Ah, yes, the whole "score X amount of points in a really, really generously long time". AKA the thing that PLAGUED Ace Combat 04 (And cements the fact it's not my favorite AC game in the series, oh shit). No, fucking seriously, HALF OF THE GODDAMN MISSIONS were these kinds of missions. And out of all of them, I'd say only three are memorable/enjoyable - Shattered Skies, Emancipation, and Siege of Farbanti. The first is a kickass, insane dogfight that has enough enemies to sustain its length, the second has a VERY strict time limit and it's reasonably difficult to get the S rank if you sod around too much, and the Siege of Farbanti is reasonably short and ends with you kicking the Yellow Squad's ass. Aside from that? Most of them are boring dross that ends with me kicking back, levelling my altitude, and flying forward while waiting for the time limit to pass. Feh. At least Ace Combat Zero cut out the waiting bullshit and made it to where if you got the points required, it'd just say "Bollocks to it!" and let you win. Kinda like the other version of this mission, weirdly. What's the point of this mission? Anyhoo, that method is my favorite way to deal with these kinds of missions. Have them give you a massive point goal, a huge map with tons of targets, and let you go nuts. Granted, it made filling the Assault Record really annoying (Fucking Glatisant), but I prefer them to the whole "get your easy S rank and then fly forward for five minutes" mold of AC4's score missions.
I actually quite liked those sandbox missions, though, or at least the concept of them. Sure, the end of Shattered Skies and Whiskey Corridor is a pain where you actually completely run out of targets, like in this mission, but other than that, I like the concept of simply having an open map with shit to blow up. The idle time in those mission was really a flaw of their execution, not the concept. They're pretty much prototypes of what we'd see later in AC6, or even the glorious mission that is ACI's Bunker Shot.
Yeah, like I said, different games would do the concept a lot better. Like Ace Combat Zero, for example. AC4... Didn't. Generally. I actually haven't played Infinity. Free to play games really, really turn me off. I fully admit it's more a personal bias thing.
Without commenting on ACI as a whole - to which the campaign is only a side note, really -, I just can't help but recognize it's version of Bunker Shot as one of the best missions in AC history. I heavily suggest you look it up.

Yeah, but it's really not like that's a hard feat. In any case, I played with the D-Pad on the PSP.
Um...I think you had a top speed of over Mach-4 in this mission...unless the speed is being measured in Km/h.
