- In this Microsoft Access tutorial, I will show you how to find a record based on the value you select in a combo box.
Erin from Springfield, Missouri (a Platinum Member) asks: I love your Search Form 2.0 video. I have a great search form that works well because of you. Thank you. I'm trying to simplify it, however. Is there any way that we can just pick from a list of what's already in that field instead of having to type it in? For example, can I pick from a list of last names to show customers with that last name?
Silver Members and up get access to an Extended Cut of this video. Members will learn how to use multiple filter combo boxes together on the same form and either an AND or and OR condition. We'll also make a button to clear the filters.

Another great video again steve

I have been using the combo box search for a long time. However, I have a database that has over 100K records and this doesn't find all the records. I can start to type in the record and the field fills in alphabetically or numerically until there is a non-match on the digit. It can be very frustrating since I know the record is there and can find it using other techniques.
Yeah, there are much better methods for searching. This is an easy one for beginners. See 599cd.com/SearchForm
I have 2 tables that are the source for my form. I would like to create a combo search box on my form that would allow users to select the customer by last name as they are typing in the name. Can this be done using 2 tables as the source?

Where can I find the extended cut of this video. I have silver membership
Look for a link in the description below the video.
Combo box collects data from a table and thus is not in alphabetical order. How can I correct this. David

how to select multiple values in the combo box?
You can't. 599cd.com/QQ
Why can't we create an index and search based on that ? It will speed up query when we have few thousands of records.Your comments please.
Sure. Whatever works for you. :)
Mine won't auto autocomplete alphabet past a or b. I have to click the drop down, then type for autocomplete to work, if I sort a to z. Unsorted it works fine, but kinda defeats the purpose.
I believe there was a bug with sorting in the latest version of Access. I am not sure if they fixed that or not. Tried doing an office update and see if the problem goes away. If not, you might have to wait for the next release.

I spent the past 6 hours this morning pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to do this. Turns out I was using the wrong phrasing with Google trying to describe what I wanted to do. Anytime anyone tells me that they think I'm smart I'll probably tell them about this morning, but I probably won't be able to describe what happened making me unsuccessful in convincing them that I am an idiot.
