It was so refreshing to hear and see such Authenticity Genuineness Transparency Humility and Tenderness between two amazingly gifted musicians. One love to the both of you.
Wow! I don't know what to say!! .... Ron Carter thank you so much for this 52:13 of pure bliss sharing this video ... Two of my favorite people, although Diana is and will always be my hero and just a very special person through her music but also her sweet down to earth personality . I own most of Diana's CD's . (All for You) 1996 front to back is beautiful (The Look of Love) 2001 I will stop there haha. When you asked Diana what other instrument she would like to play waiting for her answer I'm thinking (guitar) then after some thought DK says guitar I was shocked in a good way ....... Ann Arbor MI. Hill Auditorium 2009 after the concert walking past a line of strangers in the back area I asked why are all you people standing back here, a fellow fan says Diana is coming out to say hello I found a place in line and waited ...Diana did in fact come out and greeted each and every one of us ...When my turn came i asked her if she would sign the DK shirt I just purchased, she said sure what is your name i replied Spencer at witch point she said that was a name she considered for one of her boys I will never forget that moment .......LuvUGuys! TY for this.......
I would just like to make a small observation Ron. The idea about what it's going to be like once you get back out there. And thinking perhaps there maybe a moment of worry before you begin, well I just like to say that us bedroom (stroke) housebound, musicians that have not made a successful career in music (for one reason or another) well we feel that all the time because we don't get enough work or whatever. I just like to say that it is very refreshing that even the greats of this music called Jazz can feel the same way (and more to the point) you are human like us after all and not these non approachible beings that us bedroom musicians have created in our own minds. I thank you and Diana for the window of clear perspective of making us wood workers see the reality that we all have the same struggles and that all musicians are just one big extended family. Your channel is so grounding for us all. Man I just had another thought,,, maybe that's the real reason they call bass players "the anchor man", and as I understand it that is not a great term for the bass players role in music, but perhapse it mite be an emotional role of keeping the group together as they fly through a dazzling solo section. Sorry man I'm just thinking out loud. Thank you brother Ron.
I came across this, Maestro, after talking to a dear friend and Lady Krall was singing 'Cry Me a River'; forgive me for being late to this intimacy ...
Thank you both for sharing this conversation with us. I sincerely appreciate these real conversations, outside the often-too-brief showbiz side of your lives. Beautiful. ❤
So glad I finally spotted this. No surprise that this _exactly_ reflects how you both play - thoughtful, sensitive, warm, and intelligent. The genuineness of it all got me quite emotional. I might need to write a song about it 😄 The topics are a reminder of that whole awful period of loss, powerlessness, and social turmoil. I admit I've been trying to forget. It feels so much further in the past than it is. Smudgy faded memories already. Hard to believe it even happened at times. Thank you both for enriching my existence and educating this musician for so many years. Truly 🙏
Your interviews are the best, Ron !!...you have a natural gift to make people feel comfortable, safe and at ease, all lovely conversations with good people. I really forget who they are when they talk to you, and it seems like they kinda forget too.
I agree with you. The conversation between Mr. Carter and Ms. Krall was much like the intrinsic qualities of jazz music itself--in the moment, improvisatory, and organic. This was a treasure. All interviews should be so authentic. Blessings to both great artists and thank you so much for sharing this, Mr. Carter!
39:23 Ron Carter explains bass to his students and totally nails it. Nails it? Yeah! I've heard these words before but not with the authority of a giant like Ron Carter. Total gold for all musicians. 40:46 Quote ends. 42:02 Do you feel it's important to know the original changes
A marked contrast between this conversation and others you’ve had. You both were able to get across a certain melancholy about not playing and yet end the talk on a positive note. Thank you both for taking the time to show what empathy is.
Thank you so much for this wonderful conversation. Elgar's Nimrod is so personal and powerful! I love it when jazz giants love rhe giants of classical music.
Thanks so much. This is absolutely wonderful. You are both thoughtful and sincere, while completely unscripted. It's less an interview and more a conversation. And you invited us listeners into it in a really lovely way. The pandemic has affected us all in so many ways.
I’m a classical musician who plays an instrument with a traditionally Subsidiary role: the viola. Everything you said applies to us, as well as bass Oh, and my son is a jazz bassist.
Ron Carter is the most dynamic bassist of our era. He is the highest standard in music. I wish the both of you good health. I am very wary of the “vaccine” and the people behind it. No sir hugs Ron..Just the real Ron Carter.
Wow, this was so enjoyable. The conversation was so real and down to earth as it should be. And it's great seeing you guys at home and relaxed. Thanks for the tips on Nimrod and Aretha's Soul 69...instantly became part of my streamed collection. Ron, I wish you talked a little about your audiophile life and asked Diana about hers, or if she is an audiophile or not. Could be interesting. Maybe next time? Thanks to both of you for great content and time well spent! Merry Christmas!
Hi, Ron. Your playing has enriched my life for many years. Thank you. I think these are important interviews you are doing, and I just want to encourage you to continue doing them. I have a feeling students and lovers of the music will be listening to these long after any of us are still here.
like a great piece of music. this exchange across a whole host of subjects made me utterly forget what time it was as the conservation continued. It was full of feeling and insight. I thank you for the knowledge, wisdom, and for the time.
feel that the music has lost its romanticism in the lyrics. I mean simple melody and talk about good moments in simple way The enthusiasm of romantic songs talking about couples' relationships in a humane and kind way. Couples enjoying being together and the emotional involvement. The creativity of changing routine with the confidence of being together. Miss Diana Krall revivel the good music and made it with personalty. I'm waiting an opportunity to see Diana Krall in Brazil soon
Wow, you artist and in particular you musicians are for sure the ones who suffer the most from all this damn sh…! When you are a musician and you are locked up in your practising room for such a long time, it really sucks! At the end of the day you need to go out and present what you have practised for so long to the audience. But be aware, you are not alone and you have our fullest sympathy. Thank you very much Ron. I am a big fan of yours and of course of Diana too! All of you are soooo humble. I am glad to found your channel after I watched your interview with Rick Beato (thx Rick)! God bless you all! Wishing you all the best and many more wonderful times to come. Stay healthy. Cheers DimiZ
@@emmanuellebaudenon4497 It is not about competition it should always be about inspiration and learning new stuff. No matter how good others are, if you love playing your intrument, then keep on rocking. ;)
Mr. Carter, I wish we could say this pandemic will be over but everyone needs to be vaccinated….thank goodness in some counties now, they’re requiring everyone to be to enter the venue. I remember hearing Blossom Deary from the house school rock songs on Saturday mornings….I love her voice! Great conversation w/Diana Krall.
It was so refreshing to hear and see such
Authenticity
Genuineness
Transparency

