I am from Chile, I was an exchange student at the UdG in 2017, it was one of the best experiences of my life, the people, the places, the food, the nightlife, it is a perfect combination of a large global city with the soul of a small town. I already want to go back!

Man, the nightlife in Guadalajara is on another level, best parties of my life.
I adore Guadalajara. I'm from Leeds in England, but Chivas de Guadalajara are my favourite football team outside the UK
Personally SKC is my Concacaf team because they are my hometown team but Arsenal and Gremio in Brazil are my main teams
Ditto from Leeds.
Same I’m also a chivas fan 🇲🇽⚽️❤️🤍💙🇫🇷
It is a pleasure to read something so beautiful about the Chivas del Guadalajara, I am from Guadalajara city.

When I was 15 (in 1990), some family friends needed to check on their apartment in Guadalajara, and they invited me to come along. It was an unforgettable experience. I vividly remember the indoor market, the lush greenery and architecture of the historic streets, the restaurants, the Mariachi, and the high air pollution, lol. That last point aside, I have always wanted to return; I love Mexico, and Guadalajara is at the top of my list of places to revisit.
Today is by far less polluted than when it was in the 90s.

My dad’s hometown (technically from Zapopan next door). I absolutely love GDL and I highly recommend any curious travelers to give it an opportunity to amaze you. Amazing food, people and absolutely beautiful too. Even though I was born and raised in the US, I’ve recently been looking into moving out to GDL for a change of pace. That should say enough about how much I appreciate the city. Thanks for spotlighting this criminally underrated city, Simon! (To clarify, I meant underrated internationally)
How safe is it from CJNG cartel?
I too was born/grew up in the US and have been contemplating to go back and live in Guadalajara where my family is from. I have only gone once but it was the most liberating feelings going over there.
But that's where all the narcos are.
Because Guadalajara is your father's hometown, I think you are also part of our beautiful land of Guadalajara, remember that we Mexicans are born wherever we want. Yo soy orgullosamente tapatio, saludos Mark
@@aloshyreji4313 pretty same relatively - this applies to most of the state as well. The CJNG have a strong hold on the state, as it's their base of operations, so violence here is relatively minimal. Violence is typically centered in regions where various cartels are vying for control of the area

I am from Zapopan Jalisco, biggest neighbor of Guadalajara, thanks for doing this video! Guadalajara has so many magical towns, food , scenery etc! A visit to tequila, Tlaquepaque, Tonalá, Mazamitla and you will fall in love! Too bad crime is high, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 16 years.

I have some video tours of all three of those cities, but if not mine, watch any videos of them on TH-cam, and trust me, you’ll fall in love! The whole country is beautiful though. I wish you luck! My son's father's family is from Guadalajara. When my son was a toddler, we drove from Chicago to Guadalajara, and stayed there for a month with some of their family.
I would love to go back someday, when I don't have to chase a small child. But, I will never have the same experience of living with families who lived in town. It was really interesting and immersive.
I hadn’t been to Guadalajara in well over 20 years, and my god has is changed. The western part of the city has modern skyscrapers and top of the line shopping that wouldn’t be out of place in Beverly Hills, especially Palacio de Hierro and that entire area
As a fellow Simon, and a Tapatío myself, this is my new favorite video on the channel ❤️

I was born in Compton California, I moved to Guadalajara in 2019. It’s true foreigners really don’t know about Guadalajara. It’s a beautiful city because my parents are Mexican I was able to receive my birth certificate and become a Mexican citizen. Being raised in Compton CA south L.A. area you just can’t compare. Wow, I never thought I’d see you make a video on the beautiful Guadalajara! I’m an American who lives in Mexico. I’ve traveled from Chihuahua (where I’m living) to Campeche a few hours from Cancun down south. Guadalajara was one of my top three favorite cities. If you can’t visit it, I’d say watch videos on it. I’ve made a couple on it while I was there but I don’t want to sound like I’m promoting. Watch any video of Guadalajara, and look at the absolute beauty of the city. It’s huge, and it blew my mind. Especially Tlaquepaque. I love the history of Mexico. Especially the Spanish part so this video was amazing. Awesome job as always! Greetings, and much love from an American living in Mexico 👍🏼🇲🇽🇺🇸
Wow I live there and I never would have expected for it to be covered in this channel. Honestly I'm not the proudest about living in México, but I do really love this city and would highly recommend it to turists or people looking for a nice place to live.

Born and raised in Guadalajara. I appreciate this video about my city. Not a perfect city by any means, but a pretty damn cool place to live in and in my humble opinion, the best city to live in Mexico if you like big cities. By the way, the Colonia Americana in Guadalajara was just ranked as the coolest neighborhood in the world by TimeOut magazine, which even if completely subjective, does attract some extra good attention to the city and that's always good.
Fun fact. Guadalajara experienced a mass UFO sighting at the exact same date the Nimitz saw the tic tac UFO flying over the ocean and they also State look out over there there's an entire fleet of them

I fly into GDL multiple times a year . It’s a massive city . My family’s hometown is about 2 hours away. So I have never really spent a lot of time there just about 3-4 hours each time I fly in and out . Now I’m interested in perhaps spending a weekend there.
If anyone ever visits and has a sweet tooth, go to downtown Guadalajara to a bakery called Alfredo's, very near the cathedral, they have the MOST AMAZING chocolate croissants you've ever had!!
It looks like a normal croissant but it has a CHONKY chocolate interior...man...they're like 20 mxn, it's just a little less than 1 usd dollar.
But if you're more of a Tequila fan, José Cuervo and Jimador have a train tour to visit their Hacienda-Destilería and you can take it from Guadalajara's train station.

