Zeiss Victory HT 8x42 under low light condition. I know it is not a fair comparison as they have different magnifications. I wonder the NL 8x42 is as bright as the Zeiss HT 8x42.

Victory HT uses AK prism and has world class light transmission in the 96 percent range. NL pure uses less efficient SP for a total transmission of around 91 percent. Unfortunately Victory HT doesn’t have as flat a transmission curve across all colors so accuracy is not as good at the wavelength extremes of blue/purple and red. FOV and optic performance at the edges also isn’t as good as NL Pure. Both are world class alpha binoculars though.

Yeah that is a great question. We can read what the companies advertise but that would be nice to personally give them a try! My only Zeiss product is a Harpia 95, which I like.

It was not made for low light conditions bud for bird spotting.

I’d like to see what tripod clamp you use. I wish Swarowski would add a robust stud option.

I have the Dead-on industry clamp. Honestly haven't tried to use it yet but I do have an opinion on it. It feels nice but I dislike how narrow the mounting surface is. I feel like it's more apt to damage the finish of the binocular. The Really Right Stuff clamp looks superior, however I haven't had one in my hand. I literally just put on The Outdoorsmans stud so that I can quickly switch between these and my 15's. It just made sense. After putting on the stud I feel pretty good about the sturdiness of it and am happy to have purchased it.

Like many, did you previously use EL’s? I have many many hours logged birding with EL’s and it’s hard to imagine bino’s could get better but I will probably still get a pair of these to try.

Yes. Previously I was holding 8.5 EL's. I really liked them. After using these for a couple months I'm extremely happy with the switch. The feel in the hand is better for me. I went up to 10 power NL's so it's tough for a good comparison optically, for me at least. I find these nice to hand hold, no better or worse than the 8.5 EL. The clarity is amazing, but hand holding I don't think I can tell a difference between the two. The EL is top notch.

Do you find you have any more shake switching from the 8.5x42 EL to the 10x42 NL with the wide FOV for a 10x?

It seems somewhat similar to me. Yes, there is more shakiness but it's very manageable. I went with the 8.5 EL to have a more optically stable binocular in my hands, but moving up to the NL 10's I don't mind the increase in shakiness. The way they feel in the hand makes up for that negative as far as I'm concerned. I just installed The Outdoorsmans stud on these 10 minutes ago, yes eventhough I expressed concern in the video. After installation my nerves are at ease, the mount is solid.
