Bas, you are not only the GOAT but you also simplify a lot of things and explain them really good, that's a special kind of intelligence. I never competed in combat sports but I did in Olympic weightlifting, and all the guys performed great in the gym, while I was having a really hard time reaching my max, but when time for the competition came, it changed. They couldn't handle the adrenaline, and me, my lips would go dry but I would use my fear to lift weights I couldn't lift in the gym. I regularly did personal bests in competitions, the public watching and the pressure helped me so much. It's like, in my mind I didn't want to make them lose their time watching me, so I had to impress. I hope to compete in combat sports and should do it soon as I'm 36, even if i feel great and can train with younger hungry athletes. OSU!
Do it now! It’s not too late. You will feel good into your 40s. I’m 50 now and I really feel my age now. There’s a huge difference between training at 40 than at 50. Go after it!
I’m 39, had my first MMA fight in 2017. The ring walk was ok and actually put on a slight spectacle before the fight as I made my walk to the tune of “hooked on an feeling” by Blue Suede in my Star Lords trench coat from Guardians of the galaxy 😂 1st minute went of fight actually went pretty good as I immediately landed a head kicked right after the bell rang. Then did a teep to my opponents stomach, skipped back evading his lunged punches, returned a couple of my own before getting my head struck twice. During a storm of hooks thrown by my opponent, I clinched him up and proceeded to throw my knees into his stomach from one side of the fence to the other. I continued to hold his head down, getting in some cheeky uppercuts, he popped his head up and as he came in, I caught him with a clean straight right. This lead to a significant guillotine hold which I did not execute properly (a huge regret) as I could of finished the fight. I let go of the guillotina and then I started to hesitate. Self doubt started to set in. My technique at this point went straight outside the window. He came in aggressively with more wild hooks again and I didn’t know what to do, left my chin up in the air and without my hands up and got knocked out cold. Never been knocked out before. I haven’t trained since. It broke my confidence and felt embarrassed. For years, I replayed that whole fight in my head wishing that I did things differently. I still do. However, I still hope to do another one to redeem myself but I’ve just tuned 39. I don’t know if I should? I know I’ll regret not trying for the rest of my life. Reading these comments has inspired me a little bit. Hope all you are successful in achieving your dreams
@@henrymera5805 hey bro that's a nice story, too bad for the ending but there's a good in everything and don't have regrets if you can do it. At least you tried, but maybe you should train and work on your "flaws" and at least be a more balanced fighter, even if it's not to get a second fight. When you get in shape you will know if you should go for a second fight, but don't put that stress on yourself from the beginning. Don't be embarrassed, there's always someone winning and losing in a fight (draws are so rare) the people that should be embarrassed are the ones criticizing from their couch. It also inspired me to read your comment and the first reply to my post too. I'll get in my best shape ever and then I'll decide about fighting (and I'm quite serious so I'm dropping weight now to get better endurance because that's my main problem).
Thank you for sharing this! At this very moment I am dealing with a situation that has me afraid, and I needed to be reminded it's not the fear that determines the outcome, but how I handle the fear while doing the right thing. Wisdom as always, sir, thank you.

You are awesome Bas, I had the pleasure of taking some of your classes in LA when you were teaching at a gym on the West Side. Thank you for the awesome inspiration you put out in your classes and on social media. Wishing you the best.

Bas just needed to say thank you! I was the overweight, passive bullied kid in school. I grew up watching Bruce Lee movies, and when I was 21, I saw you fight TK. That fight changed my life, and I started training my ass off. I wanted to do that. I was with a good team but learned your striking style and would use the cd as a warm-up. Also learned the parrying style instead of the regular blocks most do. I didn't get hit much in the striking aspect. I stepped into the cage 14 times. I never went to the ufc or nothing but just actually competing was a major accomplishment from who I was before. Thank you, sir!🫡

I was there, not only at the fights, but at weigh ins and all. Bas was reenacting the Yoshida-Frye bout to Jeremy Horn, just a few feet away from me. That Bas man, he moves FAST. It was scary to see so close ha ha. Speaking of Horn, as I speak French and back then Georges barely spoke English, he asked me to tell GSP that he would be a great one. And I did - mentioning it came from Horn. GSP was all red, flushing from the compliment. Later on, I was speaking on the phone in the hotel somewhere and Bas was passing by, going to the hotel pool. As he recognized me from the weigh-ins, he made a point to come say Hi and shake my hand. I replied in French because I was speaking on the phone and unfocused ha ha. Bas has such energy and people's skills! I admit I wondered why he didn't become a movie star. He just had that "it" factor, and his energy, charisma and charm should have got him many roles. I mean, he was really featured in Here Comes The Boom. Oh, the next night, my then GF made a point to hug Bas after the Ludwig fight LOL
