Brilliant vid and song. I loved my childhood in Hatfield. Was born there in 1955 and left in 1968. I was born at 17 Hazeldene Meadows, and in 1963 we moved to 10 Lodge Drive, The Ryde estate. We then moved to St. Albans.
Wow! We moved to Hatfield, on to the new Oxlease estate, when I was 4 years old in 1958. I left around 1973. I went to Broad Oaks school. I recognise almost every image in your video and know almost every place you sing about. I well remember them building the new town centre and pulling half the old town down in the name of progress. Great video. Things that immediately spring to mind... Church's toy shop Gray's garage Station buffet Hatfield park 414 bus oh and a lot more...
I think this is a great way of recording the history of ones town in their own words and lifetime. I wished I had bthought of doing the same for my home town of Hertford.
Was great once, such as WGC was, yet the government screwed it up like everything else. I moved to Australia and haven't been back for over 20 years, rather the memories stay as they are. Great video and thanks.
Just come across your video on TH-cam. I'm the son of Eric Tingey who owned the furniture and hardware store in Hatfield. I went back there four months ago. It was a different place.
Went to uni in Hatfield. Finished last year I barely recognise any of your photos. Pretty much only just some of those shops and what is now the Municipal Court building It's such a dingy town now, looks like it's lost all of its character. Cycle route to St Albans is good though, and the nature reserve where the runway was is nice. Lots of open space, dogs on the weekends. Building The Tunnel and the shutting of De Havilland was the turning point I think
I lived in Welham Green, and went ti St Audreys School in the early 60 Brian Ross was my home room teacher for my last year. Dad worked at DH. and I remember going to there open house every year. and I remember the tank in the park.
Good greif, I remember driving past the Lone Star factory, and if I remember correctly, going South it was on the left hand side and was seen from that old bridge. Ahhhh, happy days eh..!
1.15 is gracemead cottages, where asda is now. I.33 is the wrestlers Pub, still there today. 2.24 is Holliers farm at roe green lane, long gone. 2.44 was the Wesleyan chapel in Batterdale, later tingey's warehouse. hope that helps Nick
Great, we are setting up a historic walk around Old Hatfield at our community picnic on August 18. We might have an open mike night, not sure if you live nearby, but if you wanted to do a live performance of your song, I could enquire. . .
My dad loved this, thank you.
Great to look back at the very old Hatfield. I was born 1970 and grew up in Hatfield.

It's when you leave a home community and return a few years later and see the changes: that's what hits you hard!

@Marie Falmouth I'm sure it's nice if you've never seen the country. But it's a lot of brownfield sites, disused shops, council houses and litter.
@mariefalmouth9302it's was mainly white before Covid. Now it's India meets Nigeria meets Baghdad!

dont mind asking ,are you living in Hatfield?
Actually I miss Hatfield.I studied 4 years in Hatfield poly.
No, Not anymore, I still have a daughter living there though, so go back to visit, it has changed a lot and not for the better, sadly
Why? We used to call Hatfield a country town with only one cinema.
Michael, I came across you film, its great. I am currently working on a project about Old Hatfield, can I link to your film?

It certainly doesn't look like that anymore, Its more like being in a foreign land these days than it is an English town.
I'll tell you where it's gone. To shit.
Filled with junkies nowadays mate. Shame to see how this town turned out :(
Thats why I moved away.
