Great Episode! Love hearing viewpoints from those not knee deep in numbers and financials. Like the energy and vibe he's telling. Keep up the great work 😎!!

This is definitely interesting, great interview. My problem with the FIRE movement is that it is not financial independence necessarily. Your spending depends on what the market does, which is much more binary in nature and there is always this obsession with managing costs at any time.
I am 29 now, freshly married and am rather considering a balanced approach: at one point, a part-time job and a sizeable equities portfolio to benefit from. But not planning to do that until I am at least 50.

Eventually, the S&P 500 is going to decline 90% (at least in inflation-adjusted terms); and when that happens, we're going to see a lot of "riches-to-rags" stories. When that'll start, I don't know; but I'm sure it's going to happen.

Agree, this FIRE movement will evaporate within days in that case. Image theb looking for a decent job after being "retired" for a couple of years in the midst of a possible recession.

This guy never had any kids, just dogs. It’s like you didn’t live a complete life. I have $1.8 million at 31, but have kids and need insurance. What is his healthcare situation?

I think this lifestyle is kind of hedonistic. He won’t have any kids and will try to live off of this iceberg of capital. The ocean is warming. If no one works and no one has kids, there aren’t going to be goods and services and no one of working age when this guy is 62 to do anything.
He also has a wife, so cut his figures in half. I also treat the house as if it is only a an expense and assign no economic value to it for net worth.

Yeah and he lives off-grid and in the desert. Doesn’t sound very appealing to me. Sure I could quit my job, go live like the unibomber in the woods. Great.

Yep deffo agree - you need kids to have a complete life. What’s he gonna do if his wife leaves him.. half his assets gone and alone.
