In 1984 an article in a newspaper showed a photo of Simons dad John the headline said What a caring dad. It was said that Simon dabbled in drugs, a little, it didn’t say what drugs and his dad put a stop to it.
I discovered a wonderful song he wrote and sang called Great lady of the sea. I heard it while watching Simon‘s documentary on his sailboat yacht called drum. It’s an interesting documentary that I recommend watching here on TH-cam.

In an interview Simon said he realized using/ tasting drugs made his voice changed that’s why he quit doing it
you can see that it changed somewhere around 1985 or 1986 to not being as deep.
