  • Surrounded by mountains and water, the area is open, the breeze blows, and in the misty distance, vines sway, and under the ancient waterwheel, the smiling faces of tourists are faintly reflected. Going up along the stream, the Hui-style buildings with blue bricks and black tiles are arranged in a well-proportioned manner, and the lingering mist makes the eaves of the tiles drip with moisture. Pingshan Village, an ancient mountain and water village located about 4 kilometers northeast of Yi County, Anhui Province, seems to be a piece of fine Hui ink that nature has ground to create the most beautiful freehand painting of Jiangnan.
Pingshan Village is named after the high mountain in the north of the village that looks like a screen. It is surrounded by green mountains, and the Jiyang River winds through the village. Countless alleys, ancient ancestral halls, and stone bridges with unique characteristics can be seen everywhere. According to reports, Pingshan is a village inhabited by the Shu clan, with a history of more than 1,100 years. During the heyday of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the village had 12 streets, 60 lanes, 24 wells, 18 ancestral halls, 16 archways, and more than 400 houses.
Walking in the village, the water gurgles, ducks occasionally skim the water, children play in the water, and women wash by the stream, disturbing the tranquility of the village. In the ink-and-wash painting, there are houses in the countryside. Walking through the quiet bluestone road of the ancient path, the quaint and unique water village charm accompanied by the rich and heavy atmosphere of life comes to your face, making people can't help but slow down their pace and savor it carefully.
