    Loved Hamtramck, grew up there in the 80s and 90s. Fantastic memories.

    Thanks for posting this ! My grandfather Thomas Gomulka (brother to Ted and Wally Gomulka) played accordion and sang on this . They had a band called the Polka Dots that played at many festivals and weddings in Hamtramck.

    My Polish dad used to take me to Hamtramck one Saturday a month for years. We had SO much fun! Miss those days!

    Just visited Hamtramck last week. Times sure have changed since the 70's and 80's when I grew up there but you can still get a good polish meal on Yemans street and a delicious paczki afterwards from the New Palace bakery!

    lol, Kapusta is a traditional Polish dish made of sauerkraut, ham and onions. Some people just call sauerkraut, Kapusta. But yeah, this vid does bring back some good memories. I was 5 when this song was made and this video looks exactly like the Hamtramck I grew up in. :)

    ROFL Kelly!! Haha that's my sister... I thought the Jelly Beans picture was hilarious. BTW you spelled Kapusta correct, and it means Cabbage. Your basic Kupusta dish is sauerkraut and kielbasa.

    Ah pot holes and people walking into traffic. Just like i remember it.
    Actually I had good memories of that town growing up. It went down hill quite a bit. I had a good memory in recent years I went to take my kids to the fire works at the stadium for 4th of July they won a contest. It was a good night

    That's awesome lol. I'm 19 years old - lived and grew up in Hamtramck since age 2, It's really amazing how it was compared to now :D ^_^

      It’s still a great community. The old “Polish Guard” may have died off (and their kids sold the houses/ moved to the stinking suburbs), but I’m not leaving. It’s my home since 1988.

    I love how they show a picture of jelly beans when they say "kapusta." Uh, however you spell it. You know what I mean. ;) This is a great video.

      Unfortunately, those “mainstays” are no longer here, but I still love this little community.

    Was that a Wayne County Sheriff's car or was that a Hamtramck police car @ 0:58?

    • @jarrelljimerson3346
      @jarrelljimerson3346 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What was the address of the old Hamtramck police station @ 1:36?

    • @jage750
      @jage750  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure it was Hamtramck PD handing out tickets. I seem to remember the police department was on Evaline by City Hall.

    • @jarrelljimerson3346
      @jarrelljimerson3346 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I went back to Google and learned that the Hamtramck P.D. is inside the city hall, along with the 31st District Court. 3401 Eveline St. What I really meant was what was the original address of their old police station before it moved into city hall?

    very old video . hamtramck use to be a nice clean polish neighborhood back in the day . now its not worth loosing your life just to drive through !! its so sad what it has become now in 2015 . SO SAD !!!

    • @ralphindigo8139
      @ralphindigo8139 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Le Bern It is not sad. It is still a fun place to be. I love having dinner at Polish Village Cafe or Polandia. I especially like to spend the whole day on Fat Tuesday at Small's Bar. There is nothing like getting drunk on Paczki Bombs, which are small Paczki infused with flavored vodka. It doesn't get any better than this.

      what are you talking about? My dad was born in Hamtramck in 1921. My uncle was a priest at St Florians. Every time I visit Detroit I visit at least one of the Polish restaurants, Under the Eagle or Polonia. No, it's not a Polish town anymore but it's still very safe. The people are of different ethnic origins but they are still very nice. You have to remember, Hamtramck started as a German settlement, turned mostly Polish in the 1920 on. Now it's more hard working people from other parts of the world who are raising children, running businesses and enjoying life.

      I've lived here for three years now. The Yemeni kids actually play outside. Never saw that back home in the suburbs.

      I have lived here since 1988 and lived through many changes Hamtramck has gone through, but it’s still a fabulous place. Always the best music scene, as well.
