And the Subcon doesn't appear as an enemy in the game, to my knowledge. Maybe they are those little things you rescue at the end. But if so, why include them in the enemies list in the credits?
@@eifbkcn he's so easy! he's even easier than mouser. just stack 3 of the mushroom blocks in the middle of the screen and hide behind them. then just start chucking. the 2nd fights even easier than the first

This is so beautiful to watch. Almost a work of art, and yet it's sort of the opposite of art, since whenever there's a choice, they must choose the faster option! Some of these glitch exploits, like the ones to rise quickly through the sky in 3-1 or get through the floor quickly in 3-2 and 5-1, are breathtaking.
This was one of my favorite NES games ever, but it definitely demanded patience and resourcefulness. So to see a video like this, one employing astonishing resourcefulness and no patience whatsoever, is a true delight. There's a Princess-only run if you're interested.
@GarroXZ It was actually something NOA changed and put into the SMB2 manual originally - it's been so long since I've beaten SMB2 that I forgot that it was 'wrong' in the credits. They thought switching the two names made far more sense, since the other one was an Ostro...ich.
I love Mario 2 TAS videos. They vindicate the position I've held all my life that people who think Toad is not the worst character, and those who think so don't know how to play this game :P
reloading after mistakes is the main concept of noob playing with savestates. TAS is not about mistakes but about SAVING ALL POSSIBLE FRAMES of time. if some tests show more can be saved, a savestate gets loaded to implement it. and some are saved to do all right.
The emulators is a US emulator, if you could even describe it like that, called FCEUX. Rom used is US as well. And for the makers of the TAS, Andrew is from US and Aglar is Swedish.
I understand about 60% of what I'm seeing. I feel like I'm back in 8th grade algebra, trying desperately to follow along, but continually having to ask "how did you just do that?"
THE REAL REASON:The SMB2 (Lost Levels) is hard for American audiences, so they take Doki Doki Panic and stick Mario characters in it. They even converted Doki Doki Panic's FDS Disk Format to a NES ROM format, and made some changes to the original Doki Doki Panic, and one day a ROM of "Mario II" prototype was leaked in the internet, and they spot Doki Doki Panic elements in the proto, the proto is a halfway development of Doki Doki Panic to SMB 2.
@DGMRuadeil I know that; Birdo shoots eggs every 256 frames regardless of when he opens the door, so he probably just had a lot of time to waste where being faster wouldn't have made any difference.
Miyamoto made it. He authorised it to be officially known as Super Mario Bros 2. Nintendo also released it in Japan as Super Mario USA. So it may not have started out as a Mario game, but it is a real official one now.
The fact that Mario got even ONE, count them: ONE use alone make the "Toad Variety Hour (feat. Luigi)" all the more humorous. Overall, pretty cool TAS.
SMB2 is a modified version of Doki Doki Panic. SMB2 Proto has Doki Doki Panic elements, and the SMB2 Proto came AFTER Doki Doki Panic, you can search the ROM on Google an play it on an emulator.
@@DrewPicklesTheDark I have played SNES SMB2 and the ladder jump works, the sonic speed carpet glitch works, so most likely every other works. GBA might not, don’t own it Also, at 3:46 there’s a clip that’s abused throughout this whole section which might work. Getting hit with an enemy after throwing it will cause the enemy to clip through the ground, and of course there’s the ladder clip at 1-1.
I know about SMB2 USA being a modified Doki Doki Panic. I'm talking about how Doki Doki Panic started out as the original SMB2. A SMB2 with co-op and vertically scrolling levels. But they scrapped the concept and turned the game into Doki Doki Panic. SMB2 Proto from what I understand now is an alleged beta (or something along those lines) of SMB2 USA back when it was still being modified from Doki Doki Panic. That isn't what I was talking about.
Fun fact. This game WAS originally made to be Super Mario Bros 2 (it was going to have co-op play too). But at some point in the development, Miyamoto and Tanabe decided the concept wasn't working, so they made what we know as SMB2 (the lazy sequel that just made everything harder) and turned the origianl SMB2 concept into Doki Doki Panic!. Which later got repurposed into the Super Mario Bros. 2 USA. Considering how much Mario games change anyway, no reason not to count this game as Mario.
to help explain to you, TAS = tool assisted speedrun. Take a look at the link he gave in the description, it should answer all your questions :) Welcome to the world of TAS!
@DGMRuadeil My guess is that Birdo would have shot the egg at the same time anyway if he'd gone in earlier, so he wasted as much time as possible for the lulz.
Yes it did. IDK what SMB2 proto on the Internet you are talking about (a quick glance is giving me some questionable roms), but Doki Doki Panic DID begin its life as a Mario game and the sequel to SMB1. The release dates don't really matter since games can be delayed or pushed up. What I'm talking about concerns the development of the games.
Your fact is WRONG, Doki Doki Panic was released FIRST than SMB 2, the ORIGINAL SMB 2 is the Lost Levels. Nintendo decided NOT to release the Lost Levels (SMB2) to the NES because it's difficulty is hard. Miyamoto made Doki Doki Panic also.
The point of a TAS isn't to show off what a player can do, but what's technically possible within the limits of the game. And they do take a deceptive amount of skill, it's just more planning skill than twitch skill.
So what you mean is SMB 2 Proto is going to be Doki Doki Panic? uhhhh if you're saying the Lost Levels version, Doki Doki Panic is a completely new game. SMB 2 the lost levels is just a re-modified SMB 1.
My posts had nothing to do with SMB2 not being released in the USA initially and the instead, we got SMB2 USA. The only reason I mentioned SMB2 USA is because it is ironic that Doki Doki Panic (a game that was originally planned to be SMB2, but got dropped in favor of just making Lost Levels) gets turned into SMB2 anyway (for one region, but still).
By pausing the game, the player was able to advance Mouser's movement algorithm without Mouser actually moving. That way the player was able to kill him faster than normally possible.
Straight up amazing work! How much practice did you do to get this skilled or are you just a natural or did you have help? If you had help, it still is interesting to watch. -Meowgid

This is really good but what's going on with the video glitching? It somewhat ruins a good TAS. Can they just redo the video part to make it more watchable?

@llproductions2006 We actually did this so that birdo was in the most optimal position when shooting the egg (furthest rightward). :)

The character design for small Luigi is nutty

No, actually, he's right.
Didn't realize this game was so glitchy, especially the NES version. GBA version probably patched everything when they ported it.
GBA is basically a modded port of the SNES reskin of this game. Makes me curious how many the SNES one fixed, then how much the GBA fixed after that.

@Kazooker I don't know. Ask Ash, Chrono crew or Mega Man.
He also gets a small run speed boost just from carrying items.
Why were Birdo and Ostro mixed up? 20:42
It was a codename glitch in which it was later fixed in Sma: Smb2.

Toad lifts objects faster. Mario does everything normally. There's situations where they would be better suited to lift faster, or regularly.
He's fastest at picking up things, that's probably why he was used for so many of these levels.
I particularly liked what you did in 3-2 and 3-3.
Why did you climb the same ladder three times with Luigi?
"Yo toad, last night i dreamed some weird shit about you, it involves you doing some weird shit, fucking around"
This was supposed to be a different game but at the last minute they made it Mario Brothers

So Toad is just unstoppable, Mario can double jump, Luigi can FLY, and Peach is...there. Understood
