This is a wonderful rendition of a wonderful John Lennon song. These people here in this video, along with millions of others, are helping to keep his spirit and memory alive and at least it is a big consolation to all his fans that his music continues to shine on as brightly as ever and that his killer, who seems to have murdered him for no particular reason at all apart from the desire to say he had killed a famous person, has no chance whatsoever to extinguish the star that is the music of John Lennon and also his memory. It is such a tragedy that the world was and has been deprived of so many Lennon songs that he would have written and sung in the 43 years since his senseless murder. Although he would by now have been approaching his 83rd birthday, I am sure he would be writing and singing new songs even today.
I was there on October night in 2013. And I’m not sure if there was this same young guy but I remember that I saw a young man and I was surprised he knew all the Beatles songs. He wasn’t playing that night but he was singing most of his songs!
I think it is absolutely certain that John Lennon would have loved this song being played at the Lennon memorial site in Central Park, New York and would have said “well done and congratulations to all of you!” People of many races and nationalities and ages singing and playing this song would have delighted John Lennon and he would also say they were contributing, no matter how small, to a better world where people, no matter where they came from, could sing together in harmony.
I'm so curious about this WONDERFUL yearly gathering. When did it start? Was organized as an event from the very beginning? Do the ppl that show up agree to a preplanned set list? How long has this been going on? And more importantly what do I need to do to be apart of it?! I'm here in Atlanta Ga and would gladly be there!
I think it started around 1985 when they named that place "Strawberry Fields". I know some musicians have been attending for more than 30 years. There's no set list and You just need to show up for either October 9th and December 8th. My first time there was back in 2014. I didn't know about this gathering but I went there on John's Memorial to take some pics and just sit down there for a while but I was so surprised to see there all these people gathered and singing.
