We need TMs or a Move Tutor or something. I have a number of pokemon that I cannot seem to get decent moves for, like Arcanine. My first Charizard had dragon claw. My first Gyrados was bite/twister. I finally grinded out another Gyrados and Charizard, and I get the same exact flipping move sets that I was unhappy with in the first place. That's 524 more candies down the drain and I'm raging so hard right now. Come on Niantic. Fix your BS!

I'm a rural player and a Pikachu and Squirtle spawned. I wasn't able to catch it because I have no Pokéballs, no Great balls, and no Ultra balls. Looks like I won't be playing Pokémon GO anymore. I don't get any Pokéstops anymore. That's the end of me.
You won't always have a pokestop within a safe walking area just because there are pokemon nearby. There's a cluster of pokemon spawns about 200 meters from my house in a relatively safe part of the neighborhood, but the nearest pokestop is about a kilometer away and NOT a safe walk.
Glad you guys are on the mend. :) Thanks for the pretty sights and time lapses! My boyfriend and I pokemon'd in Vegas in October and our experience was a lot like yours. Poor cell service, drifting in hotels for occasional pokestops, and lotsa lures! Hope you guys had a little bit of fun.
That Starter event has been great I've caught about 30 Bulbasaurs, Squirtles, and Charmanders. I havn't even been trying very hard I just catch them when Im outside. At this rate I should be able to evolve all three once more which is great because my movesets are crap.

Nick is filipino and Cassy is chinese. the lunar new year is very important to Asians. not just for that one day to start the "year" but for all the preparation in the days leading up to the New Year's Eve dinner and the 15 days of celebration afterwards (there are Asians and people of Asian descent who are able to do celebrate and participate in all the traditions for the full month) the months of the lunar calendar is based of the timing from the moon and important for agriculture. whereas the gregorian calendar... while it is based on the sun somewhat, it also has some arbitrary elements such as inserting new months in just to name it after someone (julius and augustus). that's why the original September (7) is now known as the 9th month, October (8) is now 10th, November (9) is 11th, December (10) is 12th in the western calendar. the latin names were there for a reason and then of course there are other calendars and different start dates used around the world based on the culture, but the general population in USA typically thinks in terms of "our" New Year of Jan 1st and "Chinese New Year" but it's celebrated by more countries than just China in Asia because it's a lunar calendar
Davis Cota Long answer: countries that use the solar calendar (most western countries like the USA) have a year that is 365.25 days based on earths rotation around the sun. Because of the fact that the solar calendar isn't exactly 365 days, but instead 365.25, we have to have a leap year every 4 years to even it out. Therefore, our new year is technically a fourth of a day, a half day, or 3/4 a day "off" based on our own calendar, and is only "correct" once every four years. The lunar calendar is 354 days (I think.. Not sure) and based on moons rotation around the earth, however it needs its own adjustments as well. The Chinese use a lunisolar calendar which combines the two to make it more "accurate" and the length of a year can vary within it. However, I use "quotes""" bc both are accurate calendars bc time is relative and is made by humans to track various things like seasons and constellations in sky patterns. The Chinese calendar just happens to track other things than other calendars do. Someone could have defined one year as the time it takes for the earth to go around the sun 1 million times and that'd be their calendar, and it'd be just as accurate as any other, although it wouldn't be officially established by a government. So it doesn't matter how you define it because the earth and the moon keep moving same as they always have regardless of how you define one year.

Hi Nick, Niantic dropped the ball again as here in the uk the event did not start until the next day, so not only did I miss out on a free incubator I also missed out on a whole day of catching starter pokemon, I have been going out every day from christmas to both hatch eggs and catch as many new or candy pokemon plus collect more eggs for hatching the next day of my walk. On the bright side I have a magikarp nest at a park that is really close so fingers crossed I should get a few Gyarados as have three or four with ok IV's waiting to be evolved.
What about UCT which is the same as GMT, also would be great to type a nice reply, seen as how I was addressing the message to Nick and not anyone else, best thing to do is if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. That way you can think what you want and nobody gets upset, now am not upset just disappointed due to the fact that I was addressing Nick with my comment but you had to post a dumb ass reply. The starter event is going super well, I've been playing since the day pokemon go came out and had only managed to ever see one charmander in my area and a few squirtle, but now I have plenty for multiple final evolutions without having to struggle to travel to an area where they're more frequent
it's pretty awesome seeing where I live from another set of eyes (or lenses)... I must admit you found some awesome vantage points and your room at the Linq (i assume) had a perfect view of the High Roller. I work at the Planet Hollywood and often try and get some footage recorded when I leave work... but you sir have found a couple spots that I haven't even thought of shooting from. thanks for a great video, happy new year, and get more rest! and don't feel bad about missing days. you deserve a break. heck, I STILL haven't uploaded my Christmas vlog yet 😫😲😝😂
Im enjoying the event even though im going through pokeballs like crazy trying to catch charmanders, squirtles & bulbasuars. Ive yet to see much of their evolved forms. Only seen 1 charmeleon & seen my first blastoise. He was only 380 cp, threw 1 ultra ball and he popped out & ran off but on bright side, i have 130 bulbasuar candies, 94 squirtle & 83 charmander. Oh and I have a Pichu & Togepi to add with my smoochum now. Glad youre feeling better, continue on getting rest.

