I love the Zeus, but in the Succession Wars era, it's gotta be the ZEU-6T. The Large Laser, PPC, LRM-15 combo puts in work when you need to try and knock a target off their feet.
I think it’s more of a bully than a fighter. It’s a good command mech for a heavy lance, picking on targets smaller than itself at range. I never found it particularly favorable in assault vs. assault engagements. In those situations, having heavy mech mobility helps it escape instead of fight.
Lower level Assault Mech, but one of my favorites. I know the loadouts can vary, but this multi-bracket firer seems to be a great plus to lances as a way to shore up/bolster weaknesses. The 6T is nice in the Pre-Clan Invasion era thanks to the sniping capabilities given via PPC and the med-long range threat via Large Laser and LRM-15 (my fave LRMs). It also has a slightly reduced chance of ammo hit thanks to having no AC5. I have always found a place for this workhorse.
Zues has never been super exciting for me, I don't think it's meant to be used as an assault piece but more of a command mech for heavy and fire lances. It's fast enough to keep up with most heavies, decent long range fire power. It will never stand up to dedicated assaults one on one, but can throw down with most heavies.
One of the best mods you can do on a Zeus is to replace the AC5 with a large laser, another ton of ammo for the LRM and heat sinks. Much more consistent damage.
true, but which would be more of a threat; 4 medium lasers, or an AC/20? ... i'd argue that to most mechs, damage focused onto the same area would be more detrimental than having the damage spread out, but on vehicles, they'd rather take one big hit than multiple smaller ones that could blow out wheels or axles.
@@thoruszwolf4153 definitely. espially if youre like me and have a tendency to "shotgun" your hits all over the place. on the negative side is if you miss; nothing. with 4 mls, you still have 3 more chances to get sone damage.
@@thurin84 Yeah, there are pros and cons to each method, but in many games i've played where I used a ton of medium lasers, I did as you mentioned, shotguned my hits all over my opponent, whereas his fewer AC/20 hits had a more severe effect... hard to say which is definitively better, chance and intimidation may play more of a roll than the weapons effects than we realize
@@thoruszwolf4153 not hard to realize the intimidation effect in the group i play in. pretty much any time an ac/20 boat appears on the field the opponent switches to "kill it! kill it with fire!" mode until its a pile of scrap lol. that does make it a handy way of giving them a rabbit to chase while your other mechs do the damage.
@@thoruszwolf4153 Having four weapons also helps defensively since it gives you the ability to have a weapon get damaged or destroyed while retaining the ability to fight. You lose one or even two ML who cares? You lose that AC20 or the ammo and you're hosed.

Later era Zeus are a top priority for Kill It Now. It's a Temple of Doom Death Boulder.

I can't help but think the Zeus pilot in the pic already screwed up by engaging in Melee instead of sniping a mech from far off.

ZEU-6T exists tho. Alternate firing Large Laser on and off while firing the PPC and LRM15 each turn and you should be fine.
...although replacing the PPC with a Large Laser and 2 heatsinks makes the design heat-neutral. Interesting choice.
It does have a place as long as you have the points
any damage done is good damage.

It's okay as an Assault 'Mech, it just lacks punch and enough ammo to make it effective.
How do you feel now that the newest succession wars era record sheets has one of the medium lasers pointing to the rear?
What?!
well, it looks cool.
That thumbnail.
