Holy crap dude, im an American living in nevada. Our dirt roads are typically washes that get destroyed by rain and our mountain trails are practically like what youre riding on at 13:38 for the entirety of the road and i wouldnt want to try them on my CRF250L much less a KLR. Impressive dude!
Cheers mate, yeah it was rough, the KLR definitely isnt ideal for those sections, both times I have ridden this track I break something on the bike. What an awesome place to live, I absolutely love Nevada! You must have some great spots to ride. I hope you are not affected by the current floods.
@@NotShookADVmost of my riding spots are somewhat ruined but not ruined enough for me on my dual sport, I typically ride near Mt Charleston and if you saw the news you probably know that mt Charleston essentially got destroyed by hurricane Hilary. It practically destroyed everything in both towns up there however they've started the recovery process and are rebuilding the roads and clearing debris. Super proud of our governor for handling this like a true leader. But as for my riding spots they are technically "closed" but they did leave a hole big enough for a dual sport to pass through soooo😂😂 I'm chilling. My house was unaffected by the floods. Just a lot of dirt on the roads. Thanks for the kind words brother! It means a lot. Most of las Vegas is fine but Mt Charleston and pahrump got hit the worst by the hurricane and the floods the other day
Wow I did not know both those towns were wiped by the hurricane! Some brutal stuff. Good on the gov for getting the rebuild cranking quickly. Great to be able to still sneak up on the mountains, even if most of the tracks are probably wrecked, this is another reason why smaller dual sports are great, you can go almost anywhere! Im happy to hear you didnt cop any damage to your home, and that Vegas is intact!
Epic ride mate, you are too modest- only 1 % of KLR riders could/would take their bikes up that. You and Curtis must have doubled Kawasakis thumper sales. Big respect. 😎
Cheers mate. More KLRs is a good thing I think, if more people who can't afford a more expensive adventure bike decide to get out and explore and have fun on the KLR I love that! Thanks for watching.

The camera really does struggle to show how steep, jagged and rocky a lot of the sections are. For sure it is a tricky climb. Would have been a good day to go up yesterday. Looking forward to seeing the video of the T7 tackling it! Your video getting the big KTM up there years ago helped give me confidence that I could get the KLR up. Thanks for watching.
I actually bought some Alpinestars tech7s after this trip! They have been great. You are right, I’m lucky to not have smashed my feet up too bad in these road boots. Cheers I’m glad you liked the video.
That climb is rough as Burke's onion: you are a brave man riding the pig solo up that bombed out ditch of a track. Would love to give that a go on my Himmy 411 but my life would have to depend on it to do it alone.
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed the video. Losing the sleeping bag is tragic! The last time I attempted it I had a similar thing happen, I busted my bag on the way up, and started finding bits of my gear scattered like a crime scene on the way back down, luckily recovered it all.
The tengais are a great looking machine! Yeah I understand that, both times I have been up on the KLR, I have broken stuff. They just don’t have enough ground clearance. How was the track then compared to now?
Too old to ride my Klr up there so rode and pushed my emtb to about the 7km mark and came back down. Them went and rode Blue Ragg on the same day the KTM was happening. Fantastic effort, it's bloody steep.
Heard the bike before I looked at the screen and thought...Gen3 KLR. The sound is so soothing; like anything you put it through is a walk in the park. .
It’s been fun pushing the pig, I think coming straight from light enduro bikes once I get her off-road I’m just wanting to make the thing ride like a 250. It’s surprising that it’s quite capable. I’m glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching.

Mate that's epic. Billy goats took a big chunk of my soul too last time I tried it. I was riding a KTM 390 adventure with stock road tires. I had a KLR 650 and can't imagine doing it on that. No wonder that rear shock keeps bottoming out with balls of steel like that. Subbed.

