Wish I’d said Chelsea for the blindfold joke now…
I forgot they existed
Don't worry, am a United fan and you're not wrong there either. Have to watch through your fingers at times
@@Dave_ja_vu My sincerest condolences.
@@Jacques.Smith_ hahahaha, been a rough few years
Woke up at 6am here in the US to watch my Wolves beat Chelsea this morning. They played defense as if they were blindfolded.
7k avg attendance for a 5th tier team? There's been top flight clubs in Italy and Spain that don't get those numbers. The dedication and loyalty of English football fans is simply incredible.
The Oakland Atheltics of MLB had several home games under 5k fans....so 7K for a 5th tier isn't too bad.😅
Tell me what team in italy apart from sassuolo is a rich family club.
@@Ninja-gt3zi the "type" of club it may be is irrelevant. even former Serie A clubs like Spezia, Ascoli and Venezia have under 7k average attendance and they're in Serie B at the moment.
For italian Serie A you are wrong. Empoli is the last one with around 10k avg. In the Serie B (the italian's championship) could be in the top 10.
Remember the story of Tiago Rech (or look it up if you've never read it).
A lone fan who went viral at an away game of Brazilian club Santa Cruz, because he was the only fan in the away section.
He got a minor job at the club based on his enthusiasm for the club and the viral video. He rose to be president of the club.
As president, he led them back to the top flight (from the 3rd tier).

Seems strange now that Oldham, Swindon, Bolton, Bradford, Wimbledon and Charlton were all Premier League clubs.
Back then, would never have dreamt that Brentford or Bournemouth would ever be !
Growing up before the Prem even existed, sometimes when I see the names of the teams in the Championship and Prem I think I'm in the middle of some very strange Football Manager save. Teams that were perennial non-league or League 3-4 teams are now signing players for tens of millions of quid and drawing crowds of 20,000+ each week.
Nobody expected Luton to return. Like a bunch of travellers who turn up in your locality uninvited, they then take years to get rid of.
Barnsley too.
Don't remind me, it's been nothing but depressing being a Charlton fan.
And Luton Town...
Notts County, Carlisle and Oxford Utd and Luton Town were all former First Division clubs pre Premier League and Luton are the first club to go from the top tier to National and back to the top now Premier league of course.
Don’t forget about Leyton Orient and Northampton
@@alexchng3781 Northampton stayed in the League by Virtue of Kidderminster Harriers ground failing to meet league criteria. However correct Leyton Orient spent a season their in the 60s plus Grimsby Town who had a couple of seasons in the top flight in the 20s or 30s.
don’t forget darwen, glossop, northampton town and leyton orient were in the top flight too. Oldham may be the only former premiership club to lose their Football League status but Oxford did it too, and a lot quicker.
@@dev0nSA1nt Darwen and Nelson played league football when there were only 2 divisions but I get the point.
@@CarlTebbutt yeah true but still football league, plus nelson were never first division only darwen. they recorded the joint heaviest ever top-flight defeat: 12-0 at West Brom
This could easily have been Pompey. We are so very lucky to have Pompey supporters as supporters.

Oh definitely
“Oldham is cold” bro missed the golden opportunity of calling them Coldham
Ima call them that from now on 👍
Someone nicknamed it Ice Station Zebra (from the Alistair Maclean novel). I went there as an away supporter once, for a Tuesday evening match in August 1989,just before all that big success of theirs was about to take off under Joe Royle. It may not be Sparta but it certainly was a bit on the spartan side. Interesting place to visit, hilly and high up. My memory may well be playing a few tricks by now and I have this a bit wrong, but I seem to remember there being an inner blue-painted open wood or metal bar fence that bent around the away end and a kind of paddock that looked inviting to sit on if the weather was bearable, with a view out beyond onto what appeared to me to be the Moors.
Some say StuntPegg has never heard a record made later than 1999 and her radio only tunes into Gold. Oldham is cold but the people are warm.
We talking about the same Oldham ? 😂
Well, she used a song from 1980.

@@stuntpeggnieve i might, haha. Be a fascinating day out to spend 24 hours as an oldham fan and find out as much as possible… in 1914/15 they missed out on the first division title to everton by a point- a point which they dropped in a 1-1 draw with the Toffees!! the closest a team called “athletic” has ever come to the top flight championship i think, apart from Charlton not long after.

