Was here last night and it was epic. I could not figure out how to turn my phone light off so I put it away. Should have consulted a 9 year old but hey that’s ‘life in the big city’ -Tim Dillon quoting Dennis (some guy that used to live with him and his parents).
I was VIP front and it was fun. I wasn’t a fan of them switching off from one band to the next, but still a good show and I recorded as much as I could without distracting anyone. Same with the Tool concerts. I will never understand why he cares so much. 🤷🏻♀️
he's a smart dude, is why shows are so much better when people aren't recording phones break the connection between the artist & the audience and sever the feedback loop that can happen
Could just listen and try to understand his actual words on the topic. It's about the immersion, and having the experience for yourself. If you are on your phone recording the show, you are living in the future, not in the moment. Also when you go to talk about it with your friends, you will have much less to say about your experience, due to being able to just show them on your phone. Hope this explanation helps, but eitherway you don't need to understand his reason, and should respect them anyways. It's his show after all, not yours.

He has explained it several times. You may not agree but nothing wrong with respecting his wishes especially when they charge very reasonable prices.
He wants you to be in the moment and not a zombie staring into a screen.