I have never seen a wild Omanyte. I feel remarkably lucky just to have gotten one out of a 10k egg and I'm all but certain that I'm going to have to walk with it as my buddy to get the candies I need to evolve it for the Pokedex.
AncalimeB yeah I have a similar park that was a charmander nest before this recent migration. Besides that the other three closest nests are about a 15-30 minute drive for me
Manly beach- I would recommend this highly for magikarp and psyduck/golduck spawns as well as about 5 dratini a day Opera House/Botanic Gardens- Great for any pokemon and 90% of the time has lures going. Rare pokemon everywhere! The Rocks (Near Circular Quay)- HUNDREDS OF EEVEE'S Keep up the great work reversal love your videos and how you really engage with others that you play with. Your thumbnails always draw me in!
Lord Smorc I just go to play Pokemon Go at this mall near me which has Bulbasaur spawning every half hour because of the New Year's event. Other than that most of the days it has Omanyte, Kabuto, Krabby, Goldeen, Staryu etc. spawning because of the fountain Pokestops. (not every minute but like twice a day.)
Tanvi Jain you're lucky to have Omanyte spawning near you haha, I've caught 3 since launch. luckily there's been a nest nearby since the most recent migration so I need to head down there at some point.

Hey Nick, quick Info, you can spin Pokestops even if they are slightly out of range (circle), just try it... you were totally in range of at least one stop all the time (u could spin it even if it is shown out of range)

The Chinese New Year is based on the movement and position of the moon, unlike the solar calendar which is an arbitrary Christo Romano marker. It refers to a power establishment based on the new church and the late Roman Empire that chose the date we have today starting January first as the day that the new year begins. It's probably not accurate that I used the those words in that light but I'm sure someone will give me a bunch of shit for it in the case it was wholly inaccurate.

It's not about battling a Pokemon, he's simply taking that fight as a loss for the 20 odd experience/prestige. When your Pokemon faints if you're out of range of the gym it will error out and you'll be credited for that one loss.
What I understand is, after placing your pokemon in an empty gym, you don't have to stay there longer to level the gym up. After clicking on battle, you can fight while moving away from the gym. Winning that one battle will give you enough prestige to level the gym up so that other teams need to battle twice longer to down it. I see this being useful when you're racing against time to get to the next gym, and if you are the car passenger.

When the babies was announced I used my accumulated incubators (xmas event prep) and hatched the old ones and incubated the new batch. I still need 2 new Pokemon but it worked well for me.
He's got good genes. My dad's side of the family are the same, and I'm pretty lucky in that sense because I have cousins that look 20, but are actually in their 30's, 40's lol

jcwynn new year's day is something we ourselves have made up. a year is generally considered as 365.25 days, but that is just something we decided upon due to the earth's orbit. we could've said that 1 year is 2 earth orbits, but that probably wouldn't have made much sense. the same can be said about the months, the calendar is simply a system that we created to tell the time. there's seconds in a minute, minutes in an hour, hours in a day etc. so is there really a correct new year's day? new year's day is considered to be January 1st, but what if we had decided to have August as the first month, or May? would we accept August 1st as our new year's day? May 1st? nothing makes any calendar more correct or incorrect.

I we t on vacation during this event, and the resort was every good. I was able to farm up enough candies to evolve a charizard, second blastoise, and actually caught 1 of each final evolved starter.

