I would prefer an actual Macross game ported or remade for the Switch. Specially when I think about what Harmony Gold did and still does in regards to Macross and its actual creators.
@@the-NightStar Sorry for not responding sooner. I have my alerts off. TH-cam comments aren't known to be the best. Macross is a franchise with lots of different games. Some are of the same genre of this. There are also very different ones. Macross 30 for example is a 3D mech RPG of sorts with anime cutscenes. Also the mobile free-to-play game rhythm game Uta Macross. There is mech stuff in there but the main focus is on idols and the music. There is also the question on supporting Robotech and Harmony Gold in general. Because they used and edited the first Super Dimension Fortress Macross as part of Robotech it if effectively blocking the Macross franchise from releasing in some countries. Harmony Gold also likes to pretend Robotech is entirely their work and not anime they edited together. As far as I can tell none of the money they make goes towards the actual creators in Japan. Nor do they mention who actually did the designs for the characters and mechs. In regards to the first Macross and Robotech Macross Saga I have seen some say they are the same but I have watched both. While the main story is similar there are lot more differences in the details. Characters in particular can be very different. I found it worthwhile watching first Macross just for Lynn Minmay. The Robotech edit I couldn't bring myself to like her. The actual Lynn Minmay is more likeable. She isn't the only one. Roy and Hikaru's actual back story is more touching. Both were stunt pilots with Hikaru's father. It is an important part of Hikaru's character that comes up throughout the series. One was during the hospital when Hikaru gets bad news relating to Roy. The model plane he drops is based on the plane he piloted as part of the stunt team with Roy. There are a lot more differences but I don't remember them all.
@@SomeOrangeCat Originally when Harmony Gold acquired the rights to Super Dimension Fortress Macross it was just to translate it. Why not make Macross DYRL a Switch game? In the early 2000s, the GBA version of Robotech Macross was my replacement handheld gaming version for the PSX Macross Do You Remember Love.
It's a very good HD remaster of the original GBA version and wholeheartedly recommended if you enjoy shooters. As of right now it's on sale for $7 (original price is $10) so you can't go wrong for that price. Hell it's still worth it at it's full price of $10.
The Anime is better. Wish the switch vershion could be 3D and insane amount of missiles to dodge like the anime. Adding Lancer music in there too would make it better.

I'm kinda upset that they couldn't put in alphas or atac Veritechs as extra characters. Would it have killed them to add in Bernard as a secret character!?
It is a VERY flawed shooter. Dont go for this unless you can really deal with hard shooters. The game has 3 robot modes (jet, gerwalk, and fighter), you spend most of your time in gerwalk (the inbetween form) as the others are too fast and slow accordingly. Your hit box is HUGE, and you can get hit multiple times in a row and instantly die. Once you beat a stage and save you keep that many lives, if you have one or zero your screwed, have to delete the save and start over. Sadly this is more for hardcore shumps fan than robotech fans. Id give it a 4/10 for the horrible save feature and terrible hit boxing. If had fixed those two things it would have been and 8/10. sigh, what can you expect from harmony gold...
I pity the fans of Robotech... Specially after seeing ALL the Macross games made on PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP and PSVita that never got and never will get localizations because of US Gold.
Don't support this release, it's a copywrite trap in order for hg to argue the macross rights in Australia when big west already has the macross trademark here. Plus the game is misleading, they claimed new music and original sfx, none of that is in the game AT ALL.
I love Robotech, but this game is really, REALLY AWFUL. GBA looks way better. Also, I just don't get it. Macross has lots of decent videogames, specially on the PS1, being one of them about the Macross Saga in this same shoot'em up style. Robotech deserves just better and not a GBA port with such a low quality
Despite having better resolution, I still prefer PSX Macross Do You remember love. During 200X, having played Macross DYRL on PSX then, I only gotten Robotech Macross Saga GBA game to wean off the excitement. At least both have almost the same storyline at the beginning. At that time GBA is the closest thing I have in terms of game portability. Unlike now where I have both different Macross game titles and different emulators on phone
I own the original gba version and the game is just bland. Very easy too. You basically use gerwalk/guardian mode all the time except for the isometric stages because, although the jet is the fastest & most agile, you lose life if you touch the ground, which the other modes prevent. I’m. It even a hardcore shmup fan but most ppl should be able to force their way thought most stages with minimal effort. The music upgrade is pretty nice tho, the soundtrack is the only good thing to come out of robotech.
I'm really fucking sick of seeing people downplaying and disregarding the importance and greatness of the Robotech brand and the original show. Yeah whine all you want about Harmony Gold has done in RECENT years all you want, but this was honestly one of the greatest early pre-Funimation localization and english dubbing jobs ever done and the fact that the mature storytelling and themes of the series was left mostly intact in the 80's on US television was downright revolutionary. The way the show was carried over and the amount of love and care put into it was nothing short of astounding and DEMANDS the respect it deserves. The bitching and complaining about Harmony Gold doesn't even begin to come into play until after the license became dormant and they continued to stranglehold onto it, until nothing was being done with it anymore. When they WERE handing the license, or at least right up until the Robotech "movie" and Sentinels project began to show weakening cracks in the armor of the license, it was great. It wasn't until AFTER that, that their reputation began to deservedly sour. So the least that people can do is respect ALL the GOOD that came from Robotech BEFORE the licensed went dormant in the US, and quit pretending it wasn't great for it's time. Because it objectively was, despite what modern spoiled weeaboos today wrongly think.
are you serious? Even the end to macross was chopped up to hell to fit it into Southern Cross (or robotech Masters) and that, along with Mospeda (New Generation) were butchered horribly. God knows what they would have done to Orguss if they managed to get that license too... Hell, Voltron did a better job combining 2 divergent shows into 1 series. You want to be a harmony gold apologist, be my guest. If you want to rant like a baby, there's a brick wall over there which is more than happy to listen to all your venting.
I made the mistake of buying this save your $9.99 this game is beyond difficult. I've never felt so underpowered in a mech game. I'll stick with Panzer Paladin & Daemon X Machina...
This has to be one of the worst games ever made. The hitbox on the valkyrie is so huge that any shot fired at you has an 80% chance of hitting you. You also gotta love the homing missiles that are just as likely to fly off into nowhere than hit an actual target. Changing modes on the fly is cool but there's no need to; you could stay in fighter for the entire game ( if you bother playing that long). The developers should have studied scrambled valkyrie or at least their own battlecry, where being in the wrong mode would get you killed. How about those missions that go on and on but then have no boss battle? It just....ends? Who designs a shooter without a boss battle for a level? I guess the music was accurate and the visuals were cute, but even for $12 this game is 100% awful. I will reach for my copy of scrambled valkyrie or battlecry over this failure of a game, any time...
Why, because it’s porting a GBA game, making it better in every way? That complaint makes no sense. If they were making it worse, then people would agree with you.
