    I have a math question. To kill the coronavirus I need : 5 teaspoons of bleach per 1 gallon water. How much bleach would that be for 1 cup or 1 pint of water? For use in a spray bottle. Is there an equation or system to use?

      1 gallon = 16 cups. So 5 table spoons in 1 gallon means 5 tablespoons in 16 cups. make a proportion:
      1/16=x/5
      Cross-multiply to solve:
      16x = 5(1)
      16x = 5
      x = 5/16 or 0.3125
      Use 5/16 of a tablespoon or 0.3125 of a tablespoon.
      Note 1: These calculations work with US gallons/US cups, and also work with imperial gallons/imperial cups. if using metric cups, the ratio is different.
      Note 2: These calculations also work with liquid substances, (since the question implied water and liquid bleach). If measuring dry substances, the ratio is different.

      (If you decide to use a pint rather than a cup, there are 2 cups in a pint, so you are therefore doubling the water and you will thus double the bleach. This gives 5/8 of a tablespoon or 0.625 tablespoons.)
