Wait a minute!!! You Bing down Blue Bell because of "limited" distribution and then state the best brand can be hard to find?!?!? You say the best on your list can be ordered on-line....(just like blue bell?)
Moved to Texas first when I initially retired from the Navy. I had never heard of blue bell ice cream before. Well more than a few of my "extra" weight I put on after retiring can be directly linked to my low will power and the great taste of blue bell. Thank you for all of your hard work putting this together for us even if I do not agree with all of rankings.

Funny they took points off Blue Bell only because it’s not available nationwide but 2/3 of the brands listed I’ve never seen before. I’ve heard of most of them but they’re not commonly sold where I am. Maybe I’m just biased since I live 30 minutes from Blue Bell’s home base in Brenham Tx lol.
Also most brands they tested were the vanilla bean flavor. Blue Bell offers that and it’s actually really good but the homemade vanilla version outsells it by a mile.

You didn't mention Hudsonville Ice Cream, a company started in Hudsonville, MI in 1926 and moved to Holland, MI after it was purchased in 2003.
Their products are sold throughout Michigan and other mid-western states. They carry such local favorites as Blue Moon, Traverse City Cherry Fudge and Mackinaw Island Fudge (all very good). In the Detroit area you can purchase it at your local Walgreen's, Meijer's, Krogers, Walmart and Busch's grocery. You should give it a try.

My choice Publix grocery stores, a southeastern US grocer out of Lakeland Florida with around 1300 stores.
And yes I choose Publix brands over national brands every time in every category. Also I think sells more deli sandwiches than subway per store.
Another idea is who has the best fried chicken..... yes Publix fresh fried chicken is the best too

@World Violation Don't mistake my meaning. What I meant, I said, and what I said, I meant. The problem here is that you got triggered and started slapping your keyboard without thinking, and in so doing, were wrong from the start because you applied your own context to my post, and then you acted on that context, attributing it to me. You started off by telling me what I said, and then launched into a tirade over it. I didn't say anything about muslims. You did. And that my saying "terrorist" immediately makes you think of muslims speaks to your beliefs. Your character. Not mine.

Every tub of Blue Bell has the same UPC label regardless of flavor - this is meant to keep the stores that sell it from being able to track which flavors are actually selling the best at their stores. If you go into an H-E-B you will find two UPC labels as H-E-B has to add their own UPC label manually to each tub after delivery to get this type of data. That is how serious the ice cream wars are, and another reason Blue Bell cannot be found in some states as old regulations in those states prohibit the manufacturer from delivering straight to the store (which reduces costs to consumers but bypasses warehouse middlemen).

    • @stevecarr1992

    • @cxa340
      @cxa340 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@georgeburns7251
No, it all has to do with the data that is held within the UPC and the ability of a manufacturer to keep that data proprietary. By having only one UPC Blue Bell is able to keep Walmart, Kroger, or H-E-B from being able to see what flavours of Blue Bell are the most popular and compete with their own line of ice creams. Since Blue Bell delivers to the store and not the warehouse, the supermarket has no say in what flavours are delivered and is unable to track which flavours sell best at which stores. This is why, when the ice cream is delivered, H-E-B will place a second UPC on the carton that allows them to try and track data like flavour. In the event of a recall, there is other information on the carton that would advise the plant and date of manufacture to tell someone if the item needs pulled of the shelf or not.

I can’t speak for all the flavors, but the Breyer’s Natural Vanilla which I buy on a somewhat regular basis is clearly labeled as ice cream on the container, first three ingredients (of only five total) are milk, cream and sugar. Per my original comment the simpler the ingredients, the better. If an item is not labeled as ice cream, I believe that means there’s not sufficient milk fat contained in the product.

We always had Breyer's ice cream in our freezer. You can buy a lot of the ice creams on this list at the grocery store where I work and I have tried a lot of them. Talenti's is amazing. I love that the lids are screw on and the containers are plastic. I tried Halo Top once (because I had a coupon for a free pint) and it was disgusting.

Haagen-Daz makes both Vanilla (which you rated) and Vanilla Bean ice creams. I've been wondering which was better. It's too bad you didn't rate the Vanilla Bean.

I tried both and I like the Vanilla bean a lot better. Like them both very much but whenever they have vanilla bean, that is my choice.

Vanilla is great. And if you put something fresh on it, like chocolate syrup or crushed berries, it's soooo much better than any flavored ice cream. I like the Harris Teeter all natural Vanilla....I don't know who makes it for them but it's great! Read the label when you buy ice cream, you don't want a lot of fake stuff and chemicals in it.

The problem with this list is that it considers cost and calories. All that should matter is taste. Also, they bought the cheap ass artificial Turkey Hill instead of the All-Natural variety they make. Having gelato & yogurt on the comparison is cheating too. Might as well have frozen custard in there as well.

Mostly I agree with you. I think okay if you put gelato in- fine and if you include french vanilla ok but taste should be the only consideration I think.

I agree with u !!! When I started to watch this, I thought they did a survey to find the best tasting ice cream!! Taking into consideration of other things, impacts the best tasting ice cream, differently!!

People think those little vanilla specks in ice cream are vanilla seeds. They're actually ground up pods.

One of the many reasons for traveling to Michigan's Upper Peninsula is to sample Jilberts Ice cream. Originally a family dairy in Marquette Michigan it was sold to Dean's foods a decade or so ago. Deans decided that they could cheapen the formula and no one would notice. Boy were they wrong! The outcry was enormous. Deans went into bankruptcy .....surprise!.... Eventually a dairy cooperative bought the brand and returned to the original formula, or at least pretty close. Jilberts ice cream is now even more widely distributed and the Mackinaw Island Fudge flavor is to kill for. This ice cream is so good that when we return to Florida for the Winter we don't eat any ice cream. Why waste calories on inferior products. By-the-way, Jilberts will ship ice cream to you in a container with dry ice. You may even began to find it in some upper mid-west grocery stores.

Graeters is by far the best ice cream that I've had in the US, as good as gelato in Italy. I'm so happy to see they ranked it #1. Well done. Their chocolate chip has chips the size of quarters. Fresh Market and Whole Foods has it.
Expensive yes, but like a lot of things such as steak, I don't eat it often but when I do, I want quality.

An old advertisement stated “ Blue Bell ice cream is so good because the cows think Brenham (TX) is heaven”. Ingredients be damned, still the best ice cream in the country. Thank God they started distributing in Florida since I moved here in 98’.

Graeter's Vanilla is my number one. Try some of their other flavors. Sold at Whole Foods and sometimes Publix supermarkets carry it.
