On Millennial Investing, I bring Ben Felix for the third time to talk about Roth IRAs and Peter Thiel’s wealth-building strategy using one; endowment funds, endowment models, and David Swensen; how to navigate through and invest in high-dividend-yielding stocks, ETFs, NFTs, and more! Let us know your thoughts about our discussion below. - Robert

Great episode. Ben’s YT channel is chock full of useful info, and much of it is of value even outside of the Canadian context. There is a cool use of animation to explain some of the concepts. He has a very level headed approach to investing, removing emotion from the equation and sticking to strategies that are demonstrated to work in the long term. There is no material related short term trading. This is basic investing. It is worth checking out his channel.

Bitcoin’s fixed supply is nice but I think the primary draw is that it’s a decentralized asset that can be securely held by anyone. It doesn’t care where or who you are.

It's a bank free of human corruption that exchanges the hardest assets possible: math and truth.

NO. Not "everyone" has access to the investments someone like Thiel has.

The difference these days is big tech companies are literally taking over the world every year. So a fund manager who is all in on tech has had a hard time losing money in recent years.

Surprise surprise, a fund manager against the idea of owning bitcoin. Yawn.

So, you have no counter-arguments to his points then? Or to the enormous body of research that supports them? Thought so.

    My answer to Bens question:
Money has 3 functions (store of value, unit of account, and medium of exchange).
BTC is superior as a store of value becouse it has a capped supply.
That provides limitations to BTC being used as a currency, becouse it can not be inflated. Inflation is necessary to stimulate spending which turns into increased demand (hence small inflation is good).
Conclusion: BTC is still superior as a store of value, it will never be superior as a currency.

Inflation to be necessary for growth is simply a myth made by bankers to justify the constant debasing of the money supply !

And fun fact: gold was rarely used as everyday currency. We had silver pegged to a fixed ratio to gold and paper money redeemable for gold. Bitcoin need not be any different as a base layer of value.

The point of a store of value is the asset being stable, if it is common for the asset to increase or decrease in value by 50% in a few months that is not a store of value. BTC is not a store of value.

Access to accredited investor status in the u.s is limited to protect unsophisticated investors ( like me) from heavy loss. Access for its own sake might not be ethical either
