Solid ziricote is said to be comparable tonally to rosewood or ebony, although obviously that may not be the case with a laminate. It's also notorious for needing to be handled and seasoned properly when building with it or else it has a dramatic tendency to split, which is why it has the nickname "Mexican crackwood". Again, the laminate neatly gets around that.

A friend has a zircote tenor and the sound is beautiful, both dark and bright to my ear.... Good, comprehensive review! I got uke, babe...

Very nice KD! Not a big fan of gloss finishes but this looks and sounds sharp.

What kind of passive pickup would you recommend for this ukulele?

Does it have a truss rod ?

We're not sure - but if it does there's no access to adjust it. Best bet is to get in touch with Kala directly :)
