I really don't think this is on Rae, at least not directly. Influencers get screwed by companies like this all the time. It's business. Is it anything to cancel a whole person over? Nah, I don't think so. She apologized, let it go.
You learn so much more about people when things go wrong. The criminals are usually prepared for it and the victims are not. Rae doesn’t seem like a scam artist here. She just made a mistake and didn’t see it coming.
blue light from electronic devices doesn't emit enough blue light to damage ur skin, so the product is not needed for gaming or electronic use, it's only needed for high blue light exposure
Good on Valkyrae to ditch this brand after finding out it was a scam. She still should have done some prior research before spending 2 years working on this, but it's her loss.
Holy crap I didn't think they'd cover this topic really well. Nice work theScore eSports. Most channels when it comes to scandals like these just creates it for the content and over hypes it for the drama. But this one got it all covered plus some real lessons at the last part 💯💯
Skincare brands have been claiming blue light protection for a while. Shisheido has a few creams right now on sephora claiming to protect from aging caused from blue light. I think a private label scammed her.
11:30 Yup, check your dermatologist sometimes it's just something is in excess on your food or something on your soap is causing your skin to react... but covering stuff with makeup will only make it worse
Her ego is hurt. She keeps talking about how she prides herself on being a good person and how this mistake paints her in a different light and goes on to lose any accountability she's trying to make up for in the video by highlighting the friends that did and didn't reach out to her for making her own mistake.
Hey Optical Proffesional here as far as research is concerned, the blue light produced by screens is so minor that there is not really any chance that you would be able to feel the effects.
My favourite part about all this is the fact that blue light filters have existed for years on most devices. If you're that worried you don't need some dubious cream with no available research, just pop a filter on.
The way she speaks and explain things is just.. idk.. look, english is my 2nd language, and she makes this news so easy to understand than idk why I'm not suscribed.. Oh, wait a minute.. nvm..
All she did on that stream was play victim... calling out her friends, on stream one by one for no good reason, for asking "are you okay" instead of "omg wheres the research, i know it MUST be real" and that makes them a bad friend? Like is it wrong for friends to care more about the individual than their product? Because I'd of thought caring about the indivduals wellbeing first and foremost was the best thing they could do. She's lost all respect really, not just because of her unproven skincare shit but because of her response. I feel like the REAL bad friend is the one who wants their friends to enter the frontlines of defending a solo venture you took on yourself, they defended her character and thats all they needed to do. What, are they going to defend a product they dont even know for sure isnt a complete scam? Furthermore the company she is working with is a shitty one if they, after finding out that everyday blue light can damage human skin, they refuse to release the research as it can be stolen... Like yeah no shit, it would be stolen but it would help millions of people. Can you even protect research anyways? Like they would always get the credit for the research but wanting to be the only ones to know of the research is selfish, and then expecting people to just trust them? They dont want to help people, they just want to become a bluelight monopoly or something. If you are going to try and make millions off of a "trust me bro" research study, and then go on stream to play victim and throw your friends under the bus for no good reason so that you look more like a victim, you dont deserve respect.
This whole situation sounds really rough, I can see what Valkyrae was trying to go for but the company had other ideas in mind of what they were planning on doing. I didn't watch any of the streams and don't get on social media much so I didn't see how bad it truly got but I hope she's able to move forward and put this behind her.
Yo this was dope! Thanks for explaining this in an unbiased and unhateful way! If there’s ever an internet issue I need to look up in the future I hope you have a video on it!
Thanks for a very informative report. As someone who graduated from University with research experience in a scientific field, less than 2yrs, even a year of "research" is nothing in the grand scheme. My professor worked on his project to determine fetal demise of mice due to early onset cancer found in a specific gene that took nearly a decade before his study was published AFTER I graduated! I was only on the project for a year and there was so much work to be done for conclusive evidence to even be shared. This isn't a handful of trials, this is hundreds upon hundreds.... The sad truth is this company knows and has no credibility backing up their claims other than to "try it" in a public test run that will most likely result in inconclusive results and money in the companies pockets. Anyone write up a biased report within an internal company, but getting the opinions of other companies/labs and researchers able to replicate the same results is what separates true research and development from a flimsy corporate scam.
The second I hear someone say "they were in a dark place" or something of that sort to justify their actions. I immediately scoff because it's just a bad excuse.
Idk if y’all know this but on phones and tablets (probably on computer too, but idk how to do it) you can switch the lighting so that it turns more orange instead of blue. It’s good to use before you go to sleep because it doesn’t effect your eyes as much
The Valkyrae controversy explained: She tried to take advantage of her young viewer base for monetary gain, like every streamer connected to United Talent Agency, and it blew up in her face. End of explanation.

