    I believe you are actually supposed to lose the last part of this training. I was totally unable to beat Visas with my bare hands in mine playthrough, she kept striking me down over and over. I got frustrated and tried to use a force power. Kreia stopped the training asking why my character disobeyed her. I answered that it was because rules like hers do not exist in a real fight. After that she ended the training saying that now my character knows as much about battle as she does.
    This seems to be a much better lesson than the one where you just beat you sparring partner no matter what.

      Thanks for the comment! That alternate ending makes it quite an interesting twist to this training scene, and actually matches quite well with Kreia's personality and her tendency to hover around the grey area (i.e., residing somewhere between the light and dark sides) with how she tends to impart knowledge through tangential means and unconventional methods.

    I figured out a couple of solutions on my own:
    1. Equip armour before the battle. Armour works better than Jedi Robes, because you aren't allowed to use force powers anyway.
    2. "Cheat" and use a force power mid-way through the battle - Kriea will stop the battle and make you start over, however she will heal you to full health when she does that.

    I think the best choice for this training is that in the last part to use force powers and explain that in real combat her rules do not apply. I say it's the best because you get 1000 XP at the end, the other options do not give EXP. And based how the XP game mechanic is corelated with the plot, that's why I say it's the best choice.

    • @PaperclipClips
      @PaperclipClips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a great point! It makes sense and like you said, based on its outcome, it's probably one of the most optimal choices to make. During my first playthrough, I was so fixated with how Kreia was going to react if I do something that might anger her that I would not have even considered that as an option, mainly because I was worried she might say something like, "YOU FOOL!!! You can't even follow simple instructions? No wonder you're not a jedi anymore, you're too much of a loose cannon to be of any use to anyone. Come Visas, I'll take you to Malachor V and train you instead to be the next savior of the galaxy," or something wildly similar to whatever it is that my little young brain's imagination might have been conjuring up at the time! 😆

    HOW DO I DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS GAME??!?!?! Altho I didn't play this part since back then the cut content wasn't available. Even tho it felt like a lot was missing it was still the best RPG experience and THE BEST Star Wars game. Too bad EA wanted an MMO and now we can't have KOTOR 3 but have the mmo instead that "continues" the story... my ass

    • @PaperclipClips
      @PaperclipClips  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed. The very first time I played this game was also without any of the cut content. And even then I was struck by the richness of the storytelling and the complexity of the characters, particularly with Kreia's philosophy on avoiding absolutes as not everything is black and white but rather mostly fall within shades of gray.
      It was only when I finally got to the ending part of the game for the very first time was when it became clear to me that the game was incomplete and that the developers somehow never got around to finishing it because the story just abruptly stopped, the credits started rolling, and I just sat there baffled and confused and went, "Wait, wha--?!! That's it? But...why? How???").
      In any case, even then I already thought that the story itself was deep and compelling, even with everything else that what we know now was still missing from it. And so to me, what was "restored" back to it just adds to the total awesomeness of the game even more. :)

  • @PaperclipClips
    @PaperclipClips  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The version you have is probably the latest since it's very easy to beat Visas here in 1.4. One strategy that can possibly help (but in your case may involve starting again from the very beginning unfortunately) would be to avoid leveling up as much as possible long before you get to this point. Then when you get really close to dying, trigger the next level. It gives you max health. Just keep repeating (low health -> level up) until you beat her. Works great with all the other boss fights, too!

      The developers couldn't finish the game in time.
      They were supposed to deliver the completed game by a certain date, but when they realized they were going to miss the deadline, they decided to get rid of tons cut scenes and voice overs that they already have available, because they still haven't finished writing the code yet that was necessary to make use of them in the game. So they just hurriedly put together a rushed ending to the game (not the one that they originally intended to use), and then released whatever they had at that point.
      Originally, what they were planning to do was to continue working on the game even after it started to go on sale, and then later on just issue a patch/software update for everyone to download once the developers finally completed the missing parts of the game, which is why they even included all these unfinished assets (meaning the unused cut scenes, animations, voice overs, and so on) with the game disc in the first place -- it'll allow the game to make use of these "hidden items" once the software has been updated. BUT the game publisher disagreed, and wouldn't authorize the devs to do any more work on it, and so that was that. The project was officially closed, and no further work was done to it.
      Fortunately for us, some players messing around with the game disc managed to discover all of these hidden assets, and with the help of some talented modders, programmers, animators (and even a voice talent on at least one occasion ), etc., they were able to bring these cut content back to life for all of us to enjoy! :D

    I never quite understood when you should do Power attacks vs critical attacks, flurry attacks, and normal atttacks. Does it matter all that much? I just mashed random ones and got through the game cause I was like 12 at the time lol.

    • @PaperclipClips
      @PaperclipClips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol, yeah, as long as it works, that's the important part! I never bothered to read about what each of the different attacks mean either. But I'm guessing Normal Attack means that you get no extra advantage added to your basic attack (whatever you get on your dice roll is what you give to the enemy), but then you also get no penalties against you on defense when it's the enemy's turn to hit you. On the other hand, Power Attacks probably give you a huge boost in addition to what you originaly get on your attack roll, but then you probably also get a huge penalty to your defense when it's the enemy's turn to hit you. Something like that. And so the other attacks like the Crit and the Flurry are probably the same thing (they give some + to attack and - to def), except less bonus given compared to the Power, but you also get less penalties when it's your turn to defend. Anyway, when I used to play this game, I almost always used Flurry, but the only reason was because I really liked the animation associated with the Flurry Attacks. 😊

    • @PaperclipClips

      +määp That's a good point. My guess is that maybe it's a limitation with the game engine? Perhaps character models can't hold a lightsaber on just the left hand even though they can obviously do it when dual-wielding. But even so, maybe Kreia should have said "Because you may not always have your LEFT hand", since we know that the Exile will use his right hand during the training.

    I've seen this in game. how is it cut?

    • @PaperclipClips
      @PaperclipClips  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on which version of the game you're playing. In the original release, you won't be able to see any of this because the folks that created the game ran out of time and didn't get a chance to add this into the game before it went on sale.
      Anyway, one day, some players were curious and decided to snoop around inside the game's code. That's when they accidentally found a lot of these "missing scenes" hidden inside the game itself (in other words, cut-scenes like this one already exist, but the player has no way of seeing them when playing the game because the code needed to trigger them is missing). When people found out about it, some fans of the game decided to do something about it by fixing a lot of the "missing links" and then releasing a new, fan-made version of the game so that future players like us will be able to see these scenes when playing the game. So if this scene showed up while you were playing, then it's most likely because you have one of the later versions of the game that has a lot of the "restored content" added back into it! Hope that helps. :)
