- This is a walk-around of my custom Overlanding drawer system I built. The project was fun and I learned a lot, and saved a lot of money compared to buying an off-the-shelf system.
I ended up spending around $1,000 in materials and parts, excluding a few tools I had to purchase and wood stain, polyurethane, etc.

you will need the left side of the windbreaker, not for wind though, just to reflect the heat not melting the fridge :-)
Can you move the stove further from the fridge?
I had the same thought…almost immediately upon seeing the set-up!
I'd even thought of taking the original windbreaker off and manufacturing a larger, square version to provide more protection to the fridge...
That's good work sir, Were it me, I'd just move the stove to toward the end of the pull out and screw i in there. Put your canister btween the stove and the fridge.
Brad Williams I could do that. I just wanted to keep using the original gas line. If I put the canister to the left I would have to get a hose. I may do this eventually if it’s a problem, but so far it has not been an issue.
Black anodize made it look really nice. I’m glad he went that route.

Dude, you did a great job on ur rig. The finnish looks really good and eveyone is learning as they go. I personally believe no one gets it right, right out the box. My camping needs aren't ur needs, so our set ups may be similar but very different at the same time. In addition, I value persons such as yourself. For taking the time to post a review on ur own work, regarding the pros and con's, i only have one thing to say. Thank you! for facilitating it for guys like me. 👍👍 With my OCD I'm not certain how many things i would have changed in the process....thx for sharing and enjoy!

So, you have a locking slide on each side of your cooler and stove pullouts and you really only need one locking slide paired with a normal slide on the other side. You could free up two locking slides and swap with a couple of the drawers. Buy one more locking slide for the remaining drawer.

IIRC, the Dometic fridges have threaded inserts on the bottom that you can bolt it down to a platform from underneath.

Nice! Youve inspired me! That left side flap on the stove is going to be necessary to prevent your flame burning your fridge shelf up... I singed mine in a similar way. Great job tho. 👍🏼

you could use a flat bar the length of the slide to keep your draws from auto shutting. Nice job. thanks for sharing.
Good job on the cabinet and drawer system. Id probably install the locking device especially when on an incline / decline. Nonetheless, very detailed and informative. It will help me as I figure out a drawer / fridge system for my Toyota FJC
FJ REY yes, I’ve taken it out now and already figured out that if your on the slightest decline the drawers want to slide shut. Not the end of the world, but kind of annoying. I’m definitely going to swap out the slides with locking ones like on the fridge. Thanks for watching!
Well done. I like the 80/20. I didn't read through the comments, but you could drill a hole in the drawers and insert a dowel pin to keep the drawers from sliding back in.... sweet look.

I really like what you've done, Especially the fridge and stove side. I've got a tacoma and want to build something similar, but with just one 3ft drawer on the other side. With all due respect, I would suggest putting all recovery gear, tools, heavy items in lowest possible storage. Every bit helps center of gravity. Thank you for sharing your setup, I appreciate it.

Through Jack's camera I hear ya about the center of gravity, but I’m on the shorter side and I use the camping gear way more than the recovery gear, so it’d be hard for me to get into the top drawer constantly. I’m going to be moving the tent to a trailer soon so that should help CG a ton.

This opened up a lot of ideas for me, thanks for making this video! I think I would have installed a slide out cutting board in between the bottom and middle drawer to solve The Cutting Board issue. Can't wait to see if there's a part two of this video.

What's your reasoning for a bigger fridge? I'm just a single guy, so I'm just curious if it's because you needed the extra room for when your family joins you or if you thought you needed the extra room for just yourself.

This is awesome. Great job! I was a little surprised by the price tag at the end, but I know that 8020 stuff is expensive. The way you did the slides on the right hand side is really nice.

Nice setup. I have that same fridge. There are threaded holes on the bottom of it. You can screw it to the tray from the bottom just like you did with the stove.
I I thanks. Another viewer told me the same thing. I’m not sure I will bolt it down though. It’s pretty easy to remove now if I want to take it out.

