Albert cheated on lilly by flirting through messages but he never did anything that could potentionally take advantage of his audience like Rae and he got so much hate he had to get off the internet for more than a year and he never recovered like before. Rae has more people defending her right now than people against her. It's not even comparable the amount of hate and she did something objectively worse for more people. Rae was on this project for 2 years. She has a team of people behind her that where on this project for 2 years. She knew this shit was shady and she decided to continue with it.

I think Toast handled this perfectly. Rae is neither in the right or the wrong. On one hand she got taken advantage of and trusted blindly, on the other hand she should have done her due diligence to ensure that the claims of the products she was selling do what they say they do. It's a learning experience and that's all it needs to be.

I love Rae and believe that Rae THINKS the company's research is valid. But I work as a professional researcher, and the entire thing is sketchy. A company should NOT be doing their own research on their own products THEN claiming they have groundbreaking results ONLY understood and explained by them. Rae was pointblank tricked and misled knowing she was an influencer and would probably not think critically about this kind of stuff. It's unfortunate but I just want RAE to understand that it's not her fault and that RFLCT is SUS AF

It is her fault on being naive, she has to know what she is investing on, and she should understand that she is a influencial streamer that children teenagers and some young adults watch and some of them gets really influenced by her, she should also think before saying because that stream talkin about who supported her backfired, when her intention was just to show extra love to who checked on her, people turned this narrative into she being mad for those who didnt talk with her and backfired on her, on her friends, and on her relations, so it is her fault, but she never wanted to scam

Initially, when I saw the valkyrae skin care launch, I was agreed with toast and was critical about what is her team doing and this isn't first time, where I felt she was lacking during a launch. Even during the merch launch, she didn't know about the sizes or some info about the product, and had to find out during the launch. It is her responsibilities to be better. However I also felt some of the hate were way overblown, coming from people who takes pleasure in ppl failing, or just want attention. Its good that toast talk about this, was curious what his stance was.

Glad to see people like you being objective. I have seen other clips whereby people were just blindly supporting her. I genuinely like Rae and think she is a great person. That being said... she is def not smart. I have seen one comment that said "she is kinda dense" and I 100% agree. Like... she has SO MUCH resources. She literally has people around her she could have talked to, to get some feedback, learnt so much more from her end with regards to merch and this skincare line etc and she didnt do her due dillegence? I mean... anyone who did basic due dillegence would know there is little to no basis on bluelight skincare whatever thing. On top of that during her livestream she started to complain and compare which friends reached out first and who publicly supported her? Toast made a really good point how on Twitter and in politics, there’s extremists on either side of the spectrum. We’re not asking you to always be in the middle and compromising but instead have an opinion and try not be so defensive over it. I wish people weren’t so involved and headstrong on having their opinions be validated and heard. Say what you have to say and move on. The world becomes such a hateful place when you allow yourself to care too much about minor matters.
The fact that many people got affected and triggered shows how much they are attached and invested to a public figure that when this public figure gets involved in a drama (wittingly and unwittingly) his/her attached and invested minions got their minds blown af.
Rae needed to learn that scammers target big streamers just as much as small streamers Rae believes cause she made it a certain level that all partnerships and sponsors will always be legit but that's far from the true and the backlash for big streamers is in some ways worse due to the big streamer being the face and getting 99% of the backlash and like it was said before Rae has responsibilities to look into her own sponsors and if the company doesn't even share the information with you or your managers that's no deal no signing no collaboration and she is a victim loss 2 years worth of money time and effort unfortunately but it's a hard very hard lesson to learn especially since now they are in a contract that she can't get out easily

