Ghostbusters is a definite favourite of mine. I saw it in the cinema when it originally released when I was 15 years old, and it was the most amazing movie ever. Still is.
Honestly, I can quote big parts of the first Ghostbusters movie because I saw it in theaters and wore out my VHS copy back in the late 80's, but still Afterlife is absolutely my favorite. Mckenna Grace is cute as a button, and I love her science nerd character Phoebe, and Antman, I mean Paul Rudd is an absolute treasure, and thank Jason Reitman SO much for making the movie. Also, how cool and sexy is it that they got an uncredited Olivia Wilde to play Gozer, amazing. I wish she had been in the credits for the movie because she was amazing. I will hell yeah go see the next movie in theaters, even though my nearest theater is an hour away, worth it. Also, I have an issue with calling them "Terror Dogs". They are actually gargoyles, which were used on medieval and medieval inspired structures to scare off spirits, and of course medieval people gave no thought to the idea that their gargoyle "protectors" could actually be problems in themselves, which the writers of the original Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Rick Moranis took excellent advantage of.
If you like the design of that Terror Dog puppet, look up the rig that the Jim Henson company uses for a bunch of stuff (Most famously Big Bird on Sesame Street, but also Bear from Bear In The Big Blue House and a similar rig is used for some of those big Coca Cola Polar Bear suits) where they have a television monitor strapped to their chest, one arm up in the head, the other arm in one of the suit's arms, and that arm rigged to the other with a wire to allow for movement. I bring it up because one of the really impressive things from hearing from the puppeteer who played Bear was that he was walking around on a set that was filled with puppeteer pits for the puppeteers running the smaller characters in the scenes, and navigating the whole thing from a third person view (AFAIK there was no third camera, he was working from the actual feed from the show cameras) with no view of those pits, all while dancing around in a giant bear costume.
I absolutely loved Afterlife, yes i do believe it was a love letter because it FELT like one and it really played with my emotions the entire movie. I cant say that it was 100% perfect but its still enjoyable to watch multiple times like the original and maybe Frozen Empire when it comes out!
I think you guys should make a video highlighting all the movies that hyped up their use of practical effects in marketing & interviews, only to have tons of VFX shots throughout the films. You opened my eyes to this for Barbie & Top Gun Maverick (even showing the edited "behind the scenes" footage hiding blue screens), but it's still a topic few people are even aware of. I just saw an interview about Dune 2 focusing on "practical effects," but we all know the final shots are a blend of CGI or just CGI all together.
My parents took me to see this in the theatres... 9 years old... And it scared me so badly that after the showing if Slimer, I had to sit in the lobby for the rest of the movie. It took me another decade before I was willing to watch it, and to this day I have zero tolerance for 'stress scares' (the ones where you know something is coming, but don't know what or when).

Please react to dune part two! The visuals are insane! The final battle when the sandworms charge is such a perfect combination of practical and cg, and there's a specific scene in the middle of the film where a priestess handles a young sandworm, I can't tell how much is practical and how much is cg but it would be awesome if you could have a look at it! Thanks! I really enjoy watching your reacts!
I know I’ve seen you do clips from Mission Impossible before but I have two suggestions from MI Fallout. 1st is when Solomon Lane is in the armored truck that fills with water. I think that angle is fascinating and would love to see how they did that. Another is when Benji assumes Lane’s likeness. That transition is really cool.
I'm not going to spoil anything. But the final scene of "Frozen Empire" had a gag in it that absolutely broke me. One of the funniest things I've ever seen. And it was definitely done for the older crowd because hardly anybody under 30 would even understand what happened. That, to me, is what separates great films from good ones- little details that don't need to exist but that add something you didn't know you needed.
Fun fact: the actor who did the body doubling for Egon in Ghostbusters: Afterlife was Bob Gunton, who played, among a litany of terrific roles, Warden Norton in The Shawshank Redemption.
There wasn’t a dry eye in my house when we saw how they handled Ramis. Hell I swelled up just watching that part in this video. It was handled so immaculately, respectfully, and they got the blessing of his family the whole the way through to make sure it was done right
That was a good commercial!! And trust me, i have never in my life said these words :) It was actualy watchable!!! You tried to entertain... Keep it coming!!

