    I've been playing DL for a while now and have seen a lot of these situations coming from newer players or just people who don't play competitively at all. There's people who are fixated on "making their own deck/strategy" as if coming up with an entirely original combo line that ends on a good board is something easy to do.
    Also, a bit of personal input regarding the last point: New players, at the very least read your own cards. Meta knowledge is key in higher ranks, but in lower ranks you'll see a huge improvement by understanding what it is that makes your deck work. I keep seeing people running Magician Girls in an otherwise regular DM deck. Those are 2 different playstyles. If you don't read your own cards and just assume there's synergy between them based on their names alone, you'll have a lot of trouble getting to your optimal plays.

    • @cuchutrain
      @cuchutrain  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I can't really blame them, a lot of folks get pulled into this game from the anime. And the anime basically promotes building your own custom deck of one-ofs to be king-of-games. Like aesthetically speaking, you'd assume the magician girls, oracle, and DM all go in the same deck together despite not having much synergy. So I think its just natural to be like that when you start (i was) and then grow out of it slowly.

    I do think Duel Link's biggest problem is the shop. You arent guaranteed to pull a SR or UR even on a ten pull. Which can add up a lot of wasted gems if you have bad luck. I know my friend dropped duel links when he spent 1000 gems and got no UR or SR cards from the new box (Ritual beasts at the time) and he left it for about a year ish until covid came.
    It can be a big detriment when you cant just get the single card you want, and for F2P people it can mean waiting maybe 3 months to get enough gems to try to tackle a box just for one card you need. Master duel has it right, where you are guaranteed at least 1 SR per 10 packs

    • @Lu_Kadjolo
      @Lu_Kadjolo ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yeah, adding the guarantee 10 pulls system would improve my enjoyment of the game a lot, because the worst thing for me is when I'm opening a box is not getting a single 1 Sr after spending 500 gems, it feels like I'm throwing them in the trash...

    • @silverfullbusterd1113
      @silverfullbusterd1113 ปีที่แล้ว

      @kadjolo774 if you got a sr or ur guranteed every 10 pulls no one would pull

    • @havoc697
      @havoc697 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @silverfullbusterd1113 I think it makes the game more accessible if you have three tiers, 50 gems for the 1 pack, 500 for the 10, then maybe 750 for 15 packs but you get a guaranteed ur or Sr. That just means you aren't wasting your resources or your time on pulling nothing but N or R cards.

    I love how unneccesary convoluted the "Ritual Beast spreadsheet" when the highlight of it is "have Winda in hand? Yes? Set it."; people would do ANYTHING to make them LOOK smarter, more intelligent or more anything in this game despite the truth being all but that.
    This reminds me of the old D/D/D spreadsheet that was being sold for 20$ online and one take MBT had looking at it (one of the few good MBT takes): "Woah! We have a 3 card Kepler + Swirl Slime + Lamia combo that ends on Siegfried + Hope Harbinger AND a Swirl Slime + Lamia + Dark Contract with the Gate searching for Kepler combo that ends on the same board..."

    • @cuchutrain
      @cuchutrain  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Still more complex than the DL madolche flowchart, which is literally just a line going straight downward

    • @AgentBlackman
      @AgentBlackman ปีที่แล้ว

      After having played alot of Ritual Beast you don't need a spreadsheet for it and I've never consulted one. Everything skillwise about ritual beast comes down to keeping track of which cards have and haven't been special summoned when you're looping cannahawk for like the third time that turn. I wouldn't call the deck very difficult but it's quite brutal if you mess up and kind of overly complicated from the get go because cannahawk revolves around weird complex yugioh rulings and the naming schemes for the cards is more annoying than anything
      Not sure about people trying to look smart just because they play RB as every RB player i've talked to just likes to show their love for the deck and I can respect that but our experiences obviously differ. After about 50 duels you basically have the deck down since combo paths don't really have any branches, you just loop cannahawk over and over like usual.

      @cuchutrain  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AgentBlackman I have come to learn from you and others that they are easier that one would think. As someone who doesnt play them, I know what they do overall, but i dont know the deck THAT well. Still more complicated than the average deck I play though, thats for sure.

    Man, I'm one of those boomer duelist who feel like the HERO archetype is the answer to every possible thing in the game.
    If my E-HERO cards aren't working, then I use D-HERO while also utilizing Masked, Vision, and Xtra HERO cards. Only one I hardly ever really use is the Evil HERO. Something about that Evil Heroes just seems so limited.

    Rokket is probably the most fun deck I've played so far. Being able to use Link, XYZ, Synchro and Fusion summon in one package is just satisfying (I know Magistus exists, but is too costly for what it does). I'm a huge simp for Revolver/Ryouken Kougami too, so there's that. I've spent months of playing it and I still rely on instinct instead of carefully managing which Rokket to float into at any given time.
    Also, watching my opponent attempting to bounce/spin Magnarokket with Link monster's targeting effect only for them to find what it does the hard way is never not funny to me.

    I 200% agree with this video. Im a pro og player and I only became good because of the things he said in this video. After enough time, you will learn how to win even without meta. The biggest thing about Yugioh in general is card wording. Learn the inner workings of cards and you can win, though not all the time, mainly depends on who and what you are fighting. Just play to win but have fun even if you lose. I suggest trying Cosmo decks for both competition and fun. This deck saw some play in the earlier days of Yugioh, but became less used cause of meta. This will brake the monotony of meta. Just remember to have fun.