Tenderness between two amazingly gifted musicians.
One love to the both of you.
Lookin into their eyes (especially Dianas) made it clear.
They are firmly rooted in another world.
What a pleasure beyond .......
To Mr. Carter and Ms. Krall ... Thank you both for the empathy and your vulnerability in the midst of these troubling times
She is an incredible woman. What a voice.
Ron Carter is the man!
Both on top ... and still striving.
Diana's A Train ... savage ... the best ... and East Of The Sun ...
Such a cool and calm voice Diana has.
Thanks Ron for the nice conversations with Diana 👌👍🙏
This is soul lifting and terribly nostalgic at the same time.... one of the greatest musical eras in the history of art, is slowly coming to an end.
39:30 is gold! Thank You Mr Carter
These are great interviews--conversations, really. Very thoughtful. Human communication. Thanks.
Two of the most delightful, most interesting, favorite musicians. I've played their LP's over and over again.

If i only had watched the last five minutes this would still be my favorite interview.

Thank you Mr. Green. I appreciate you sharing your out-loud thoughts!

Dear Ron. You are the president of the music presidents.I love you❤️❤️ thank you for those grooves and amazing bass lines.
I appreciate you sharing these very kind words! Thank YOU!
This is great because we are all going through the same emotional roller coaster .
We hear musicians who are at this level talking to interviewers who know nothing about music. This was great.
We
A what a lovely conversation!

A wonderful conversation about music and life between two great artists - thank you so much for sharing this, Mr. Carter!
I'm glad you enjoyed, Ms. Martin :)
This is very real, thanks!

What a wonderful exchange of feelings. Just stumbled upon this in September. Thank you both for enriching my day.
Love this!
This is so good because it is mostly about the moment; a real conversation. Very enjoyable-I felt I was eavesdropping :)

Great Great stuff Mr. Ron. I was honored to meet you back in 89 when I was GB's assistant on Tenderly LP. You are always an inspiration.

This is great. Thank you.
Ron Carter is the Yoda of bass, no, of music. “There is no try, there is only bass.”
I’m a classical musician who plays an instrument with a traditionally Subsidiary role: the viola. Everything you said applies to us, as well as bass Oh, and my son is a jazz bassist.
Nice Pat Metheny shirt, Maestro!

This was like a private call that you accidentally stumbled across with a hidden gem at 39:43
❤
‘Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again’.
its impossible to catch up with the music, however...we try
Did you know my sister played bass clarinet and I played clarinet
Do you need a bassoon player..if I survive it might motivate me
Make sure that you cry and play in the same key :)))
Just kidding
😊
Is that real ?? Diana Krall with Ron Carter !!...Pfffff...
i am moved by the sense of responsibility these musicians feel for the music, the audience, and towards beauty