Nice work . Sure someone said it but my experience is some painters tape before you run your caulk bead , then pulling it before it cure will give you a nice sharp caulk edge

i am gonna make something similar to my prado 150 land cruiser
I've watched your video a couple times now and perhaps you put the stove on that side because your'e mounting the propane tank on the spare, or with a tailgate table and the slideout, there isnt a lot of room to get between and cook. That's what I'm wrestling with now- i love my DIY tailgate table. I need drawers and a fridge slideout tho, so I will switch my fridge to the drivers side once i finalize my design. You sold me the Partner stove a month ago, and it was SO worth every penny! I even put your sticker on my propane tank above the spare:) Great video, I would love to see how you did the combo locks on the drawer faces...

The reason I put my stove on that side was because at the time I was running a driver’s side 270° awning. I thought it would be awkward to walk around the slide if it were on the other side.

Nicely done fella! The thing I dislike about my Jeep, is that the rear door opens towards the curb...it really bothers me. If you're in England, Japan, Australia, it makes sense but if the door opened towards the street (left-hand hinge), you could access the space from curb-side better. I was parallel parked once and had the door swung all the way out so we could load groceries, there was someone in front, and while I was stowing some gear in the front seat, another car parked very close to my rear and went in the shops. I had to wait 45 minutes for one of these vehicles to move so I could shut the rear door, and leave. I'm building a slide-out cabinet kitchen for my DIY overland trailer, good job again!!!

Looks good but lower the fridge to your grill to open easier and use your tailgate for your grill. They also have slideouts built in on most. Then with fridge lower, make the top a slide out for spices or condiments. Just store the grill up top.
GolfXXX I didn’t want to have to pack and unpack the stove. Also if I used the tailgate for the grill I could t slide the fridge out.
I’ve heard lots of different opinions on how it could be laid out. It’s fun hearing everyone’s take on it.

The Dometic CFX fridges have four threaded inserts on the bottom for mounting. Just drill four holes up from the bottom and use some flush mount bolts. Voila, hidden mounting for the fridge. You can find the dimensions on the Dometic website.

Do you feel it’s necessary to have 2 locking slides or would one on the left or right side suffice?

Not sure but it looks to me that there may be about 1/2" of space under your camp stove slid eout. Add a 1" X 1/8" aluminum bar on the bottom edge of each side and cut a 1/2" slide out additional table space. I like your set up for the limited space you have. Nice job!

Great build man. I would put the heaviest stuff in the lowest drawer to put less stress one the frame of the cabinet structure
Gevorg Nazaryan thanks. People have made this comment before, and I understand why. But the camping stuff is what I use the most. I’m a shorter guy, so seeing and reaching into the top drawer isn’t very comfortable and it would be a pain in the ass to do that at camp all night long.

Great work mate! It sounds like you don't have a second battery, how do you run the fridge without draining your starter battery? Cheers!
Careful that wind shield you pulled back. Once you start cooking and the flame is on you could melt the fridge plastic next to it. Keep the heat shield on. Also not sure if your fridge releases heat through that grille and if it does the more cooler the area is it’s releasing heat to the better your fridge works. Basic refrigeration knowledge. Keep the heat shield up buddy. Nice setup 😁

Do Something Outdoors you know, I didn’t check at all. With it fully loaded I’m sure it did a small bit but I’d be willing to bet it’s not more than a half inch if any.
If I ever unload it and remove the cabinet I’ll be sure and check.

I really appreciate your video! Considering using elements of your set up in my 5th gen 4Runner. One question I haven’t noticed in the comments (maybe it’s there, but I didn’t quickly find it): is there a need to secure the frame of the cabinetry to the floor of your vehicle?
You mentioned weight of the whole unit being hefty, but if it isn’t secured, I wonder if it shuffles around on bumpy trails? Companies like Goose-Gear make a baseplate that all their storage systems must mount to. Maybe that’s only Goose-Gear, or maybe it’s only for T4R. I just want to make sure all my stuff stays where I put it and that my storage systems stay where I put them!