Thanks for sharing your awesome adventure (;{~
Thanks mate! I appreciate the kind words. Luckily I just managed to scrape up without any issues. You are right, it’s very hard to capture the excitement, adrenaline and adventure of a good hillclimb especially when you are solo! That’s great that you had your climb on film, it’s epic to be able to share those sorts of moments. And I know how you feel, last time I attempted this climb I had a few stacks, ended up ruining my breaks and had to turn around right at near the top. Thanks for watching:)
Love hearing the KLR popping away, just like the DR, they just keep tractoring along. Don't have to worry much about stalling and they seem to grab traction well with that lazy grunt. Great stuff! Subbed and off to watch your other videos now...
I haven’t had the pleasure of riding a DR yet, but they look like a lot of fun, they seem to be way more capable off-road than the KLR, but you are right a similar big thumping put up the climbs, like music to the ears! Thanks a lot for the support.
Man! That's great work. Can I make a suggestion? I have had a few older KLR's and found putting Braided brake lines front and rear a real help. Keep it up.😁
Great suggestion, I have actually wanted to do this for a while, but I cant get my hands on any, none of the companies that do them for the gen3 ship to Aus, and the gen2 ones dont fit, because the new swingarm is longer.
G'day, Maybe Galfer company from the USA. I've used them before. You could go to a brake service in Australia, Pirtech? But you'll be without brake lines for a few days. I think you need to give them your original brake lines for them to make you a set!
Solid effort - and you made getting going again on those slopes look a lot easier than it is. Can’t believe you did shots where you had to go back for the camera too. Nearly died when I saw you were doing it in those boots but each to their own levels of risk I guess 😂
I was really lucky to be able to get going again in those spots, I was surprised myself! Yeah, setting up the camera and tripod was painful, but Id hoped it would help show just how steep the climb actually was, as the gopro seems to flatten it. Even on the SLR I still think its hard to capture truthfully just how damned steep it is. I think proper adventure boots might be my next investment, this pair is the first actual motorbike boot Ive owned, even on my old enduro bikes I would just run workboots. Ive always been a bit casual with gear. Thanks for watching.

Looking forward to your next ride. Also I'd name and shame the soft panniers they look near new and yes a bit over loaded but really!!
I'm always carrying my Sat Phone if I run into any real trouble, but yeah maybe a bit crazy! The pannys are Enduristan, and you are right they are basically brand new, maybe their 4th use, they broke the ride prior to this one, absolutely terrible. I wouldn't touch their gear ever again. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, next ride will be in a couple of days so video should be out late next week. Thanks for watching.
Thanks mate, just managed to wrestle her up there. Yeah the solo bit does add another element, it got the heart going a few times! Thanks for watching.
Cheers mate, I love hearing that it’s inspired you to have a crack at it! The KLR is definitely capable, and the track is tough but very rewarding, it’s a really beautiful up there.
Congrats on the climb. The buzzing, zap noise is harmonic vibrations coming through your bash plate. Foam tape on the sides and the back where it contacts will fix that, I used bar tape as thats what was on hand.
Oh yep, I was thinking it was the crash bars maybe, but this makes total sense now. That’s an easy fix, I actually have some anti vibration tape leftover from my pelican box. Thanks for letting me know, that has saved me hours of sniffing around finding that one! Cheers for watching.
Thanks mate! Im running a Garmin Edge 530 bike computer. They are more specifically designed for Mountain biking/Cycling, but for me I prefer it over other navigation. They don't really work for conventional style navigation where you enter a destination and follow blindly , but are better for showing more tracks and better detail than all the phone navigation apps, so I preset all my waypoints into it from larger maps before I leave on trips if I don't know the area.
Dude, awesome effort getting the mighty KLR up there!! I was meant to tackle it this past weekend but we ran into a few issues which prevented us attempting it, so saving it for next time now 😅
Thanks mate. You guys had a lot to overcome. You tend to always have things pop up in bigger group rides. It looked like you had plenty of tough technical stuff anyway, some of those tracks you went down at the end looked full on. Next time!
Cheers mate! The KLR's are a lot of fun, and a fairly capable bike, definitely worth considering. Im running the Bell Moto3 satin black helmet. Its a really basic & cheap helmet, I just love the look of it. The visor does flap in the wind a bit sometimes, but you can also just clip it off, which I do a bit too.
Exceptional effort mate. Down is hard. Up is tough! Pity your were distracted a little by poorly performing luggage. That Enduristan gear seems to be not very fit for purpose. Give’m heaps and get a refund!
Cheers mate, it was a tricky old climb for sure. Have to agree about the Enduristan stuff, I admit I have torture tested it, but for it to fail like it has, being basically brand new, I would never touch this brand again. It seems for a lot of this adventure branded gear it isn’t suited to hard use at all. Thanks for watching.
Thanks mate! I’m not running any filters on the GoPro at the moment. I do always run them on my drone though. I have been looking at buying the GoPro nd filters recently, just haven’t pulled the trigger on them yet. Have you ever used them with the GoPro?
Oh ok haha! There are a few settings on the GoPro you can slightly tweak, but I think this one shot so nice because of the way the sunlight filters over the side of the mountains at sunrise, so basically got lucky.
On this particular ride I did not go back down, but I have gone down it on the KLR before, I also went down it without any rear brakes, and had no problem. ABS is never an issue for me personally.
You definitely should, it is an epic area for adventure bikes. The royal enfield’s are a great bike, and would be a lot of fun on these tracks, you would really put the thing to the test.
Hey Manfred, I completely agree with your comment and appreciate your perspective on the KLR. When I first got the bike, I would have definitely agreed with you that it's just "crap." While it may be "crap" across the board, it is also just good enough at everything to be extremely versatile and can go almost anywhere comfortably. In the video I posted prior to this, I was able to prove that when I went straight up a hill that a bunch of seemingly competent (adventure bike club) blokes I ran into on extremely expensive and more off-road-focused bikes couldn't even get close to getting up. And I'm completely new to adventure riding! So, for me, the ability to adventure is what makes a truly great adventure bike, and the KLR has certainly delivered on that front. And like you say, the pilot makes the difference; you have to want to get out there and have a proper crack. And with the KLR, you can do it for 1/3rd the price of some of the bikes on the market and go wherever they go. Thanks for watching and cheers!
It’s a Garmin edge 530. It’s a bike computer specifically, not a gps. I mainly use it with my own preset waypoints and to track distances, times etc. Wouldn’t recommend to the average person unless you are familiar with bike computers.
When it looks steep on a gopro, you know it must be absolutely terrifying in real life! Well done.
Spot on, its very hard to show its true horror on the gopro. Thanks for watching.

