This looks beautiful. Earlier this year I accidentally ended up making my son an electric guitar, using a salvaged neck and building the body myself so he had something lighter to play (he's only 8). I'm now planning on building a semi-acoustic bass for myself. I'd be glad to get something half as nice as this!
Thanks for sharing. Great job. The main thing that threw me was not giving yourself access to the electronics. I've owned several semi-hollow basses, and I've never seen one that didn't have easy access to electronics, as they often fail or are swapped out. Theoretically, you could always add a cutout and backplate later. Cheers!
I would love for SOMEONE to build an electric bass guitar as close to an upright/double bass as possible (in construction, that is). All hide glue, set-neck, hollow-body construction, maple neck, back and sides, ebony fingerboard (maybe running through the whole body like on Hagstrom Viking basses?) And with both a piezo and magnetic pickups. I bet a bass like that would sound fabulous, especially if it was fretless
Another way to have done the electrics would have been to have the back flat and then routed an access hatch. Semi hollow guitars are really hard to do but that's an excellent result!
There's a video up on my channel where I do a cover of "Cabin Fever - Reignwolf". It's a banger of a song. You can hear me play it there. The acoustics work pretty well for a clean sound, but my favourite sound is running the TV Jones pickups through a distortion for a really growly vintage sound.
quick question where can i buy seafoam green coloring that is for for bass guitars? all the ones i have seen are not fit for the bass i am working on (i am working with paulownia)
Hey man! Glad you like it. Setting up a camera shot and thinking about it while building is still a bit tricky , I noticed when I was about to string the guitar, and flipped it around! No worries, it's on right side up now.
I kinda liked the satin gloss! Because the woodgrain is still faintly visible, I preferred to keep it a bit more matte, instead of going for the high gloss look. I'm glad you liked it!
Great job!... beautiful.. but what if you have to access the electronics or pots at some point for a repair for example...?. How would you tackle that issue?.
I've already ran into a grounding issue. Once the knobs were removed I could access the pots from the sound hole. Getting them back in place is a pain in the ass, but its okay for now.
@@PforProject If you need to take any of the pots out again, tie a piece of thread round the shaft before you pull it out through the F-hole. Then you can use the thread to pull the pot-shaft back into place
you installed the bridge wrong way around, otherwise great build, I'll for sure have to do this as well at some point. Have some design ideas that really are not available from any bigger company
I kept the wires to the pickups extra long so I could still pull the potmeters out in case they need servicing. Furthermore, I checked whether they fit through the sound hole before glueing the top on. Redoing the electronics will be a real hassle, but it's still possible (i already had a badly grounded pot that i managed to fix.)
The overall look of this guitar is very nice. My only comment is the inside of the body would look better with some kind of finish like a flat black or burnt finish and the "F" holes would look better painted rather than unfinished. IMHO. god bless and stay well.
So, I'm confused. The title card shows a left-handed bass. You seem to be left-handed, in the building montage. Yet the bass seems to be right-handed. That's not so odd, in itself; lots of lefties play righty, but the title card orientation threw me off.
Hi! Hope you enjoyed the video besides the confusing perspectives! My phone camera may have flipped the image i used for the thumbnail of this video, without me realising it. I am indeed left-handed, keen eye! I play right handed though. I'm sorry for the weird mirrored thumbnail.
cool build , not fan of green blue or any car style finish on guitars , , i will prefair more natural finish , with grain show throw , but is your bass and if you like it is cool
@@monkas6113 thank you! I knew that while making it, but as the sound holes are rather small, I knew what a pain in the ass it would've been to do it like that. Instead of twine for holding layers together when gluing, some people use a bicycle inner tube cut into strips
I use that, learned it from my dad
Wow - now thats DIY ! - a lot of effort rewarded by beautiful results !
Excellent job and beautiful outcome. You can be very proud of your work.

Normally the warwick bridge would be inlaid a little into the body and the tuners were backward but that doesn’t really matter
Loved it!!
Fantastic job you made a really nice bass,
Dude, that is SOOOO beautiful
¡¡ Great¡¡ ¡¡what a good luthier¡👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Fantastic job!
How did you make the anvil inlay?
What if you have to adjust or repair the electronics? Then you will have to crack it open..
Dude!!! That's a beautiful bass! Great job!
Great job after a LOT of work! I would have colored up the F hole sides though...not sure if you intended that or not.
This video deffo deserves more views, great job

Yeah! I just wanted to make the back arched too. It was a pain in my ass to make both the front and the back arched. Thank you for the compliment
Excellent, what a great job in this bass...comgrats!!!!
Awesome build, you should have posted some shots or playing of it

Pogging, This is Pog
Great job, man!
That came out nice. I especially like the neck. I think traditional wood filler is a better option for painted finishes. I like Reignwolf too.

Beautiful!
One question - why didn't you shield the electronic compartment and did that not create any issues in playing?
I ended up shielding it, just didn't show it in the video.
No issues with noise or anything!
Looks pretty good. Tailpiece is on backwards.

What happens when your pots slip??

Nicely done. Isn't sanding a curved top such a pain ;)
👏 bravo!
i really like that bass bro
Misschien leuk om eens iets mee te doen in De Bassist magazine!

AWESOME JOB MAN!!!! I would like to do this as well some day soon. What computer program did you use to do your mapping/design?
Thanks bud! I use SOLIDWORKS for all my 3d modelling.
Best of luck with your builds.
@@PforProject Excellent! Thanks for the quick response.
im sorry to bring this up but that is a semi hollow body as a hollow body has no center block in it thats why its a hollow body great job tho
Beautiful !
Amazing job bud!
great job :)
Thanks man! You do some awesome stuff on your channel
Everything was great but why did u use so much fret wire ?
You could easily refret another guitar with the waste :D
Absolutely beautiful.
could I use your shape outline? using different p'ups and holes, just want the shape cause I can't draw for the life of me XD
Sure thing man! If you shoot me your email, I'll look up the file

Can you do a bass for me?
No scaff joints 😠! Otherwise very beautiful work.
Dutchie?
How could you tell?????? ;)

Is that a tiny slither of English accent I hear!
Dutch! But lived in London for a brief time, and I used to have a lot of British friends, so I speak with a slight accent.
That is blue,, not green.
Well to be honest thats a semihollow body
Very true!

Also for your next project its wise to first glue the top and the continue with the electronics
Just some friendly tips