To rae’s defence when this company offered her this project she was the one who actually though about the blue light thing. She said to them “what do you think about the blue light”. She probably did receive all the research presented but when it came out none of those were public and was saying because of legal issues thats why it cant probably be release i mean lets be honest here toast is right for saying its actually responsibility too and her team to look into it and that she was just so naive not think this research can possibly be wrong. I imagine that she pictured this great in her mind and it didnt even cross to her mind that this would happen. She has been gaslit so hard she cant even see it. @@ikahsp9790 When a streamer this big is entering into contractual arrangements, she should be having a lawyer represent her. Her reputation is part of her brand and she should have taken necessary precautions. It was her failure to carry out due diligence about the product and the marketing of it once it was to be distributed that led to this situation. Furthemore, if you have taken even the most basic science class you would know that you cannot rely on one study and common sense would be that this study should be investigated by outside independent sources. She shouldn't have expected the consumers to take her word for it that it was legit and she should have known about what information was going to be released upon launch of the product. She had 2 YEARS and failed to make basic enquiries that her audience made within days of the release.
She was doing this way before she become super famous. So being "big" was definitely not their initial reason for bringing her in. And Rae being gullible as she is, probably didnt think after a year or two, if she should re-evaluate who she works with. She definitely needs more people to get advise from (lawyer and manager who knows what they're doing)

I agree with Toast and have been saying this exact thing from the start and still got called a "stan" on twitter because I wouldn't join in on the hate bandwagon. Rae was/is naive af, and she's extremely impulsive. Does she deserve criticism? Yes. But she was not intentionally scamming her followers. I think she really thought this was going to be a breakthrough product. She's the one who came up with the idea, even though the company originally wanted to do a makeup line. So rather than doing something different, the company took the vision and ran with it leading her to believe this was gonna be big and innovative. I'm curious to know what other products have been made with these people and what other influencers they've worked with. They're so shady. Hopefully this is a lesson learned for Rae to not be so naive and trusting with future business dealings.
she has barely any hate and there's people that have had way more hate than her for doing things not has bad as this one. Albert was attacked so much he got off the internet for a year and he could never come back trully. All of that because he was flirting with another girl while dating Lilly. Cheating is bad but is not a crime or does anything bad to the audinece. Rae on the other had was working from more that 2 years in a scam product, had a whole team behind her that approved of the scam product, she herself was the one that icentivized the idea of the blue light, something that research and common sence clearly show that is a scam, and she tried to launch the product without letting the public having access to the research and not explaining the ingredients that where in the final product and only regreted it when someone called her out on it. She is getting almost no hate for something that could've have potentionally fucked with million of young people, while other people like Albert got competly destroyed for doing something that had nothing to do with the public and it was a completely personal issue. The internet is being way too kind for Rae compared to how the intenet is to other people. But she is a cute woman so she's going to be fine. Also her reaction to the hole deal of starting attacking her friends for not defending her when she never defends her friends when they are in hot water was just hilarious and showed the type of character that she really is. In crisis people show their true colors. Toast is a good example. When toast was in hot waters because people didn't liked some of his jokes she said nothing in his defense. And now toast at least tries to redeem her by saying she is naive and impulsive.

Also it was not her decision to not put the research on the website, it was the company......claiming that if they made their research public, other business could steal that information and claim it as their own research. She wouldn't have been this excited for a project if she knew the company she was working with was sketchy.

Erm...after the streams on Saturday I've got a funny feeling Rae is about to get her ass sued off her. The first stream was a train wreck. Most of the "drama" has been around ppl taking what she said ref friends far to literally or just straight up taking out of context. But she also came down hard on the company and how she felt about them. She's the face of their product line and she straight up said she wants out of the contract. She could easily be in a lot of trouble over that alone. The size of her community might save her as it'd be a PR nightmare dragging her into court.
The 2nd stream she was about to dig through reddit comments but Mizkif intervened and tbf he did a really good job talking her down and convincing her to cut stream and back off from the internet for a bit so hopefully now she's not feeding more clips and LSF it'll die down soon enough.

So... after researching more about the incident, I noticed she said her project was in the works... for TWO YEARS!!! There's SOOOO much to sort through with that fact alone. I have no doubt Toast thinks that project was plain stupid, but he totally chose his words carefully lol.
I agree that we've seen Rae to be naive and impulsive. It's unfortunate no one on her team could've let her know this was a bad decision sooner, but ultimately, she's gonna have to take the loss and hopefully look back on it as a dumb decision and laugh it off.