Next time!
Great vid mate! Makes me want to go and get a KLR!! Also, what helmet you rocking?
Are there Crocs in those waters?
Thankfully no crocs in these waters, the dangerous saltwater crocs start about 2500km north of here.
Epic video mate. Are you running an ND filter on your GoPro? Your footage is beautiful to watch.
Thanks mate!
I’m not running any filters on the GoPro at the moment. I do always run them on my drone though. I have been looking at buying the GoPro nd filters recently, just haven’t pulled the trigger on them yet. Have you ever used them with the GoPro?
@@NotShookADV I don’t own a GoPro! Hahahaha Your footage is just so well done for lighting and colour I figured you must have been using them.
Oh ok haha! There are a few settings on the GoPro you can slightly tweak, but I think this one shot so nice because of the way the sunlight filters over the side of the mountains at sunrise, so basically got lucky.
Can you rename this to Conquering Billy Goat Bluff. No s.....
I know that it is the incorrect spelling, but this is how I say it when I talk about it in person, so that's why I went with the typo in the title.
How did you go back? Same road down the hill? If so how did you go with the ABS?
On this particular ride I did not go back down, but I have gone down it on the KLR before, I also went down it without any rear brakes, and had no problem. ABS is never an issue for me personally.
If any one every doubted the KLR650, they can lay their doubts to rest now
Never doubt the mighty KLR!
nice bike man yew great vid
Cheers legend 🍻
@@NotShookADV I'm keen to push the limits of my royal enfield this year. looks magic down there. keen to hit it up for sure.
You definitely should, it is an epic area for adventure bikes. The royal enfield’s are a great bike, and would be a lot of fun on these tracks, you would really put the thing to the test.
@@NotShookADV sounds like a great video to me 🤙🏼
You have pretty much demonstrated the importance of a good pilot. But damn, these KLRs are just crap! But you made it work!
Thanks for watching and cheers!
what model garmin is that?
It’s a Garmin edge 530.
It’s a bike computer specifically, not a gps.
I mainly use it with my own preset waypoints and to track distances, times etc.
Wouldn’t recommend to the average person unless you are familiar with bike computers.
I'm glad to see someone else riding the KLR on proper terrain! Everyone who says the KLR isn't for difficult off-road are pansies.
The KLRs love the tough stuff!
Thanks for watching.
I feel more confident with a flush, magnetic oil drain plug and a #339 heavy duty skid plate.
I’ve since upgraded to a flush Allen head magnetic drain plug too!
Fold your mirrors in brother
Cheers mate! I actually never do this, and I definitely should.
shes hard going up that track. I had a hard time on my 690. Pinnacles are cool.
Yeah it’s pretty hard work on the bigger bikes isn’t it!
The pinnacles are great, on a clear day it’s a cracker of a view up there.
oh yeah its a mission on a bigger bike ,hard goin on the way down too.
