I totally agree. It's wise to have an investment, especially a property that's far enough from your country of origin or from your present country residence, especially if you travel a lot.

Maybe I'm just weird but I find these kind of vlogs way more interesting and entertaining where you see more about Jon's crazy projects and his work. For me it puts more perspective and authenticity into these videos than just watching jetskis, and helicopters and surf all the time. Don't get me wrong, they are awesome, too, but to have insights into his worklife gives me an opportunity to learn for myself, whereas these sole "fun" vlogs are just entertaining. Congrats on the deal Jon!

Hi Jun! I'm an Indonesian and YES I love my country. Been following your blog for a while, so now I'm happy to hear that you love her too and plan to invest here. I know Lombok and the beauty and the ugly of it... I agree that it has big potential, however the growth doesn't seem to be so much straight forward... Again, it doesn't always mean bad. Anyway, I hope you will have your dream house/property in Lombok... Only...... I really hope that you'd rethink the idea of using jet skis there... consider the nuisance it will create to that natural beauty. No no you don't need jet skis, traditional boat or simple motor boat would serve you well. we have a phrase here "kearifan lokal" which is a knowledge found by local tribes through experiences in trying to cope or adapt, and to integrate the understanding of the the existing culture and the natural condition of the place.

Make sure You contact Lawyers first!!! Oversea residents are not allowed to own a property in Bali. You need to find a local resident and the citizen of Indonesia who a house or a villa going to be registered on. Apart from that sign an agreement with them to make sure You are not pissed off afterwards and do not lose the money and the property. Good luck!

You can read about this on their site at tampahhills.com/investment/
"HGB (Hak Guna Bangunan) is an endorsed legal and transparent way for foreign citizens to invest in land in Indonesia, albeit only when they intend to build within a set timeframe. HGB titles are registered by the government and can be held either in an Indonesian citizen’s name or by an Indonesian legal entity. [...]"

Gustav yes... Indonesian always make it easier when people from outside of Indonesia want to invest their money here, what those investors need to do is research research and make decision.

Buy the lot as high as possible, Jon. Because...Indonesia lies exactly on one of the craters of the earth. So, Earthquakes are very common as same as Japan. Still people haven't recovered from 2004 worst devastating Tsunami, higher is the better. So, your property will not be damaged, if there is any natural disaster👍🏻

Guys... it's Lombok. Just a mere 15 min flight (2h speed boat ride) to Bali. Denpasar on Bali has one of the best hospitals, runned by foreign doctors in south east Asia, so don't worry about that. I also fell in love with south Lombok and started looking for a homestay for sale, but life is also serious with us sometimes so it will have to wait. But a nice Belgian guy showed me the way and hopefully one day.. for about 10 time less then Jon i will own something there.

This is the kind of investment which you pretty much can't go wrong with. Either a) land skyrockets and they make 10 times the money back in 15 years, or b) prices remain the same, but because prices are the same the land around them isn't exploited and they'll be living in paradise. In other words, the worst thing that can happen is that the land around you is purchased and you make 10x the money you sunk into it.

Pleeaasse, make an environmentally friendly paradise out there in Tampa Hills. You seem to be a builder Jon, in many ways; not afraid of creativity and challenges, show everyone how it should be done! Renewable energies, local materials and know-hows... Sobriety in luxury, that's the real overkillness!

Very smart investment. The road ahead will certainly be full of challenges, but remember to take a step back and acknowledge your accomplishments.

I love the area but I was wondering: Would I really want to fly that long (around 17 hours from London) every time I want to enjoy my beach house?
How politically and socially stable is it?
Maybe one day there will be locals at your door chasing you out of your home like in Corsica or they impose a very high tax.
Anyhow, I wish that everything will go well and Jon will be able to enjoy this house with his family and friends!

Land is cheap there for a reason... The islands of Lombok and Sumbawa lie in the central portion of the Sunda Arc. The Sunda Arc is home to some of the world's most dangerous and explosive volcanoes. The eruption of nearby Mount Tambora on Sumbawa is known for the most violent eruption in recorded history.

If the cost is 5 or 10 times lower respect marbella is because there is malaria and dengue fever, and no services like good hospitals. I think that if you unfortunately try dengue fever you'll never come back there. I'm sorry to tell you these things and go against your enthusiasm but just because you are very nice person I wanted to tell you.Ciao!

Spend about 2 months on Lombok last winter. Went to one of their newer hospitals 2 times. Friend broke a leg and i´ve got a condition. The hospital was insane. No waiting time. Probobly quite expensive but my insurance paid for me. I would say its better than most hospitals in the west.

    1. Do they have reliable water & electricity service there?
    2. What about the risk of a tsunami?
    3. Are foreigners allowed to own land there?
    4. Is there any infrastructure? Who will build and maintain the roads to get there? Is the local government efficient or corrupt?
    5. Are there many stores, restaurants, hospital or other services nearby? If not, how hard is it to live there?
    6. Will all the building supplies need to be imported? Is this much more difficult or expensive to do? Are there extra government taxes on this?
    7. How difficult and expensive is it to get to Bali? Is there a ferry service or only by airplane?
    8. Is Indonesia a stable place to invest?
    9. How long will you keep the house? Will you sell it within a year like your cars, or do you plan to keep it for the long term?
    10. If you have kids within a few years, will it be safe to bring a baby there or is it too remote?
You can buy a similar place in some parts of the USA for half the price, though you have to watch out for hurricanes, so don't just compare it to the most expensive places like Monaco and Marbella. Also, there's no cheap easyJet to get there, so it will cost a lot more for you and your friends to go there. Do you really want to spend so many hours on the airplane to get there? Sometimes some deals are cheap because they are really bad deals. Sometimes it's better to buy land and wait for the area to develop first, so you're not the first builder to have all the headaches. Also, check to see if any big hotels are planned for nearby! Good luck!

I think Mandalika project nearby by Indo government that convinces Jon to invest there. The Mandalika will be a gated 5 stars resort area with 1250 hectares in size (Paramount, Club med, Pullman, Marriot, Grand Hyatt etc) are having their 5 starts resort underconstruction already. It will be completed with MotoGP circuit and MICE facilities, yacht marina, hospitals, eco cultural parks, etc. Road, port, and power plant, also dams and other basic infras are underconstruction heavily in Lombok. Some are completed already.

    ouiiiii ~~~uh no!
..not sure 'bout this adventure..in theory sounds good..hope toasting coconuts is not an 'official' commitment. I do know that folks that 'live on island time' have a way different way of doing life..laid back ..so be prepared for this to take a verrrry long time. I am wondering ..what do you do for electric..and fresh water..and sewer for that matter. I do hope it all goes according to your dream..and I am sure Janni's dad will be there in a 'professional' capacity of knowledge of building a home..I wish you the best..I also wondered..do you tress pass on those 'farms' below. to get to the beach...did not see any roads. Some of the comments are speaking of true 'ownership'..so, seems like more 'research'..its a learning curve for sure. I have only done it once..building from ground up..and things took longer and more expensive. than you think...just so ya know..again..good luck.

Adrianus Tirta Sort of like where I'm from in Vancouver BC. Majority of land owners are not even from here and buy everything. Makes it out of price for people who live and work here. Look out Indonesia there's gonna be an invasion of foreign buyers!

yup, he can only lease the land, usually for 20 years i think,(and u can extend it with government approval)
or u can get the local to buy it for you, so its not on your name.