Sorry you were sick in Vegas! I know that area by high roller has a lot of water spawns. I think when I went there back in November it was an Omanyte nest with Poliwags and Slowpokes and Goldeens. That gym trick is pretty golden. Going to try that out!
I'm a rural player. I managed to catch a bunch of Christmas pikachus so I evolved one and could evolve another if I wanted. Now I'm trying to catch a bunch of starters so I can finally get venusaur, charizard, and blastoise. Also I hatched pichu, cleffa, igglybuff, togepi, and snoochum. I'm beyond shocked I've done so well despite being in a small town with hardly any stops.
Hope you're well soon, Nick. I got over 250 candies each for bulbasaur, charmander, squirtle and pikachu just after two days of grinding. Hatched a bunch of little babies including a Togepi. Hatched a Porygon and a Lapras. I am quite happy with my haul.
Quick tip. I work at a big hotel whose check in time is 4pm. With us you can show up as early as 5am and we'll preregister you, taking your payment and info and calling you as soon as your room becomes available (which is usually a little after lunch time) although when those first wave of clean rooms are taken then we won't have anything ready till 4, especially if you want nonsmoking or near the elevator. Also especially you you nick you should as if they have a complimentary late check out. My hotel will give you noon for free and later if you play a lot at the casino we're a part of.

Nick is filipino and Cassy is chinese. the lunar new year is very important to Asians. not just for that one day to start the "year" but for all the preparation in the days leading up to the New Year's Eve dinner and the 15 days of celebration afterwards (there are Asians and people of Asian descent who are able to do celebrate and participate in all the traditions for the full month)
the months of the lunar calendar is based of the timing from the moon and important for agriculture.
whereas the gregorian calendar... while it is based on the sun somewhat, it also has some arbitrary elements such as inserting new months in just to name it after someone (julius and augustus). that's why the original September (7) is now known as the 9th month, October (8) is now 10th, November (9) is 11th, December (10) is 12th in the western calendar. the latin names were there for a reason
and then of course there are other calendars and different start dates used around the world based on the culture, but the general population in USA typically thinks in terms of "our" New Year of Jan 1st and "Chinese New Year" but it's celebrated by more countries than just China in Asia because it's a lunar calendar

Long answer: countries that use the solar calendar (most western countries like the USA) have a year that is 365.25 days based on earths rotation around the sun.
Because of the fact that the solar calendar isn't exactly 365 days, but instead 365.25, we have to have a leap year every 4 years to even it out. Therefore, our new year is technically a fourth of a day, a half day, or 3/4 a day "off" based on our own calendar, and is only "correct" once every four years.
The lunar calendar is 354 days (I think.. Not sure) and based on moons rotation around the earth, however it needs its own adjustments as well.
The Chinese use a lunisolar calendar which combines the two to make it more "accurate" and the length of a year can vary within it.
However, I use "quotes""" bc both are accurate calendars bc time is relative and is made by humans to track various things like seasons and constellations in sky patterns. The Chinese calendar just happens to track other things than other calendars do. Someone could have defined one year as the time it takes for the earth to go around the sun 1 million times and that'd be their calendar, and it'd be just as accurate as any other, although it wouldn't be officially established by a government. So it doesn't matter how you define it because the earth and the moon keep moving same as they always have regardless of how you define one year.

Niantic dropped the ball again as here in the uk the event did not start until the next day, so not only did I miss out on a free incubator I also missed out on a whole day of catching starter pokemon, I have been going out every day from christmas to both hatch eggs and catch as many new or candy pokemon plus collect more eggs for hatching the next day of my walk.
On the bright side I have a magikarp nest at a park that is really close so fingers crossed I should get a few Gyarados as have three or four with ok IV's waiting to be evolved.

The starter event is going super well, I've been playing since the day pokemon go came out and had only managed to ever see one charmander in my area and a few squirtle, but now I have plenty for multiple final evolutions without having to struggle to travel to an area where they're more frequent
it's pretty awesome seeing where I live from another set of eyes (or lenses)... I must admit you found some awesome vantage points and your room at the Linq (i assume) had a perfect view of the High Roller. I work at the Planet Hollywood and often try and get some footage recorded when I leave work... but you sir have found a couple spots that I haven't even thought of shooting from. thanks for a great video, happy new year, and get more rest!