Thanks, Simon. I do want to come back here again. The last time I went there was back in 2005.
I went to Guadalajara back in 1980 with a couple of friends who had family there and Mexico City. I loved Guadalajara it was really beautiful we stayed at a hotel that had a roof top patio and you could see how green it was. I went on TH-cam recently to look at houses out there for sale. I have a friend who recently moved out there after he retired. OMG how much it has grown, the house's I seen were very beautiful and had such amazing pools. I live in California, some of the homes I have seen look like in Beverly Hills but much cheaper in price. I am retired and in Cal. the house's are getting expensive. Who know's maybe I will move out there also.
You would be welcome.
You really have a good life in GDL, and if you bring a good budget, much better!!
You will enjoy the advantages of a large North American city, mixed with ancestral and colonial culture at a much better price than in the States. Oh and the super friendly people!
@@JR0078 I went last fall to GDL. I cannot believe how much it has grown since the last time I visited in 1980. I have a niece who just flew yesterday with her boyfriend to GDL. He has family there and they will be staying for a week, and another week in Puerto Vallarta in an Airbnb. I told her send me pictures. She say's California is way too expensive to live, and they want to buy a house after they get married. I feel bad for the younger generation in the U.S.
@@thomasfranco5997 I don't understand very well the situation why so many Americans intend to leave the USA to come to live in Mexico and other Latin American countries, and even more so when flocks of Central American people risk their lives mainly to achieve the "American dream." ".
Guadalajara is not perfect either, but let's consider that it's the Second city of the Economy number #12 of most important economies in the World. This data says a lot about the kind of city we're talking about.
@@JR0078 I bought my first new house in 1983 at 27 years old. A 4bed & 3bath 2 story home for $179,000 brand new. I have been living here now for 40 years. You know how much they are selling for now. I have a neighbor who just sold his for 1.4 million for the same floor plan. The younger generation cannot afford that here. That is crazy. I had to work 7 days a week working 2 Jobs for three years. to save money at that time to buy a house.
@@thomasfranco5997 Each place has its proportions and economic differences, but the same phenomenon is experienced everywhere. The new generations have it really difficult, although not impossible. They just need to have more financial discipline than you probably had in your youth. Today's young people do not have the same savings culture, they like to live day to day and having to pay rent they are happy. They simply don't care about forming a Heritage as perhaps previous generations did. But if you are not disciplined in the USA, you will not be disciplined in Mexico or any other place.
I had the privilege of being in Guadalajara for a month and thought the people were super nice there. Guadalajara feels more like a large town than a big city.

Being Mexican American there isn’t a lot to be proud of in Mexico these days but watching this video it reminds me of how proud I am that my families from Guadalajara and viva los Chivas!
My entire family is originally from Jalisco. The biggest reason why you may not feel much pride in Mexico these days is because you’re buying into the negative rhetoric from US politicians. Sure it’s not perfect and I don’t claim that its problems aren’t real, but it’s grossly overblown imho. I’m incredibly proud of my Mexican heritage and you shouldn’t let anyone make you feel differently. Most of those people have never set foot in the country.
Arriba las Chivas!
There is plenty. Even as far down as Argentina you feel the power of its culture to this day.
Well, if you feel that way, you are not welcome in México. GFY.
From the looks of your profile I don’t think you’re making Mexicans or latinos proud anyway
@@SmokeyChipOatley I have to disagree with you. I dont think the problems are being exaggereted, the problems are very very severe here in Mexico, there are some good things of course, but all the other bad things have a more heavy impact in the life of mexicans. As a Texan horseman I’d advice using the term lariat or simply rope in reference to a cowboys rope. Lasso is a very pop culture / touristy name.
Was he speaking of Mexico or U.S. when he used lasso? Lasso is anglicized Spanish for lazo.
The rope used by Charros in México is called la riata, (lariata for the cowboys)

Hard to beleive my grandma grew up here when it was mostly mud brick, adobe, and tin shacks outside of the fancier districts
That means you have never been in Guadalajara, the city has always been a big city since the XVII century, it was the capital of a Kingdom. It was in the 1980's that a lot of people from small towns and villages from other states relocated to Guadalajara in search of work and they built those shacks in the outskirts of the city, they are called "colonias ejidales", so it means your grandma was not originally from Guadalajara and came from a village outside the state of Jalisco.

Im from Guadalajara and i think its important to mention that, here, there isn't a shadow of a doubt on anyone's mind that the death toll of the explosion is much much much higher than the official toll, my high school teacher worked at a medical lab, there wasn't a morgue or a graveyard nearby but on the day of the explosion the entire parking was covered in body bags because every morgue in the city was full, and those are just the bodies found, it may be an urban myth, im not sure, but a lot of people claim that the governor ordered bulldozers to clear the rubble well before the rescue efforts were over, burying survivors alive and making it impossible to remove the corpses, it was an atrocious event of government incompetence and it will not soon be forgotten.
I wonder how the US media would treat an NBA or MLB team that only signed US-born players.
They used to do exactly that not long ago, they even only signed white players, and the media took it as very normal. Were you born less than five years ago, or haven't you read about U.S. History?