Yes, it is secured to the tie down points built into the floor of the Jeep. You definitely want to secure it, but only to prevent it shifting around on bumpy trails, but also in the event of a roll over or crash. Everything needs to be secured inside the vehicle if at all possible.

Are your measurements right on the 80/20?
Reason being, I have 2018Jeep JL and the measurements i have are 39" for tje width and then there is a difference in the depth due to the back seats from the top to the bottom.
Rick Barmore yes. I just went out to the Jeep and put a tape on it. I have a JK, not a JL. Maybe the dimensions in the rear changed in those? It’s a tight fit but it does fit.

You probably put the fridge on that side because when you raise it up it won’t fit on the drivers side. The tail gate latch is in the way
5djc I think it was because of it was on the other side, I would be between the tailgate and the stove trying to cook in a confined space.
Great build. Quick question... I downloaded the SketchUp file, but when I tried to open it, I learned that it was created in a later version (v.18). When I went to update my version, I learned that Sketchup has completely changed their product line, and no longer supports updates to their 'free' versions, and now, only appears to offer subscription-based plans. I'm not even sure if this is possible, but I thought I would ask... does your version offer the option of saving your design file in the format of a previous generation? If so, would you be kind enough to re-upload a version that is backwards compatible?

Great Job! I have a CJ and have 10" of depth behind my rear seats to play with... so quit grousing about how little room you have back there ;) JUST KIDDING! One question - how much does it weigh, and have you had a chance to decide if you need to swap out your dampers/springs in the rear of the jeep to accommodate the additional weight?
Ewing Fox I’m not sure how much it weighs, but it’s heavy. With all the drawers empty it took my wife and I both to load it in the back. I’d guess it weighs around 70 lbs empty. Fully loaded drawers and fridge probably over 200 lbs.
The ride height was affected just a bit, so beefier suspension in the rear would probably be best, but I’ve taken it on a few trips so far and it’s performed fine. I drive pretty slow over obstacles though. I imagine if nothing else, the shocks will wear out faster.

Ewing Fox it’s extremely easy to work with and those rails can be used for many things.
Swap the drawers to the other side and You can build a fold down table on to your door for prep space

nice i like this a lot. Why not of put the fridge on another shelf that has its own set of slides so it could come out like another 36" ? just like how your stove does
Jeziorski7 Since the fridge is longer than the cabinet, I’d have to find a 3-piece slide instead of a 2-piece. I’m not sure they make those.

I don’t feel bad now for paying $1,400.00 for my TUFFY CARGO SECURITY 2 drawer system. It’s all powder coated metal that’s built exceptionally well and has superior strength locks and and matching keys for under the front seat gun locker. I use mine to carry my duty belt, bullet proof vests flack vest, helmet, and other equipment I need for work. I absolutely love it!
I really like yours also. The only difference I would do on yours is, I would have put the fridge on the driver side and the drawers on the passenger side, and got one of them slides that lowers the fridge. I would use the cooking stove on another table just cause I wouldn’t want to be cooking so close to the JEEP.
I have a 1996 Land Cruiser and I’m going to make that drawer system myself similar to yours. That one I don’t need to lock to all my gear in. That one is strictly an over landing vehicle for me and family.
Riddle me this... Batman. I thought about flip flopping the layout and putting a drop down table on the tailgate, but there would be no room to stand if it was folded down and the fridge or stove slid out.

Awesome rig! Personally I love having free counter space, maybe another slider under the Coleman stove? Also, I bet you'll eventually see grease and maybe even some heat wear on the side of your fridge from the stove. You mentioned keeping the other stove flap tucked because you won't need it for the wind, i'd be tempted to double it up in height as a heat/cooking shield to protect the fridge. I.e. Think about all the splatter that happens when you pan cook bacon :P

There’s no room under the stove for another slide the way it’s designed now. I might redesign that stove slide so it could accommodate one.

Table or prep surface?
MsEmmaHale I didn’t build one into the cabinet. I have a fairly large folding table that I use for any prep I need to do.
