I have gone to balls since the mid 90's when I was a teenager and let me tell you BALLROOM has changed and has changed for the WORST... My fave categories have always been LABELS, BEST DRESSED, FACE, RUNWAY, HANDS, and BIZARRE and don't get me wrong I LUV THE VOGUING especially TWISTER but as a more masc type dude the ones I mentioned is more my thing. But Labels have become cheap knock offs or easily accessible pieces of cature, Best Dressed has become a costume fest, Face especially BQ Face has become so feminine it's like watching Female Face just with short hair and the occasional beard; I mean these dudes wear more makeup then the females, Runway has morphed into this dramatic strung out drunk strut and for All American the dudes walk like if their the TERMINATOR, Hands has become non existent, and Bizarre is a rarity at the ball... When it comes to VOGUING the majority of these kids only know how to DIP, FLIP, and SPIN, but can't DUCKWALK, CATWALK, TELL A STORY WITH THEIR HANDS, or GIVE A DECENT FLOOR PERFORMANCE, and when it comes to some of these "JUDGES," there is a lot of favoritism and land lack of BASIC VOGUE KNOWLEDGE because these kids get deemed every other week without putting in the work. More than half of these "LEGENDS," I don't even know what they are known for. Grant it I have no problem deeming someone a LEGEND or ICON with only 5 years of BALLROOM honestly I wouldn't care if it happens after 1 year but you better have made a name for yourself that everyone in the WORLD WIDE BALLROOM SCENE KNOWS especially if your deemed ICON under 5 years your @SS better be on the cover of VOGUE and attending the MET BALL... But there is no structure and if some of these TRUE OG ICONS and LEGENDS don't start getting ballroom back to the ESSENCE of what it TRULY is, then ballroom will go EXTINCT. It's a shame cause I really thought the Euro Kidz was what ballroom needed to keep it FRESH and ALIVE but they copy the US Kidz so much down to our PETTY POLITICS that I have lost hope.