3:17 How did they match up the opaque cornflakes on Onionhead/Slimer with the double exposed puppet? Were the rotoscoped and a third pass applied to the background+Onionhead/Slimer overlay?
With Slimer/Onionhead, they had to do some extra trickery in optical to make the stuff that the ghost was holding look solid, while still having the ghost be transparent. It was especially difficult with the pouring wine.
10:44 okay, but how did they get that reflection of the people on the trunk of the crushed car made of wax? thats such a tiny detail thats literally there for less than a second, I'm surprised they even went that far? it looks so good man.
Of all the movies that came out in the 80s, Ghostbusters had easily some of the best visuals for a comedy film. No matter how many times I’ve watched it, both 1 and 2, the visual effects always hold up.

I just love wren and Jordan, man!! the BEST!!
I appreciate that when you talk about lighting you have the super purple lights on your set bouncing off of the couch cast.
Another awesome video!
P.S. Directors react episode 2 when? So looking forward to it.
I haven't seen Afterlife yet, But that Clip of Harold Ramos, Hit so hard. The best send off to a great man.
Onionhead? ONIONHEAD?!? Even his mama don't call him that anymore- you call him Slimer, and you put respect on it!
the fact that his eyes jump around at the points where a real person's actually might just shows how much effort they put into it.
I can't begin to tell you the impact this movie (1984) had on my life. I LOVED it!
2:29 you missed how the guy hiding behind the chair, ends up as a decoy for a guy doing puppeteering of the demon dog
As a hardcore fan, a lot of the little tidbits and comments were hilarious. "Flinstones mode Paul Rudd"
6:18 ILM did the same thing for background waterfalls on Naboo in Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace
The look of the Library Ghost in Frozen Empire makes me so happy because it looks like the original with cg enhancements.
"it's not a cloud it's just really dispersed water"
Well, i got some news for you lol
3:29 BRO SLIMER (onionhead) IS CAKED UP
I was really happy with how they handled Egon in Afterlife. Got me choked up a bit in the theater that’s for sure.
Oh y goodness, I just remembered, you guys should totally do "Honey I shrunk the Kids" and "Honey I Blew Up the Kids". Absolute classics.
Absolutely love Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters+Corridor= perfection
Fun fact: the actor who did the body doubling for Egon in Ghostbusters: Afterlife was Bob Gunton, who played, among a litany of terrific roles, Warden Norton in The Shawshank Redemption.
Man. Seeing grampa Egon come out and do his Ghost Goku moment got me choked up. They did great.
There wasn’t a dry eye in my house when we saw how they handled Ramis. Hell I swelled up just watching that part in this video. It was handled so immaculately, respectfully, and they got the blessing of his family the whole the way through to make sure it was done right
"We might be looking at a second Ice Age" got me... Firstly there have been many ice ages, secondly we are currently still in an ice age.
That was a good commercial!!
And trust me, i have never in my life said these words :)
It was actualy watchable!!! You tried to entertain... Keep it coming!!
Jordan hitting the pitch so well needs to be seen in another video from y’all! 🎉🎉
At 1:14:00 of Mel Brook's 1995 Dracula spoof there's a panning shot from Leslie Nielsen ballroom dancing to a mirror reflection where his partner is doing acrobatics without him there.
You guys should check out "Society of the Snow". The crash scene is the only one that comes to mind in terms of VFX, *but* there's a ton of insane VFX shots throughout the entire movie that look completely real. I'd like to see what you might have to say about how it's done
3:17 How did they match up the opaque cornflakes on Onionhead/Slimer with the double exposed puppet? Were the rotoscoped and a third pass applied to the background+Onionhead/Slimer overlay?
Maybe 😐
With Slimer/Onionhead, they had to do some extra trickery in optical to make the stuff that the ghost was holding look solid, while still having the ghost be transparent. It was especially difficult with the pouring wine.
Your ads are so clever.
This one made me smile.
Ghostbusters are my favorite movies! I hope to see more Ghostbusters on your channel
Truly one of the highlights of my week. Thanks guys!!
10:44 okay, but how did they get that reflection of the people on the trunk of the crushed car made of wax? thats such a tiny detail thats literally there for less than a second, I'm surprised they even went that far? it looks so good man.
6:50 Clouds: Am I joke to you?
Of all the movies that came out in the 80s, Ghostbusters had easily some of the best visuals for a comedy film. No matter how many times I’ve watched it, both 1 and 2, the visual effects always hold up.