All she had to do was own up to not doing her due diligence on the product make a sincere apology. Instead she tried throwing everyone else involved under the bus to make herself look like a victim
I work in the logistics / freight forwarding industry and what Valkyrae is saying about skincare companies not wanting their research / info on the product public is true. It is difficult to get the chemical makeup of the product (called an MSDS) even when the company has their shipment at the port seized by customs. Typically any other type of company would release this info , but when it has to do with companies in skincare they rarely give up chemicals that make up the product and end up even have the shipment just destroyed by customs / abandoned to keep it confidential.
Ok issues with this video 1st. If Rae refuses to accept the valid criticism then it is going to be repeated till it gets through her thick head and you need to get your head on straight about that. She acknowledges she has no ability to discern science fact from myth and has no idea if the people did some abbott and costello math to get the results they want so they can make money. Yet she doubles down and keeps feeding into the lie telling people i saw it. Its real. They explained it to me. She tries to be the victim and calls out people who did not show her blind loyalty and yet you think that isn't bullying? Imagine using your fame and fortune to try and hurt other people and throw them under the bus for not showing loyalty to you. That is Trump level bs and deserves to be called out. She talks about how she doesn't need the money but even that was a lie because this started 2 years ago before she was owner of 100 thieves and before she inked a youtube contract and before she blew up to the million dollar merch baby she is right now.
I really didn't care about this until she opened her mouth on stream and kept digging her own grave deeper and deeper and just insulting everyone's intelligence. I am so confused when people were talking about it. I had no idea about this. I saw the product on her Instagram story. I thought it was okay, I didn’t mind as I don’t intend to buy it. No person should be hated for unknowingly being scammed by someone else. It’s hard to imagine how she felt. She had no idea about it at first. As Toast have mentioned, she wasn’t calculating or anything, she was just naive about this whole situation. It’s going to be so confusing for someone who doesn’t know much of it. It’s not completely all her team’s fault, but it is also not all her fault. I doubt she was genuinely trying to scam someone. She wasn’t sure about it. Her mistake was not getting more research about the whole thing. Her team is at fault for not telling her about it. And the fact that they didn’t want to release all the info? That’s sus.

And all data can be sketchy. Which is why you want it peer reviewed. I’m addition, not sure if you read any papers produced like this but they literally have sections in their reports about possible bias as well and issues with the data thag could be found later on.
when she started calling out her friends and started DROPPING NAMES I was so disappointed. 100% her close friends we're just being blunt/straightforward with what they thought. Not every friend has to agree with what you do, it was her fault for falling for this
True but everyone always seems to forget that literally a tiny bit later she went on about how she regretted what she said because it’s not her true feelings and shes just angry with herself but nope no one wants to talk about that

@@xXnazmanXx the thing is that off the bat, the whole thing sounds really sketchy. Rae was fooled and didn't extend her research outside of the company
SHe was only calling out the people who checked in on her privately as a close friend.. although dropping their names wasn't good, at least she wasn't calling out names for not defending her/anything negative
@@awesomeblossom5214 the way she named dropped was horrible. Her friends are literally getting attacked for it. It's her fault for streaming while being in an emotional state. She called Jackspecticeye out for him not reaching out to her. She later then goes on to apologise to Jack but the damage has already been done. She called out Daph, although she made jokes about it for content, it still isn't good. She DID call out names for negative things.
She got roped into this, naive and trusting she believe them without looking further into the “research” and trusted their word on it. I’d feel more bad for her but how she discussed her friends rubbed me the wrong way. Don’t blame your friends for not immediately trusting the people you trust

I still think as a businesswoman Valkyrie could have done a better job vetting the project she should have been looking at the website before it went live and definitely should have known that something like this has to be fda approved
I agree.
Sadly she wanted the millions of dollars they were throwing to be the face of the company/product. You have to take the good and the bad with that role. With how much other streamers were apparently making (and saying how much others should be making with their deals) with their streaming deals there’s no way Rae wasn’t offered a multi million dollar contract that’s not in including incentives and bonuses she can make. Um, have you been keeping up with Valk? Most of the talk lately has been about her business adventures and all the stuff she’s taking part of or owning. Just look at all the publicity they are still pushing of her being a owner of 100 thieves.
What this really comes down to us not even company wanting 15 mins of game but valk wanting millions upon millions for 15 mins of publicity for them.

@Martin Gleichauf yes and no. She’s a gamer but she’s putting soaking in all the attention of being a business entrapenure *sp* from the media and her friends and social media. At the end of the day she wasn’t labeled a investor but co-founder of the company and official face and spokesperson for it.
Huge difference between being a investor and the other two things i mentioned. Co founders work with the company and help make decisions. As she said so herself she was working on the project for two years. Plus she herself said she was passionate about the issue.
She absolutely deserves all the negative publicity she’s getting right now. Clearly she wasn’t really a co-founder except by name and pay and didn’t actually care about the issue at hand. Then when she had to do her job as face of the company she bombed it and still refuses to make a sincere apology as well as do research on the issue

Agreed. And yet people don't realize or don't care in this instance is again even the most popular person can not only screw up but still be taken advantage of even after doing their due diligence. Rae's not the first person to be taken advantage of and will hardly be the last content creator to do so.
She's just playing victim card

No mention that the persons she collaborated with to create the brand also happen to be involved in multi level marketing businesses ?
great vid. Bit unexpected for this channel but still reckon its quite an important topic for the younger viewers regardless of gender.

I doubt she was genuinely trying to scam someone. She wasn’t sure about it. Her mistake was not getting more research about the whole thing. Her team is at fault for not telling her about it. And the fact that they didn’t want to release all the info? That’s sus.
Are we really calling this "one of the biggest controversies recently"?
I wouldn't call this that big... Seems more like Valkyrae got scammed to do promo. nothing more.
It's big because of her audience and because of how much it can be abused to take advantage of people.
@@Crusina ofc, but she took the criticism and is trying to figure out how to make it right.
I can’t imagine anyone being able to figure out what to do in a situation like this in just a few days. She needs time and lawyers to fix this unless the people criticizing her, wants her to get sued by the RFLCT company and then push the product anyway... lmao
same thought, I mean no one bought the product yet right?
@@kittykat7990 Who knows... But I sure hope not... At least not until the studies comes out.
It could be harmful for our skin for all that we know.
I'm not a skin care person, so I'll never buy it unless I get a confirmation if it's good to use and actually worth my money.
@@loleo123 You're right it's just downright shady. She really needs a pr team.
Thanks for the clear explanation. I've been offline for a while and came back to this. Your video was well made.