This is the kind of people that will make you grow and improve yourself. Rae has looked up to Toast from the very beginning and she should definitely listen to him. He's a really logical person, and has this kind of rough way to show you what you don't want to see but it's necessary, I think. He's really objective and understanding of the very different points of view, even if he's showing a very neutral perspective, there's just not correct answer, just a mistake that she made and needs to fix in order to move on because Rae is having a really hard time with not only the internet but a whole legal issue and it is stressful and exhausting and disappointing cuz she worked two years in something that fell apart in two seconds, so even if she fucked up is not the worst thing and shouldn't be condemned like that, as long as she takes responsibility on the issue, which she probably will, but so far it has only been a whole bunch of worthless excuses and pointless explanation.

All this "drama" is kinda stupid. If something, Rae's sin was being naive. She could've made sure those studies were peer reviewed, and that they could be published; however, some people don't understand it isn't on her to publish the studies, it isn't on her to create and to write the web page, it isn't on her to write those ToS. She's under a contract and can't give clarity to some stuff, because she would get sued (and I reckon that ain't fun). People act like she was the one to built the company just to scam people, when in reality she was just a collaborator for the products.
I think its also a problem of her being impulsive in trying to combat the criticism by saying they're wrong first before truly looking into what theyre complaining about and then admitting her fault

She went in without her head clear, and said some things she shouldn't have said, but I do think people just wanted to be angry at her for whatever reason. Her first stream was full of people saying stupid things like "well, you ain't a chemist" like if she made the product herself or something about MLMs, which was weird. At first they treated her like a scammer, and when they realized she wasn't one (the products even weren't out yet), people just started complaining about irrelevant things or just things that she isn't involved with or that she certainly can't talk about.

Her suddenly talking about true friends really solidified it. Even mizkif, the one who reached out to her openly (regardless of his intentions) said that the stream was a bad move and made things worse for her

Now, wheter is fake or real, we can only speculate until the studies are public (which again, it isn't on her) you are all acting like she was just sent a piece of paper labeled "research". You don't need to be a chemist to collaborate with a skin care product company.
And the friends thing, also a stupid thing to built drama on. That's parasocial behaviour. That thing can be talked about behind the scenes. She shouldn't have made those comments, specially about Jacksepticeye, but that doesn't make the situation worse. I mean, if anything we realized that Sykkuno is an angel. But her relationship with her friends is only between them.
We had some answers (so be it worded horribly) about her role in all of this, and that made thd situation a bit better.

There's nothing parasocial about saying that her true friend tirade made things worse because she brought it up out of no where and doubled down on the complaints by trying to put some blame on her friends for "not calling her out sooner". None of her friends even knew what the product was until 2 months ago, and even then they must have assumed that she'd done her job. It's not her friends' job to police everything she does.
What I think happened is that Rae was completely naive about everything for the past two years. When the launch dropped she had no idea what was coming. I think she was embarrassed and slowly started to realize she got fooled. But instead of admitting that (bc of legal reasons or otherwise) she got defensive, called out her friends for not backing her, and tried to defend the lack of reliable research on the subject. I hope she can come to some sort of agreement to get out of this because I think she’s smart enough to realize that she really fucked up and she was bamboozled to believe these “groundbreaking” research claims.
the terrible part i think is how much the company used her name as if they owned her. She's nothing more than their model. If an actor shows in a commercial for a product, that doesn't mean they share the values of that product.

@@bapohmeth the issue isnt about "capability". Yes, Rae and Toast has NO responsibility to each other on anything. They're friends, not family. BUT, Rae name dropped and trash-talked her friends, while toast crieed on stream to do the opposite of "pls dont attack them".
Now i dont hold that Rae stream to heart, cause im sure she regretted everything she said, thus she deleted it. But she still said it. And it probably hurt Jack, poki, and all her friends who watched it and felt like they didnt do enough. I'm sure she's patching things up in private (as she should have in the beginning). On the topic of being in the middle, I think what I personally prefer is being understanding.
To be completely on one/the other side is bad, and to be neutral is also bad in my opinion as you're choosing the cop out answer (unless a topic is damaging to your mental health, even then I wouldn't say you're neutral, you're just not in the drama). It's important to be in the middle where you understand both sides, the reasoning behind why people feel each way, and in the end you choose neither side and aren't neutral in the sense that you don't care.

