The Train is a 1964 war film directed starring Burt Lancaster, Paul Scofield and Jeanne Moreau. The picture's screenplay is loosely based on the non-fiction book Le front de l'art by Rose Valland, who documented the works of art placed in storage that had been looted by Nazi Germany from museums and private art collections.
Set in August 1944 during World War II, it pits French Resistance-member Paul Labiche against German Colonel Franz von Waldheim, who is attempting to move stolen art masterpieces by train to Germany. Inspiration for the scenes of the train's interception came from the real-life events surrounding train No. 40,044 as it was seized and examined by Lt. Alexandre Rosenberg of the Free French forces outside Paris.

An outstanding film that many have never heard of. I can't recommend it strongly enough.
WWII, trains, nazis, french resistance, Burt Lancaster and black and white. Not many movies better than this one. I own a copy.
Notice how much more real real explosions look when compared to computer faked films.
Now have a look at real WW2 bombing footage.
None of the whistle and bang of one bomb after another, just several bombs hitting the ground almost at once, bloody frightening to imagine the devastation to those on the ground.
@@montyzumazoom1337 this is true ... we see that in the movies and think that we could dodge some bombing from seeing where the bombs hit the one after the other
but in reality all the bombs hit at once lol
Ever since movies started using computer generated stuff instead of the real thing or models, I got really pissed off. Every computer-generated derailment I’ve ever seen is crap!
I remember that movie
Can't remember all the details but one of the cameramen was nearly killed taking the low angle shots of a runaway train. It was deliberately allowed to runawy but moved faster than the cameramen realised and it destroyed several cameras. I think I read one cameraman dived into a trench to escape but I might have got some details wrong!
