    Thanks for your quality and informative videos. I saw one of your previous videos with the Hest mattress to fit in the AluCab RTT. Just took advantage of 20% off at an outdoor supplier and picked one up. Improving sleep comfort is huge! Enjoy.

    Gday Mate, I have just starting watching your video. One thing I have noticed with your FJ is that the top inside of your rear door isn't painted white like tne roof. I have a 2012 here in Australia and mine is. I wonder if this changed on later models or in different countries. I do have a video about my y favourite unique FJ features where I show this. Great vids thanks for effort you put in. Cheers Richard

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I believe that paint line was changed around 2008 if memory serves. It was only spotted in very early models like mine. Thanks Richard! I will jump over and give you a sub!

      Just too wide and too long for a lot of the stuff I do. I have definitely thought about how nice it would be, but switch backs and tight trails wouldn't be fun and I find myself on a lot of them.

  • @flyfisher530
    @flyfisher530 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice video Tyler! I had to laugh because I did the same thing to the zippers on my Alucab 3.1, went with bright orange so I could see them because as you know that tent is pitch dark when everything is closed up, even in bright sunlight. Love the back support idea, I have been looking for something like that. Skottle is now my go to cooking also....wasnt sure at first, but I am getting better at it!!

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Silent zippers make all the difference! I actually slept last night on the border of Utah in some heavy winds and I only woke up because the whole vehicle was rocking! No cling cling is a win! And yeah, the skottle with the new burner is a sure win! I love it more than ever!

    Awesome vid mate , um.the zipper puller brilliant 👌 um what size did you go with ? on Amazon I see them in various sizes ...

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually ended up with a few of both. Either is a good bet for your tent. I used different sizes between the outside (solid) window and the mesh window so if I am fumbling around in the dark I can tell which is which.

    Did you regear when going to 34’s?

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      Blue is the sweetest! Yes, I have 4.56 gearing which helped a fair bit. I recently got the Overland Tailor Tune and this weekend I did my first long trip through the mountains with it, and I can cruise at 80 mph again without my Fj screaming the whole time. It was so nice to drive with the tune!

    • @jagaro
      @jagaro ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IndependenceOverland Thanks. I was hoping not to have to do a re-gear with 34s. Have you had any issues with the Tune?

    As a fellow FJ owner who’s short on space.. I recently bought the Sea To Summit Watercell X (20liters). Essentially it’s a water bag, super strong and versatile because it folds into nothing yet strong enough to stand on when full! Top quality. Also has straps to hang it on side of my roof rack so it’s also my shower (comes with a shower tap). Amazing product, highly recommend you check it out!

    Just got the DOMETIC faucet (tap here in UK) really well made and as you say a great idea and worth the money for the quality it is.

    Tyler. Wondering what you use for a stove and how you like it? My old Coleman works but is really bulky and cumbersome, looking for something that could be stashed inside the 4Runner easier. Besides my Pocket Rocket MSR

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the Partner Steel stove. I believe mine is the 18" model. I bought it used to save a few bucks, as they are indestructible so used wasn't a concern. I have no affiliate links and no way to make a monetary gain from telling you that. They are simply the best I have come across!

    I like how you threw in the “Go Fast Campers that leak” comment 😂. We’re picking ours up in July. I hope they’ve fixed that issue by the time ours is installed….

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most wedge campers leak from my understanding. They can be sealed up fairly well, but if you go down a dirt road in a place like Moab it finds it’s way in. Spend some time pulling up the plastics on top of your bed and sealing the little holes that everything clips into before you take delivery. Then look up the best sealing kit for your particular tailgate, because a lot of dust gets in through that as well. Alucab avoids this by removing the tailgate on their canopy camper, and you can pay for the installer to do advanced sealing methods where they essentially glue the entire thing down to stop the dust intrusion. My information comes from research I did 3+ years on these products, so perhaps shops have found better solutions since then.

    How has the moisture been with the Hest? My alucab mattress got some mildew recently and it’s got me wanting to change sooner. Added those desiccant packs you suggested but may have to do the aireflow too

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah man that sucks! Moisture hasn’t been any different, my tent seems to be sealed up tight. I do have an anti condensation mat under mine and I open the tent at work fairly often to let it air out. If my HEST ever gets ruined by mildew I might cry!

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      The burner can actually come out and sit on top of a small butane/propane and be used by itself. I always carry a MSR Reactor no matter what stove I’m cooking with though, which is specific for boiling water.

    I died a little inside every time you said GRMS. 🤣 The Hest mattress is the best thing ever if it can fit it in your tent and close. Best RTT mattress. I love sleeping on it. Fenix bike lights, flashlights, and headlamps are awesome. I love that you mentioned the USB C thing. Every rechargeable device now should come with USB C. It's 2023. It would be so nice to only need 1 cable type to charge everything. Nice videos. Hope to see you out on our Colorado trails sometime.