I am fan of Rae's but that is it. I don't know Rae personally and only know of her character from what I have observed. All any of us can do is assume to know what happen and we know what assuming can lead too. In fact in Rae's first video I think she mentioned that she assume that research was legit and that they would post that research on the website.
So my assumptions are that Rae had very literal involvement or say. Sure like she said she was involved and had say in the packaging, color of the product, and texture, etc. but I believe that is as far as it went. She obviously didn't have any say on how the website was going to be done. I think she was just a name/face for a company to use her to peddle products to a new group of consumers (gamers). New money for the company.
It makes me wonder if she really did have any questions or had any hesitations about the legitimacy of the product would they or did they just fall on deaf ears? In her first stream she mentioned that she did voice her concerns after the products were release about the backlash she was receiving and it made it seem like they (the Rflct company) could have cared less. The voice twitter that Rae had posted about her confusion, etc. was even met with a bizarre reply from one of the Rflct team members.
I don't think though that Rae is relieved of all responsibilities of this backlash. She should have probably been better prepared before signing any contract. It comes across like she was handed the contract with sign here tabs and she just blindly put pen to paper. I don't see her rubbing her hands together like some super villain thinking she was going to make so much money off a gimmick.
I assume she would if she could say that she messed up and is sorry that she signed with the company before consulting with others. Like Toast said it seems that she was impulsive in jumping into this. I don't know if anyone that is Rae viewer remembers this but as the release of this product was nearing she had discussed in one of her streams that her team not the Rflct team but her team had asked her if she wanted a Publicist. She said she didn't want a publicist and she wasn't going to get one and people in her chat were telling her that she should get one. And I was like I can't believe she wouldn't want a publicist and that her team wouldn't have already had that lined up for her but it kind of shows how incompetent she was about this whole process and her team too.
Now the question is where do you go from here? The group of people that are on twitter outraged over this and calling Rae all kinds of names are never going to be satisfied. They will find fault with every move she makes regarding Rflct. What if she can't get out of her contract? Some people are like she should donate her profits to a charity. And what if she does do that publicly. People will say it is to save face and she it will just be a tax write-off. I don't see the products being removed from the market because they are not the first company to create and have products for blue light protection. I don't think they are going to budge in posting their research for the public to review and even if they did people aren't going to accept their research results.
I hope that she can be removed from being associated with the company and get out of the contract but I don't think even if she is removed from the company that she will fully be able to say much regarding the legitimacy of the product and the company.

To me (from what I heard), it just seemed like Rae was a normal person who made a mistake (a very naive mistake). She can't use that as an excuse of course, and should try her best to resolve the issue (if she is contractually obligated to sell/promote it and has no way out then I'm not too sure what to say) and own up to the fact she made a mistake and that her being too trusting is not an excuse.
I only saw Rae as this wholesome creator who just made content and didn't delve too much into working with companies so to me this was a shock but I'm willing to trust she wasn't being malicious (like many channels claim her to be).

This 100%. I'm a fan of Rae, and I don't believe she did this with any malicious intent, but I do feel Rae should be held accountable for her actions at the end of the day. I don't think it's grounds for cancelling her or anything close to affecting her career - I'm sure she understands the gravity of the situation and is willing to make amends with her community. However, I also feel that her haters just found it as an opportunity to tee up on her, and that's why it all spiraled out of control. I love Rae as much as I hate scammers. I kinda think she was another one "scammed". She's not right, because she could have done a lot of things to inform herself about HER product. She may not have been anything but the face but it doesn't excuse her.

On the surface there is mounting evidence that blue light from artificial sources like screens isn't an issue for skin.
