I love an obscure set, I too collect and play the obscure and underplayed tunes if nothing else but to educate folk that there are other tunes out there not just the top 500 !! Great stuff, love it KOKO !
Sam visited my father when I was just getting into NS in early 80's. They were both radio hams at the time and met up for a chat. Sam bought a couple of reissues and boots with him to help start my collection. He handed them over with a smile and said enjoy sonny :). Still remember a few of them to this day. Anderson brothers, Velvet Satins so name a couple. Fabulous gentleman.
I've only just come across this video. Excellent! I used to have some great chats with Sam at Wigan and , in fact , I can remember the night of "the big deal" - it was at the Bedford all nighter, Ste Whittle (RIP Bud) had rented a "trannie" and we all went down. I remember it caused quite a stir that morning and an even bigger one at the Casino niter that night when they were played . My memory is probably playing tricks , but I thought that it was more than the four , mentioned , tracks that they swapped . I think that it was probably 79/80 when this event happened , but I'm happy to be corrected if anybody else can remember it . Brilliant tunes , brilliant memories ! I remember the first night that Sam played at Wigan, the only Richard crowd gave him such a hard time, emptying the dance floor on a couple of records if my memory served me. I think on one tune I was the only one on the dance floor. Loved to hear Sam and the crowd at Cleethorpes as it had a really great musical taste. Wigan was hard to beat for the energy.
I recall a great alldayer in Goole to celebrate Martin's 70th birthday which Maria and Arthur Fenn hosted. Long may his passion and knowledge bring happiness to the soul trippers.
Well that was a breath of fresh air. I admire Jock's brazen honesty.. , but he's delivered it with a twinkle in his eye and avoided fuelling the 'Soul Politics' sectarianism that was rampant in the past. . Most of us are too old - and hopefully wise! - to be dismissive of other peoples choice of Soul. Sounds like you have a healthy approach and Ive got a lot of respect for Soul Sam's tastes. If you get back to using a dance floor , ( Streaming Soul events has its place but will never come close to the real thing ) I'd hope to make it up to one of your events. The music played at Shotts all-nighters was great. Really liked the end spot as well. A full spot of classic ender's. Trends "Not To Old To Cry", Tony Coulton, Big Dee Irwin etc.

Soul Sam at 80years old is a great example to all the other DJs on the scene, a brilliant ear for the music with tons of enthusiasm ,what a guy❤️
