Oh Alex, you have the same level of enthusiasm as my other half did when I did all the prettifying things in our new kitchen. He really didn't care about the finishing touches. As long as the snack cupboard was full nothing else really mattered 🤣

Your kitchen looks so cosy and inviting ❤ little piece of advice: i think it would be better if you put cookbooks on the lowest shelf because floating shelfs can bend in time with the weight of hard shell books. Also it's recommended in design to put heavier things lower, it would look better in my opinion :) regardless, i'm so happy for you that you achieved your kitchen dreams 🥰

I'm getting very maximalist vibes as opposed to minimalism. What changed?
She has to have stuff in a kitchen , you need bowls, plates etc. Doesn’t seem maximalist to me, anyway minimalist is open to interpretation, depend how you look at it, and what you personally see as minimalist and maximalist 😁 . She is a cook and she does cooking for a living. I personally always felt her message was consider what you’re buying , and where you’re buying it from, and repurpose/recycle 🤷♀️
I don’t care about labels maybe as much as I used to. This is just me. Maximalist, minimalist, I don’t really care 😂
Wow “I don’t really care” I’m kinda shocked with the response..This is a complete 180. Maddie your the reason I got into minimalism, I’ve shared your videos and I bought your book called what? Minimalism(!) Maybe rather than not caring or just dismissing a perfectly reasonable question you can talk about the struggles as non of us are perfect and would appreciate the transparency. You promoted minimalism when not many were, and now you have gone off it the people who followed you may wonder what’s changed. For the time being I will have to unsub. Wish you the best.
@@Mira-oq8ci I think she mean she doesn’t care about what terms you put upon how someone is , as in minimalist or maximalist. She just does herself . It doesn’t mean that she doesn’t care about what she values, or whether she reuses /upcycles etc . I read her book also and I thought it was about thinking about what you use, how you use it and whether you need it. I don’t see anything that shows that she’s not doing it now but she’s just doing it in her way without a label
@@djaneab your right, she meant it more about labels. However, she just laughed and agreed with the other person and called herself the label “maximalist minimalist” how is that even funny. Labels do matter overall how would we describe anything..it’s just funny she only doesn’t care when it’s regarding Veganism and Minimalism. Over consuming is an actually issue and laughing like that it’s just disappointing to see.
Yay I'm so happy for you guys. It's a bluddy dream kitchen right there Madeleine!!!! Like congratulations!!!! I love organizing the kitchen, even though it isn't mine, it's my mom's, but I mean who doesn't like having a child to organize the place you are using the most 😇😂🥰. I really enjoyed the video, I'm still watching but damn girl it's just so satisfying. I'm also a bit of a perfectionist, but because my mood changes so frequently, my space changes and needs to be just right 😂

If you run a wax candle on your drawers they will pull open smoothly. It all looks amazing you should be so proud of yourself xx
Beautiful! Try some beeswax on the drawers, you can buy it in hardware shops in a solid block to rub on, helps them to glide better. Xx

Beautiful! And I'm still concerned about the wines. If you're drinking them right away then it's not as big a deal, though it still may affect flavor. In that case it's only a problem if you mind the flavor change (and you could try storing two bottles of the same wine you buy at the same time, and store one up high and one in a reliably cooler spot, and then try them six months later to see how the flavor is affected). But that location right next to the wood burner and high up in general is an issue because heat rises, and you'll find that in winter when you have the AGA going and the wood burner going, and on hot days if it gets warm in the house, those wine bottles will be in a pretty warm spot being near the ceiling. Again, it may not be much impact if you're drinking them right away and they're not hanging out there very long, but I wouldn't use that spot for any longer term wine storage.

You look lovely unwashed and unbrushed. Maybe leave all the painted doors and drawers open an inch or so until the paint cures. Also the heavy cans should probably not be in the top drawer weighing it down constantly.

I struggle with the balance between having items stored in a hand place so I don’t forget about them, and not having everything all on top of each other. Something has to go at the back of the cupboard. A pop can tray helped with storing the soup cans horizontally. Takes up less prime real estate by being long and narrow.
Love the variations of each piece, makes the kitchen look like it’s been curated over the years, not slapped together with what’s on trend.
I love to watch these reno vlogs while cooking, so cosy. I have been watching you for so long it feels like hanging out with a friend hehe

Beautiful kitchen!!! It looks amazing!! Oh, advice for the drawers, if they keep getting stuck, because you painted the tops there’s not enough friction to open it. Try sanding the top edges of the drawers where it slides open to rough up the surface a little bit, with like very fine sandpaper like 400 grit (that’s American numbers) otherwise the smooth painted surfaces will get stuck. My childhood house was really old and when we painted the drawers and cabinets that’s what my dad did before we put them back and it was so smooth!

Too help with sticking drawers rub some wax on the underside of the cabinet opening for drawer. Will help for sure. Love your kitchen.

Just sand the tops of the drawers with super fine paper they will run smoothly. We have a draw of tins where we can't see the labels easily. I started using a sharpie to write what was in the tins on the top. It was a helpful little thing which made me feel more organised as I worked out our kitchen set up. Loving this video by the way! Love a good tidy and organise. The kitchen is *chefs kiss* stunning! 💜
You micromanage him , but when he asks how to hang the aprons you admonish him and say “just do it!”….he’s too fearful.

I’ve been married for over 44 years and we have only bought three pieces of new furniture,very few new kitchen items and probably zero new decor. Instead,many antiques from family,friends.(and cheaply purchased at thrift shops and yard sales.) We love our home and get a lot of compliments about how warm and cozy and cohesive it is. It’s the only way for me, I hate Hobby Lobby decorated homes,more like a “model” home.😖

If drawers and doors keep being a bit sticky you can run wax (I use a cheap white candle) along the edges. I used it on my windows when they were painted. The kitchen looks really great :)

Just loving the kitchen! It may seem a little old-fashioned but have you considered having your lovely corked spice jars on display with all the pretty earthy spice colours? You may have mentioned it previously but are you going to have some softer (table-lamp) lighting for evening suppers? It was so funny ~ when Alex got back and you were discussing the kitchen, Roxie did a little bit of photo-bombing under the table ~ upside-down with gorgeous little paws paddling the air :). Looking forward to the final kitchen makeover next week...you have worked so hard!
Madeleine! I know you would prefer “sustainable” jars for food storage but IKEA sells these great glass storage jars of different heights that have an apothecary vibe. The tall ones accommodate pastas like spaghetti and linguini and the shorter ones are perfect for rice and lentils and such. They are quite decorative and you could display these sorts of foodstuffs on your counter to provide a kitcheny feel. And, they are dirt cheap. Just sayin’. Love watching the evolution of your lovely kitchen!
