    Just here to give flowers to the amazing Ron Carter. I learned about Mr. Carter from a Tribe Called Quest song and it got me interested in jazz. I thank Mr. Carter for not being an elitist that looked down on hip-hop instead he poured into the genre with his amazing bass playing and allowed new generations to be aware of his music.

    • @RonCarterBassist
      @RonCarterBassist  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your kind words :) When A Tribe Called Quest first asked me to record, I didn't know anything about hip-hop, so I asked my sons if they thought I should take the gig. They said yes, and I'm glad I listened.

    Interresting conversation between to great musicians. Has been a big fan of Ron Carter and Jim Hall together. Did buy all Pat's recordings in the early days. As Ron says, is that melodic guitarists is their own orchestra. Also like to mention Ed Bickert who had his almost endless harmonic chord voicing. Bass can also be very melodic instrument.

    This interview means so much. There's just one thing; he's said on two different interviews that the drummer is the leader of the band. There's the interview someone else mentioned, and there's the MJ1 interview. I get the feeling he said the bassist was the band leader to have a more favorable interview with you. Gotta love him, 'cause he aims to please.

I knew "Forward March" was opening the show, so I waited until they marched past me, and what do you think I did? Well, I marched right behind them until that whistle-blow, did a 180 and dashed back to my seat near the back of the audience! I'm so glad I didn't get in trouble for that!

    I've listened to Metheny's music for 35 years, but have heard him interviewed only three times, odd thoughts he's uttered have stayed in my mind:
    "I'm extremely aware of the details of existence"...
    I now look forward to his interviews, he's a bit unusual:)

    Double quarter pounder. Good stuff. Quite different approaches. Ron has an ethernal child, playful soul and approaches a gig spontameously, much as a kid on his Lego construction. Fresh and with a slack. Always different.Pat on the other hand is like always inside the gig, restless, planned, always working on the crafting, not a detail left to luck which give us a different result. Maybe not as fresh but huge in conception. Love them both. Both are amazing and both are necessary. The world would be the saddest place without their music.

    I enjoyed watching this sooo much. Although I hardly ever play my guitar anymore, Pat Metheny and Ron Carter changed my life. After seeing Pat's show in 80's in Warsaw, I got interested in jazz music and remined his bigest fan until now. Years after that, when I moved to NYC I studied with Ron at City College and my life was never the same. I've heard Pat say that Miles' Four and More (with Ron playing bass) inspired him to play Jazz. I remember listening to the same LP in Poland and being blown away by the new (to me sound) from a far awar land I did know I would be living in in the future. My mind wonders about what could have, should have, would have been...

    Near 7:10 Pat says he wouldn’t be a musician if it weren’t for Ron. This is to both Ron and Pat: it would be so helpful to hear more about that process, in as much musical detail as you’d be willing to share, for us musicians to learn. Of course that would need to be at least a full interview, just to summarize it, but it would be historical. Please consider this heartfelt request? 🙏🏾🎶💚

      Not to answer for Pat or mr Carter, but interpret Metheny's answer as an acknowledgement that hearing Miles Davis' Four and More really got him deep into jazz and on the trajectory of becoming a musician. Mr Carter was of course integral in that quintet. Hence his acknowledgement here.

    love the light bulb changing experience metaphor and the stretching of time - i've heard this sense of time morphing during the pandemic - to hear two of my idols being affected by it is fascinating and so human of these guys to open up about feeling fear

    Wow! You both have been huge influence upon me as a musician and a lover of music. I've spent hours of my formative years listening to both of you. I hope you realize the real and profound impact you've had on my life (and I am sure countless others). Thank you for this!

      @@RonCarterBassist Farmers feed our bodies, musicians like you feed our souls. In times like the present, the soul-food you've provided is so important.
