Another great and informative video. The just for fun part at the end made me laugh. I don't play the Guzheng, but I have always admired it. I think that the first time a person sees a Guzheng being played, they will notice the players nails plucking the strings...and they might have questions about them. This video answers some of those questions. Thanks!
an interesting thing to me is the nails which have the inset divet groove for the finger vs ones that dont, i havent tried the divet ones yet and i feel like the ones with two divets, which i assume is for a better grip, would be tiring and uncomfortable after a while
How do you differentiate between the celluloid and dai mao from visual only? I can tell which is which when I touch them and take a good look at them but some celluloid are made so similar to dai mao in appearances (color, pattern, etc). And also what about guzheng picks from bull/ox horn? Are they any good?
I had to play with my natural nails for a while (because I'm allergic to the adhesive tape). You learn to play with the "top" of your finger since the picks would normally be taped underneath, but playing tremolo and other techniques is doable! Just don't use nail polish or other chemicals on your nails because it significantly weakens them, and try maintaining them in the "almond" shape you jeed for picking.
Hihi I stay in Malaysia and my guzheng teacher teaches to only play with natural nails because she believes that that is the most traditional way of playing :) I’ll definitely say playing guzheng with natural nails is possible! I’ve been playing since 9 and I’m 24 now.

What happens if you use your natural nails?
Some techniques like tremolo would be difficult to execute properly.
@@EasonMusic Thanks for the reply :) I do wonder if in the ancient times they had fake nails to play.
