Radio kids has been haunting me since I first heard it from when I wake up in the morning to when I fall asleep. Thank you for this beautiful, bittersweet piece of incredible art.
Gotta admit, music like this pisses me off. Because when I listen to songs like this, and especially goshen, the passion behind it is palpable. I scour hundreds of hours of new tracks over the years just to find one that communicates this same kind of powerful, honest emotion without gimmicks or pretense -- it's just raw and laid bare. And whenever I do stumble upon them, on rare occasions, I always discover that the band is either overlooked or underappreciated. It's like someone below commented how it reminded them of The Replacements, another band that wasn't understood and never got the respect they deserved until it was too late. I don't quite hear the similarities musically myself, but the same spirit is definitely there. It's a kind of magic that few people seem to appreciate. I don't understand it and I don't think I ever will, but i'm always glad when I find it. Tim, maybe you would read something like this and think it's silly or over exaggerated, but I hope you understand how important this kind of music means to some of us. And considering the implied meaning in this song, I have a feeling that you do. Music like yours is a canteen of water to people dying of thirst. Play it and make it as long as you can. Those people will always be grateful.
This reminded me of The Psychedelic Furs. A couple of other comments said the Replacements, but more the Furs for me, mostly because of something in his voice.
I find myself coming back to this song a lot. I saw Strand of Oaks play a free show in Cincinnati last year and they played this twice (once during sound check). At one point they let this apparently local musician play a part of their set, and played some of his songs with them. Wish I could say more about him, there was some bleak subject matter but all in all the performances were beyond real, beyond passionate. This dude was going to have a surgery that may have rendered him unable to perform again. Top to bottom this show was priceless and the emotion was high, the intimacy just unique among my concert going experience in general. The vibes that night were positive, just all about the music. Not like some shows at that type of venue where folks just show up to drink. Good times.
I know I'm going to get death threats for this but I thought it was an old Goo Goo Dolls track at first. I mean that as a compliment. But I bet others feel the same but don't want to admit it....and I can't really fault them for that....I'm regretting my memorializing that thought forever in the way of a TH-cam Comment.
Last week (4th of march 2017) they played in Leffinge (Belgium)... it was amazing. We met the band later that night in a bar in Ostend, what a beautiful evening... Still smiling!
Great Video for a Great Song! I was really surprised when I Shazaamed this and read the lyrics. The Awesome music made me think it was going to be about some super serious topic. Then I read the lyrics and I was like Wow! I gotta check these guys out! THANKS MUSIC GODS! & WNKU.
That sweet moment when you realize that the guitar in the background from 4:02 is actually repeating the solo from 3:47. Such an amazing piece of music with many layers to it.
That is a compliment. We all know the Goo Goo Dolls put out some excellent songs, but something about them made it impossible to ever admit I liked some of their stuff. Probably a lot of reasons, from their look and style, to the fans they attracted. But I'm no music snob, if it sounds good, I'll listen, and then just deny it and say they suck!
Would add Jason Molina to songwriters/performers with a direct line to our collective sub-conscious. Check out "Farewell Transmission"...I have worn that song out, but even just mentioning it...I still tear up and get goose bumps.....
Sorry for my ignorance. I didn't realize this is 1 person. I erroneously called it a band, "these guys". I watched the Tiny Desk and saw. This dude is F#cking Talented! This song has a non-pretentious Goo Goo Dolls feel to it. Sorry, but that's what it reminds me of. A non-pop non-over produced version of a Good Goo Goo dolls track.
Sadly Sirius is corporate radio. But seriously, "corporate radio sucks" was an old 97X line, which is undoubtedly the greatest radio station of all time.
What the hell? He puts on an amazing show and his last record was the best of any release that year. Who the hell cares what he looks like? I know he doesn't. Dumbest comment ever.
BEFORE WE LOST CONTROL, says it all .
I really enjoyed this song. I grew up as a radio kid, recording songs on cassette and making mix tapes.

Gives me such a nostalgic ache, but it's a good pain.
@ nebbywoo Well said, I get it.
This song is on repeat for me now.
Bro he looks like Killer Bob from Twin Peaks from that angle and it's blowing my mind up
He looks kinda like me minus a few lb's and the women's lingerie.

Great thoughts man.
REAL MUSIC is DANGEROUS , and that is why it is buried and hard to find.
This reminded me of The Psychedelic Furs. A couple of other comments said the Replacements, but more the Furs for me, mostly because of something in his voice.
kjoc70 hearing The Cure too
And The Alarm!

I love this tune.

When I listen to this song at the right moments, it destroys me.
Kinda reminds me of the Replacements
lspazl I thought it WAS The Replacements when I heard it!
I thought it was them too, I was trying to figure out which album it would have been from, hahaha
Am I the only one willing to admit that they thought this was the Goo Goo Dolls, before Shazaaming it???
It certainly has that sound... and it is so awesome as a result!
lspazl I love the Replacements lol. It's very similar in sound for sure.
br é foda!!!!!
Geez they sound just like Tommy Stinson... Freaking eerie.

The slow pulse of desperation, sped up into rock.

Pretty sure this is The Goo Goo Dolls. (and I like Strand of Oaks... but seriously)
Would add Jason Molina to songwriters/performers with a direct line to our collective sub-conscious. Check out "Farewell Transmission"...I have worn that song out, but even just mentioning it...I still tear up and get goose bumps.....
The main guitar solo that keeps coming up in the song seems to come from Journey Send Her My Love
My Bloody Valentine guitars.

The lead vocalist looks like he's in a metal band
They sound like The Replacements meet The Killers. Maybe they should rename themselves The Replacement Killers?
HEHE.
this totally feels like gaslight anthem
specifically

Kinda like a modern day Bob Seger.

Guitar definitely sounds like My Bloody Valentine
Thank you Sirius XMU ch 35 .Corporate radio sucks.
Sadly Sirius is corporate radio. But seriously, "corporate radio sucks" was an old 97X line, which is undoubtedly the greatest radio station of all time.
Why is this in my recommended
Because it's awesome.
it sounds like a song on the radio... crappy..
Bored
Songs really cool but this dudes not very marketable . He's old and not cute. Too bad again songs very cool
What the hell? He puts on an amazing show and his last record was the best of any release that year. Who the hell cares what he looks like? I know he doesn't. Dumbest comment ever.
frankieinfrance has more talent and creativity in one beard hair than you can even imagine. Go away
Old?! He's 34. That's a young guy. And old are you, dumb fetus?
I don't care who he is or how much talent he has. That was without a doubt one of the dumbest comments I have ever seen on here.
Get off the internet immediately.