Im enjoying the event even though im going through pokeballs like crazy trying to catch charmanders, squirtles & bulbasuars. Ive yet to see much of their evolved forms. Only seen 1 charmeleon & seen my first blastoise. He was only 380 cp, threw 1 ultra ball and he popped out & ran off but on bright side, i have 130 bulbasuar candies, 94 squirtle & 83 charmander.
Oh and I have a Pichu & Togepi to add with my smoochum now.

I have never seen a wild Omanyte. I feel remarkably lucky just to have gotten one out of a 10k egg and I'm all but certain that I'm going to have to walk with it as my buddy to get the candies I need to evolve it for the Pokedex.

I am currently switching between Kabuto (36 candies) and Omanyte (31). Having to walk 5k for a candy is such a pain.
Manly beach- I would recommend this highly for magikarp and psyduck/golduck spawns as well as about 5 dratini a day

Lord Smorc I just go to play Pokemon Go at this mall near me which has Bulbasaur spawning every half hour because of the New Year's event. Other than that most of the days it has Omanyte, Kabuto, Krabby, Goldeen, Staryu etc. spawning because of the fountain Pokestops. (not every minute but like twice a day.)

It refers to a power establishment based on the new church and the late Roman Empire that chose the date we have today starting January first as the day that the new year begins. It's probably not accurate that I used the those words in that light but I'm sure someone will give me a bunch of shit for it in the case it was wholly inaccurate.

Its about time efficiency. It allows you to power it up by only a little bit so it does not get taken down in one fight.

It's not about battling a Pokemon, he's simply taking that fight as a loss for the 20 odd experience/prestige. When your Pokemon faints if you're out of range of the gym it will error out and you'll be credited for that one loss.
yeah i didnt get this. i dont think the gym gains any prestige if u lose. u have to win.
What I understand is, after placing your pokemon in an empty gym, you don't have to stay there longer to level the gym up. After clicking on battle, you can fight while moving away from the gym. Winning that one battle will give you enough prestige to level the gym up so that other teams need to battle twice longer to down it. I see this being useful when you're racing against time to get to the next gym, and if you are the car passenger.

When the babies was announced I used my accumulated incubators (xmas event prep) and hatched the old ones and incubated the new batch. I still need 2 new Pokemon but it worked well for me.

jcwynn new year's day is something we ourselves have made up. a year is generally considered as 365.25 days, but that is just something we decided upon due to the earth's orbit. we could've said that 1 year is 2 earth orbits, but that probably wouldn't have made much sense. the same can be said about the months, the calendar is simply a system that we created to tell the time. there's seconds in a minute, minutes in an hour, hours in a day etc. so is there really a correct new year's day? new year's day is considered to be January 1st, but what if we had decided to have August as the first month, or May? would we accept August 1st as our new year's day? May 1st? nothing makes any calendar more correct or incorrect.

I we t on vacation during this event, and the resort was every good. I was able to farm up enough candies to evolve a charizard, second blastoise, and actually caught 1 of each final evolved starter.
Never clicked on a video so fast!! I am loving the event I finally evolved Charmander and Bulbasaur I don't ever see any where I live so I'm hoping to get enough candies for Charizard and Venasaur finally!!

Sorry you were sick in Vegas! I know that area by high roller has a lot of water spawns. I think when I went there back in November it was an Omanyte nest with Poliwags and Slowpokes and Goldeens. That gym trick is pretty golden. Going to try that out!
I am loving this event I have all 3 starter 3rd evolutions now and a good few 2nd Gen baby's too
I'm a rural player. I managed to catch a bunch of Christmas pikachus so I evolved one and could evolve another if I wanted. Now I'm trying to catch a bunch of starters so I can finally get venusaur, charizard, and blastoise. Also I hatched pichu, cleffa, igglybuff, togepi, and snoochum. I'm beyond shocked I've done so well despite being in a small town with hardly any stops.
Hope you're well soon, Nick. I got over 250 candies each for bulbasaur, charmander, squirtle and pikachu just after two days of grinding. Hatched a bunch of little babies including a Togepi. Hatched a Porygon and a Lapras. I am quite happy with my haul.
Quick tip. I work at a big hotel whose check in time is 4pm. With us you can show up as early as 5am and we'll preregister you, taking your payment and info and calling you as soon as your room becomes available (which is usually a little after lunch time) although when those first wave of clean rooms are taken then we won't have anything ready till 4, especially if you want nonsmoking or near the elevator. Also especially you you nick you should as if they have a complimentary late check out. My hotel will give you noon for free and later if you play a lot at the casino we're a part of.
