    One of my favorite Benchmades. Very light, very thin and very slicey but still feels robust. It has a nice roomy handle and the texturing on the scales is great.

    I’ve been carrying a aluminum scaled bailout for nearly 2 years. One of my favorite knives, just because of the weight, plus the aluminum scales had a nice *ting* when you flick it out.
    I hadn’t had an issue with the glass breaker.

    I love my Bailout! The pattern in the scales feels great and grippy in the hand. The price put me off a bit but I took the plunge and I'm so glad I did! It weighs nothing but works like a beast. Right up there with my 940 in feel and utility!

    Long time BM owner here, imo this is the best and most beautiful BM ever. After all the stainless crap, they finally nailed it w the m4 and the parkerised finish! Perfect edc. Perfect size but a 4 1/2 “ blade would be perfect too.

    I've got both versions of the Bailout I carry my m4 Bailout when I'm out and about and the 3v Bailout I use for work since I do Lawncare for a living so it gets pretty dirty but my reason for th 3v at work is the fact the blade was warped out of the box but it's definitely an excellent knife I deleted the pommel on both with a rockscale design backspacer which made them both much more comfortable in hand

    I have both versions - I put Ti scales on the original plastic version but I still prefer the updated model with the AL scales - largely because of the M4 blade. I have two Bugout’s and really enjoy the light weight aesthetic and feel of them and hoping the bailout will feel the same. Another great review Aaron. Thanks for all of your hard work. I’m on the fence with this one. I can get a lot of different knives for the price of that one Benchmade. The M4 steel is awesome, but I’m one of those weirdo’s that enjoys putting my own edge on my knives and maintaining that edge. Your video does have me thinking about this knife though. It would definitely be a ‘grail knife’ for me. I’d probably be afraid of using it to its potential because of its price tag, but it’d be a great knife to add to the collection. Maybe if I see it on sale on one of your hyperlinks. Love your channel, keep up the excellent work.

    I've owned this exact one for about a year. I do really dig it, and it has a lot to offer, but I actually haven't carried it that much. Maybe because I worry about losing it ! haha. I just haven't adjusted to it's lightweight feel, despite it's robustness. I was not impressed with the very small pocket clip - I replaced with a NWLynch matching annodized deep carry clip. Mostly I like having a knife in the stable when I need both toughness AND light weight.

    I’ve had the M4 bailout since December 2021, I’ve loved it since the first day I got it. Great for food prep! If you like this knife, I HIGHLY recommend the upgraded version of the Freek in M4, that’s by far my favorite benchmade. That thing is a tank, Dutch Bushcraft Knives did a test on the benchmade freek in m4 and batoned a brick in half with it and the blade survived. Couldn’t recommend enough! Good video though!

    • @eyeofthetiger4184
      @eyeofthetiger4184 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      G'day Kayra, I have the "standard" Freek and love it too. S30 or 35 is the sweet spot for price to performance and corrosion resistance, ..... for my climate anyway; and quite light weight too with the half steel liners, I assume the M4 version is not full liner either ?
      Anyway, not hard to baton a brick in half with just about anything, even another piece of hard timber will probably do it, if you hit it hard enough, but I guess your point is edge retention as a result, ........... fair enough ....... though we are talk'n folders here. I'm all for hard core testing of fixys, for hard core applications, but I do question whether one really needs high end blade steel, (at a high end price), ....... for a folding pocket knife. You mentioned food prep for example, ....... have you tried an Opinel for a few bucks ?
      Cheers Duke.

    the right size for me. M4 would be great on that one. as far as i remember Carbon and Vanadium Carbides make the steel hard, not tough.

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, this is my first use with the steel. I am going off my experience with this knife and data, I research.
      High Toughness: This steel is extremely tough and scores higher in this area than other popular steel variants. Harder steels are indeed less tough. Thus, you may be wondering why M4 is both tough and hard. This steel is tough because of PM technology and high vanadium and tungsten content. The high level of toughness justifies why it is a tool steel. A CPM- M4 steel knife blade will not chip or break easily while under any lateral force.

      well, you could heat-treat 5Cr to 60HRC, but it would be as brittle as ceramic. special case is 14C28N where the hardness is improved with Nitrogen (the N in the name). Manganese (Mn), Silicon (Si), Nickel (Ni), and Copper (Cu) are added to increase strength of the steels by forming solid solutions in ferrite.
      but key is still the heat treatment. good example is Sanrenmu who get their 8Cr to 59HRC without getting brittle. no chipping but rolling. not many can do that.

    CPM-M4 is not a stainless steel, the shop I work at has a drill spade insert that bores 2" holes through steel. I would not recommend it for EDC use. Especially if you live in a very humid climate like the East or NW Coast.

      That’s why most mfrs DLC or otherwise coat or wash M4, but I have at least a dozen M4 blades including satin finished ones, and as long as you put some light oil on the steel they’re fine. It has amazing edge retention, and excellent toughness, but poor corrosion resistance. I use AG Russell Rust Free on all mine and it works great. A small bottle lasts for years.

  • @G-Man01
    @G-Man01 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Aaron, I've been wanting this one for a while. But now the question is - would you rather have the cerakoted M4 aluminium or the uncoated 3V Shot Show 2023 aluminium? 3V is supposed to have less edge retention than M4 but it's over twice as tough as the M4.... so I'm thinking 3V is 'superior' for me and the hard use of the knife.
    I was even thinking of just getting the cheaper 3V in grivory but since the cheaper grivory 3V actually has the cerakoted blade, but with the savings 'd just pick up some extra aluminium scales. Best of both worlds? Thoughts?

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that the original 3V has soft for that steel, not great edge retention. I don’t know if that has been corrected, but I know the M4 on this model is rocking. It would be this version. Hope that helps.

    I’d much rather have M4 over Magnacut. M4 has far better edge retention and is the exact same toughness as Magnacut. The only thing better about Magnacut is it’s easier to sharpen and has much better corrosion resistance. But I know how to sharpen and don’t let my blade corrode, so I’ll go with M4 every time.

  • @colinburgess9455

    I don’t know where you get the idea that m4 is tougher than 3v. M4 has nearly twice the wear resistance of 3v but the opposite is so for toughness. There not much around that’s tougher than 3v but it’s wear resistance is around s35vn mark, which is fine for my use. 3v may not be classed as stainless but it a lot more stain resistant than m4. I have both steels and I like them both.

    I honestly feel like these are mainly overpriced. Especially the the hogue deka v2 I’m magnacut being able to be found for around $100. The deka smashed both the bugout and bailout in every area. With the addition of Original Goat scales, benchmade gets buried.

      Everything BM IS overpriced, but the Deka FRN is going to run you at least $130-$140 shipped. Then what, another $100 for Goat scales if they have them in stock? So you're over the price of this M4 blade at that point, and this is larger and heavier duty than any lightweight Bugout.
      Magnacut is all the rage now for some reason, but other than it having much better corrosion resistance and being easier to sharpen, M4 has far superior edge retention and the exact same toughness. Both of those are more important to me, since I take care of my blades to make sure they don't corrode, and have diamond hones and know how to use them.
