      I’m an Xfiles fan as well...which is why the last two seasons are so disappointing. They failed to justify the rebirth with great, relevant, consistent storytelling, don’t you think? Tough time to be a fan. I’m hungry for great Xfiles that doesn’t play the leads for caricatures and sell out laughs.

      The real life guy was a German-American writer called Charles Bukowski, who lived in Los Angeles in the 60's and 70's. He was a noted womanizer and wrote a lot about the sleazy underbelly of the city. In 1978 he wrote a novel called Women, which was a semi-autobiography of sorts, and the main character in that is the Closest to Hank in Californication. But David Duchovny is pretty close too.

    It's pronounced Coo-Cullen Mr Duchovny,
    Cuchulain translates directly as "The Hound of Cullan" as the young Setanta killed Cullan's famously ferocious hound with a stone fired from his Hurley at the tender age of seven,and then agreed to stand the duty of the hound until he found another.
    Have a read of the legend if you haven't already, its a good yarn,
    I'd also recommend On Raven's Wing by Morgan Llywelyn as a great retelling of Cuchulains tale, and the whole of David Gemmell's Rigante cycle as an intro to Celtic myth and Legend(although the Rigante are based more on Highland Scots than Irish Legend-but as Billy Connolly famously put it "Scottish people are just Irish folk who said OVER HERE, WE FOUND SOMEWHERE EVEN MORE COLD AND MISERABLE!).

    Sorry is he trying to pronounce Cú Chulainn? Cos it's pronounced koo-hull-yan and he wasn't a king he was the strongest hero in Ulster and killed the High King's prized wolf-hound when he was a teen late to the feast (the dog was on patrol attacked him and he snapped it's neck) and as an act of penance he abandoned his own name Setanta for the dog's and became Cú Chulainn the hound of Ulster. One of my favourite legends growing up especially since my family is from the same area as he supposedly lived (though I'm sure there's a million other places in Ulster that have that claim).

    Neil Gaiman had that exact same idea years ago when he wrote American Gods and The Anansi Boys. Come now, mr Duchovny, give credit where credit is due!

      @rabbitcarrot651 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I’ve read it already (I was sent it to review on my site) the similarities are very, very superficial. They both have God’s in. That’s pretty much it.

    • @magick1969
      @magick1969 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Gaiman didn't originate the concept. There were much older tales of bored gods effing with cultures from around the globe.

    • @L0VSKY
      @L0VSKY 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, Rabbit Carrot. I'm glad. It just rubbed the wrong way with me, a Neil Gaiman fan, that mr Duchovny presented, or seemed to present, the plot as an original idea of his. I'll certainly have a look at the book when it comes out here.

    • @janehill5461
      @janehill5461 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually his book is more directly inspired by a W.B. Yeats play entitled "Only the Jealousy of Emer" which Duchovny pretty explicitly cites as an inspiration in TV and newspaper interviews.

    • @rabbitcarrot651
      @rabbitcarrot651 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      DD never claimed the concept for his own and, as someone above has already stated, Gaiman hardly originated the idea himself! Perhaps instead of jumping to conclusions it might be pertinent to actually read DD’s book and see for yourself that DD’s book is nothing like Gaiman’s and is instead a beautifully written tale worthy of its own praise.

      ya. bad part is theyre not ghosts. well, you could call them that but they arent dead people trapped on earth if thats the definition. if disembodied spirit is your def then yes ghost works fine.

      @MLynn-qc5fj 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Truth Channel: I understand what yr saying and agree with you. But I would also wonder why a recorded voice would claim to say "help". Deception perhaps from a so-called disembodied spirit?
      But then, one would wonder what the purpose was for this deception.

      I didn't think there was any awkward editing. Seemed clear to me the audience was laughing because they expected David to answer that his kid was like 5 years old or something, and instead he said 15. Given that Duchovny doesn't believe in the supernatural, it's strange that he didn't get why the audience laughed at that, but maybe he was just protecting his son's honor, and maybe Stephen was also feigning ignorance to do the same.

    Hmm. Nice concept... That sounds like a Neil Gaiman story. What was that called? Right. American Gods. Not that once an author writes something, it get scratched off a list. There are plenty of comparable stories from prior to Gaiman's take.