    I'm bad at duel links because I don't spend enough money on getting the best decks going. That isn't saying that I've not made mistakes that have cost me games, like missing the timing, or targeting the wrong card, etc. But mostly, I lose because I don't spend enough to get the "meta" decks and instead do f2p, mostly with my old blue eyes deck. It also doesn't help that I'm _still_ trying to get a few of the staple cards 2 months in... I really need to get some book of moon and mystical space typhoon etc.
    Hard to get much past platinum without meta decks.

    I was able to KOG with Blue Eyes my favorite achetype in October 2021. When I started the game a Meta blue eyes required multiple UR and SR cards. The best box to get started on this was Judgement. By the time I spent my newbie gems I had a viable Judgement Dragon and Lightsworn deck that was able to get to Legend. I got bored of playing the same deck over and over and because Blue Eyes required so many cards I quit. By the time 2021 had come they released the structure deck. I played for a bit but still didnt really get back into dueling until October when I realized through Duel Links Meta a Blue Eyes Deck was KOG worthy and I just needed a few more cards. Used literally my last gems and was able to get the cards I needed. The Meta at the time was Triamids, Harpies and Melodius and I was able to KOG through persistence. Here's my advice: The Meta always changes and always will. Never invest in archetypes at first. Always and always invest in essential spells and traps. These cards will slot into any meta deck. Use the gems and the dream tickets for these and try to keep plenty gems handy. When the time comes a meta deck will be released and you can spend you gems on these and easily KOG. Its happened multiple times before. Shiranui which was a mini box and just required good traps, Triamids which also a mini box, Harpies also mini box, DDD which was awesome with the box as well as Structure deck and had the skill you could use with the stromberg castle, dinomist how could we forget you of all cards lol. Mayosenju just required a full box and a levelled up Sylvio. Fluffal was also KOG especially when paired with Supreme Jadens field spell skill. Even right now as I speak the new box has an awesome viable deck. THE META ALWAYS CHANGES. HAVE ESSENTIAL SPELLS AND TRAPS. KEEP YOUR GEMS READY FOR THE NEXT KOG WORTHY BOX. FINAL ADVICE. Know you enemy. Understand how the current Meta decks you will be playing against operate. Early disruption will help you win duels you might normally lose against. I hope this has been helpful to you. Sincerely a duelist who KOG with his fav archetype and didnt spent a single dollar.

    I already knew all of this already but I get crushed anyways. I can often precisely predict my opponent's plays by simply asking myself "What's the perfect thing they're likely have in their deck to stop specifically what I have right now and that I don't have an answer for?" with nothing but the knowledge of what archetype they're playing and my own starting hand. I'm convinced most players in Gold and higher run a cheat engine of some manner.
    They really needed to put Galatea and Dingirsu to Limited 2, but they didn't. Instead they banned Knightmare Mermaid, which half the Orcust decks didn't even run, and put Orcustrated Release at 1, which didn't matter because they only need 1 copy in order to win, so it just means they can't also run the Field Spell.

      also ftp here. I built a timelord speedroid deck within the first couple days of playing Duel Links for the first time. I started playing DL at the tail end of last month, when the Shay Obsidian Event started. I was showered with free tickets and rewards for merely existing and being a "new" player and logging in lots. DL is actually pretty generous with its free card tickets as rewards.
      Beating npcs and advancing stages and earning stuff for pretty much everything you do is nice.
      My rank is in silver but I never cared about ranking up or being the best. I play to have fun, and I have less fun going with the "I wanna win and be the best" mindset. I run deck combos I find on my own via trial and error and experimenting. I stick with whatever feels good and would work out for me in most situations. For me, timelords+speedroids feels great. The offense and defense balance between the two archetypes feels like using a sword and shield in battle

      DR XYZ dragon is better in a speedroid deck full of horse stilts and razorrangs with a few spells like action magic: full turn and riryoku present in deck for ways to end a duel in one powermove utilizing the dragon and riryoku to weaken opposing beatsticks and make you bigger, action magic sealing the deal by doubling battle damage for a turn

  • @Otzkar
    @Otzkar ปีที่แล้ว +19

    My best advice for getting better at duellinks is to not take loses to personal. you are going to face hundreds of different decks on the ladder and just because you lost to dark magician doesnt nescessarily mean you gotta add another cosmic into your deck. sometimes your deck is built optimally and you just have unlucky draws or a bad matchup. you are just not meant to win every game so accepting a loss , not changing the deck is usually optimal even if it feels bad. you shouldnt be cornershooting to win uncomon or niche decks. you should build to beat the majority of decks even if that means losing to the bottom of the barrel sometimes..

  • @Sigmaairav
    @Sigmaairav ปีที่แล้ว +69

    When building a deck, you wanna make sure you do it in a way that reduces the potential for bad draws as much as possible. To ensure every draw and opening hand is something you can act on instead of feeling bricked

    • @matchanavi
      @matchanavi ปีที่แล้ว +3

      To add to this, if you *have* to run Garnets, then you may want to run a deck that's bigger than 20 cards, just gotta make sure that whatever you add can also stall/interrupt plays, or be playable on itself.

    • @Otzkar
      @Otzkar ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree. you should build to be optimal. you cant eliminate bricking entirely so taking a loss in stride is more important. sometimes you just draw knightmare orcust, worldwand and cymbal and theres no deckbuilding you can do to prevent that. instead of focusing on consistency in this or that you should just accept that you can't win every match. obviously you want the highest probable chance to draw a starter but obssesing over deckbuilding is a surefire way to get demotivated and fault yourself for loses that you shouldnt be faulting yourself for. if you want high consistency play a skill. not everything is solvable by "better deck building"