Scunthorpe and Yeovil have suffered similar collapses over the past 10 years. Modern football is unsustainable
As a child, I bought FIFA 05 for Gameboy and wanted to make the challenge, to win the CL with the worst english team. It was Scunthorpe there, just with a half star. One year later, buying FIFA 06, I was sad that Scunthorpe was not in League Two anymore. But surprise: they were in League One now^^ This was the moment, that Scunthorpe became my favourite englisch team. They made it to the Championsship, now they are playing in the 6th league.
Horrible times for me: my German Club is the MSV Duisburg, one of the founders of the Bundesliga, played international for a lot of seasons, Bayern Munich feared them in the 70s... now they will go down into the 4th league. Last season, there were three english guys sitting just behind me at the stadium, just watching German football. They were impressed to meet a Scunthorpe-fan. One of them said pitifully: "Poor guy, you always have to endure worse football." Its my fate, apparently.
@@msvorgel8933 Love that! It is great that video games have the power to make someone attached to a club they had previously not even heard of! I’m a West Brom fan and have actually seen Scunthorpe play in the flesh many years ago when they were in the Championship in 09-10. Terrible what has happened to them and by the sounds of it Duisburg. Hopefully there are brighter days ahead!
@@msvorgel8933 I did that on Sensible world of Soccer with Scunny, and with a Faroe Island team and won Euro League (now champs league) 19 years in a row lol
Yeovil i don't think so!! They were non league to begin with what happened to them was a dream come true unlike Torquay and Scunthorpe u mean who were well established league teams now playing in the 6th tier and Torquay had 11 points deducted for entering administration I remember when it was an embarrassment to finish below Exeter!!
My one and only visit to Boundary Park was the 0-6 thrashing on 14th February 1990 in the League Cup. Every time I think of that occasion it certainly gives me shivers. Fast forward 34 years and our respective fortunes have totally changed.
You are a wonderful story teller, and able to use humour and your deep knowledge of the game to connect with the clubs and the people. Keep up the great work Nieve!

Nieve, your videos are always such a rollercoaster of emotions, I cry at how clubs like Oldham suffer, I laugh at “out of date pork” jokes and I love you and your approach to the subject! Stay awesome mate x
I remember Brighton being in the bottom position at a similar time to Oldham. All but a goal in the last game saved them from non-league. Since then they have now led the Premier League and qualified for Europe. Best ever season last year.
I don't know what I enjoy more out of your vids, the quality of the content, the humour or the ever consistent quality of the music mix. All top tier stuff.
I do hope that Oldham can make their way out of non league and gradually back to the premier league one day, and another great video Nieve :) you are really doing well with your channel
As a Bournemouth lad, I've always taken bizarre pride in that we have a smaller stadium than OAFC while being in the top flight. I remember when Oldham got promoted to the top tier, which sadly shows my age, and it's sad for me to see the decline. I love the underdogs (been supporting them all my life...) so I was a default Oldham fan whenever they had a match back in the day.
Of course, Luton have the smallest stadium and I love to see them do well too, unless it's against us. Saying that - hope you get better soon Tom Lockyer ! You're the captain of a Premier league team, no matter how small the stadium... Very few players will ever be able to say that, therefore you are a legend.
Kind words, thanks, from Luton.
Great edit! Followed you since early days and may I say how you’ve improved.your insight and knowledge second to none👌🏻 and a genuine lovely person
Excellent video. I liked Oldham in the original Premier League and am sad to see where they have fallen (I'm an Evertonian and fear something similar if they go down). Funny, charming and informed - this is great stuff. (PS, "You'll never sing that" popped me..!)
Best of luck to Oldham and their fans on the way back up!

I was thinking the same! I wouldn't dress that way to Boundary Park in the height of summer.
I’d actually like to go to Oldham to watch a match in the not too distant future. Just several things intrigue me about it - the fact it’s one of the highest stadiums in England, it’s cold, northern, and that Brian Clough said of Oldham ‘the place scares me to death’. And the fact they’re managed by Micky Mellon, which I expected you to mention Nieve

If you do go try to make it an early season game in August or a late season game in May when there's a chance of sunshine otherwise it's a really miserable experience, the whole place has a feeling of depression about it but the people are actually really friendly, a bit rough around the edges but warm hearted, trudging up Rochdale Road back towards town in the cold drizzle isn't fun.

I'm an Evertonian but move to Oldham/Rochdale in 1994. Was in a pub the night before Oldham got relegated from the Prem, Everton survived.
