I love that and plan on getting one for sure. Huddison, I love your videos, your personality, and style, you are one of the best. I look forward to and save just about every video of yours for future reference, they are just that good. I do not get on Discord much, but want to more, and sure hope I can join you and some others on a flight some time. Thank you for everything Sir.
I regret to say that I forgot to watch this in detail and only got back to it just now. I noted that you had Rosen's MiniAP in view on your desk. I believe you also have the Mini FMS. I would recommend anyone who has a bit of PC nous and a 3D printer (or a friend with one) to try building those two Rosen units; they are capable of doing everything that the Octavi does at around about 20% of the price. No they don't have the finish of the Octavi, which looks excellent but they do the job. The additional benefit is that you get to learn using Mobifilight with which to map map just about any button, encoder or switch (including those on any controller) or collection thereof, to all of the features which are mappable in the target aircraft. This very powerful indeed. The World is your oyster; if you have the cash then the Octavi looks a very good option, however if you are on a budget, the Rosen alternatives are a very good alternative.
@@Huddison - It really is! I love not needing to click/rotate the dials on the screen with the mouse now! (Well, in most aircraft, some still need mouse interaction, but still, it's been worth the price so far.)
I have purchased the unit Huddison. Would you be able to do an in-depth set-up video for it using Mobiflight? I can use it with the basic plugin but I can't get the unit to work with autopilot on many of the GA aircraft with the G1000
Great Review as always ...The only thing is, that I can see, is a lot of us have the Logitech Panels.. Which do make it easier to read as they have display screens... Perhaps this is something the good DR might think about as an add on in future.. Looks good value but difficult to go after, if you already have a Bravo or the Logitech panels... Most impressed though looks an excellent build and wish the company success in the future.. If my panels died I would have no hesitation ordering one...
As the owner/regular user of the Logitech panels, I must agree. However, if you don't, then this would be a very viable alternative. Also, if your desktop is getting cluttered and you're using the Tobii ET5 then this will significantly improve visibility. (James, take note!)
@@chrisvowell2890 True Chris.. The other thing I must congratulate Dr Felix on is....I remember the big hassle of getting Logitech units to work with MFS2020 AND Bravo units with no lights working and having to chase drivers to get them to work...I never understand a developer sending out a good product and going out of their way to make it difficult for the unit to work with the sim.....Well done Dr Felix at last an almost plug and play piece of software..
@@Huddison Having seen your review, I may sell my Logitech radio and multi panels and buy the Octavi to use instead. I've been considering a touch screen as a second to display my LNM navigation maps (I only fly GA) and this would sit well alongside the Octavi - as long as I can find a way to mount it at the right angle for ease of use. (It appears that the Octavi can only sit flat on a desk which is a pity.)
I am sure you can make a simple base for it and mount it vertically simply enough. My Tobii mount did not like my curved screen so I have it mounted on a small box that puts it where it would be if it were mounted properly on the screen. Everything can be improvised, just adapt and overcome.@@chrisvowell2890
I don't know if I should buy this. I have autopilot buttons on my honeycomb bravo and alpha and radios on the saitek Logitech panel. It seems it will do the same job. Even if I wouldn't have Saitek Logitech radio panel I think it is not necessary piece of HW to buy it only for the frequencies changes.
I like it, but as an Xbox guy I don’t have to debate spending the $ for it. James, isn’t there something like this out for Xbox? If so, I’d love for you to do a review.
Looks good, but a glaring design flaw... the cable sticking out of the top makes it a bit flawed if you want to mount it on a panel. Would have been good if it had an option to plug it into the rear. Thanks for the video.
I like the minimalist format and the buttons look nice however it seems that the layout could have been better thought out. Why are there two AP buttons and why are several buttons missing a secondary function ? There is no Flight Level Change or VLOC for instance. Then there is the price, it's a bit on the high side.
Miss the days when you did a lot more with Xbox but I understand they are late to the party with Xbox. Xbox is still the undisputed red headed step child of the flight sim world🤓🤣🤣🤣🤓🥸
@@Huddison That only applies to the rotating knobs. Configure a + and - button and you are done. No, it isn’t the same. But for the same feel a tool like this isn’t so real either, is it? Better buy a total cockpit or fly for real. My point is this tool is just too far off the real thing and too expensive to be worth it.
Looks like a good complete unit for use in vr. No screens that become redundant and easy to memorise the layout for blind button pressing whilst viewing the virtual panels in game
Yes. This unit is ideal for those short on space; those who like the ingenuity of it and for those who don't already own hardware with the same functions.

Wow simply amazing. I hope I can buy this in America. Nailed it for those on a budget. Thank you

I won't sleep until I have one of those modern simulator miracles. 😊
Got to get them all ;)
I've had my IFR-1 for a couple weeks now and it's great! 😁
It's quite unique isn't it.

Do you mean setting up bespoke bindings in Mobiflight? I'm afraid that I am not very familiar with it, but will aim to look into it.
It would be interesting if there was some way to mount it. It looks like it might slip around while you’re manipulating the buttons and knob.
It has rubber feet at the back and seems very stable on surfaces.
The Octavi IFR-1 is now available in the US with free shipping
Still waiting for mine though Im getting a learning start from your video.👋 Cool, finished watching can't wait now.
Hope you enjoy it!
(BigR) Seems an ideal accessory for using with my laptop James, with my limited space.
I'll certainly be using it with my laptop on future travels.
I see the VS (Vertical Speed) button, but can it also be used for FLC (Flight Level Change) mode on the G1000?
I'll have to do more investigating
I love my Octavi.
Me too.

Thanks Al and Chris. The TE5 is above my panels when I'm sat at my desk, it just never looks that way in my videos.

Only buy it if you feel that you'll really need it. I 100% agree on your comment re the Radio panel: I use it a fair bit.
Wow…. $165 …..thats CRAZY. For real. Im not even a tight wad, and have spent a lot on my hobby, but that is a ridiculous price for that
I agree/ At that rate I would want to see FLC too. Then I would consider it
Only a question, is the mobyflight essential for this hardware ? Thanks from Spain
For this one, yes.

If you go with the mobiflight installation route, you can re-assign the buttons & functions to do whatever you desire.
Does it give access to the 530/430 RNG button which allows you to change the range of the display?
It may be possible to bind (if it's a bindable option).
@@Huddisonyes. Are you saying it currently is not implemented in the out of the box product?

I've only tested it in the most recent iterations of Flight Sim, so can't help with that one.

A keyboard worth 10 euro does the same. And more. And it works on XBox.
Following that logic, you might as well just use your mouse to interact with the AP - not quite the same thing though is it.
