  • As workplaces take tentative steps towards a new normal, social psychologist Heidi Grant shares best practices for interacting when some are in the office and some are remote.
00:00 In the "new normal", the habits we learned during quarantine need to change.
00:30 Cameras on, cameras off: which is it?!
01:14 You need to decide when they'll be on or off for everyone.
03:05 Let's face it: what we're doing now isn't really working.

Honestly i'm not the type of person who can do a camera on meeting for two reasons 1- I'm photophobic i don't like cameras and they make me feel anxuios 2- I'd rather listen then interact because facial expressions can be distractive .
If i'm going to have a camera on meeting i'd rather have a face to face meeting instead that makes a lot more sense to me .
I believe the words that are being said counts the most especially in rational discussions or making valid points in order to reach an agreement , so i think the ultimate solution is learning how to listen before saying something for example when i listen to a lecture i don't really keep an eye on the lecturer all the time i listen to what he or she says and it works perfectly for me because it gives me a chance to value everything on the right scale , and frankly speaking i'm not a big fan of the science of human behaviour especially the programs, because that caused public paranioia in many workplaces , i'm more with let people feel free and comfortable therefore i am disliking this video.

This is an extraordinary video on how to conduct meetings nowadays. Thank you so much for your professional advice and input. I only wish I had seen this video back in March, 2020 ... Excellent advice on how to deal with each scenario. Only one observation - not everyone has WiFi or cameras at home on their computers...that's a major problem that leaves them out of the equation completely.

Great recommendations! What are your thoughts about having the in-person attendees on the same platform as the remotes (i.e. their laptops), so everyone uses the same chat, polling, Q&A, etc? Everyone needs to know how to avoid audio echo/feedback (muting mic's and speakers), but in my mind, getting over that hurdle is also worth it to keep the playing field even.

Great stuff as I enter the hybrid environment! I am a learning instructor and my students can't use video due to technical limitations company wide. Any thoughts or work arounds would be appreciated!

I'm baffled at the idea that camera choice is such an issue. It certainly isn't my experience. I've occasionally asked and have been asked to be camera-off for meetings with a large number of delegates but when it is a team meeting with maybe only 25 (or 5, depending) people then we cope ok. I do check with my teams to make sure they're ok too.
I'd like to understand an alternative experience.

I would love to see an interview with entrepreneur and author Matthew Kelly featured on HBR.

This is good but one needs to keep into consideration differently abled people's participation too, and that perspective needs to be added into the video
