    Had a 318 in a 1974 w model ford. Great old engine. Then owned a 1968 cab over Pete with one. Screaming jimmy.

    My dad was a truck driver and I remember these 352 trucks and they were terrifying when I was a kid. My dads old job, the company bought a bunch from another company that went out of business. I would not ride in them. I regret it now, I would love to see them again now.

    Reading through the comments section, people seem to be confusing a 318 as one engine and Detroit Diesel as another. Just to clear things up, this is likely to be running either a 318hp 8V71 Detroit Diesel or if it's a mid to late seventies's model, possibly a 360hp 8V92. Love the old 352 COE Pete's with the 2 stroker's in em! Cheers

      Judging by the green colour my money is on the 8V71. The 8V92 tend to be silver.
      Cool truck but.

      The door handles are down low on 1977 & newer 352's. Knew someone who bought a '77 new & the door handles were low. I had a '76 & '75 with 1693's & the door handles were up high like these . . ..... . ... 10-4 . . ....

      When the camera looks under the passenger side of the cab, you can catch a glimpse of the cast iron Y pipe where both banks become one before going
      up to the Turbo. That would make it a 350 hp 8V 71. Also noticed that the driver side stack rain cap doesn’t open. Perhaps the exhaust system has been
      modified and all the exhaust is out the passenger side. Seems to be a lot of smoke under the truck. I drove a new 77 352 with a 435 Silver 92. Hauled
      hanging beef from Alberta to Ontario and Quebec. Driving the hills around Lake Superior in Northern Ontario you learned that driving a 10 speed direct
      with 3:90 rears ( 66 mph ) you had to hold it back coming down long hills so you had a bit to go RPM wise so you could spool up the turbo and have some
      boost, or you had a bad dead pedal lag to get you up the other side of the hill. Lots of people comment about how wonderful 2 stroke Detroits where.
      If you had to drive one day in, and day out, you’d be happy to drive something that could pull all day at 1400 RPM. I also worked in a tug that had 2
      12v 71 TT’s, and a combination of 3-71’s, and a 53 series DD. Noise ? They got. One final thing. Note the split rim tube type wheels. Nice original
      looking truck. Too bad it’s got jackknife damage.

    318, fill the oil and check the fuel, and don't forget to slam your hand in the door, so your pissed off enough to drive the damn thing.😉

    Looks like my old 352 Pacemaker series ,but mine had the small cam 400 Cummins (13sp) These we're what primarily ruled the road in the 70's when I came up around trucking. Not sure, but that looked like maybe a 8V71 Detroit. I actually prefer a cabover to a conventional. Being that I was initially trained in a 84 Mack Cruiseliner. They back & corner tighter, and more aerodynamic than you'd think. Best of all, cheaper to operate. Which is what matters when you're the one paying the bills!

    • @carolinagoldbug983
      @carolinagoldbug983 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s a ‘cool’ factor to the old cabovers……but if you’re long-hauling, their sleepers suck.

    • @carolinawestern3875
      @carolinawestern3875 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carolinagoldbug983 I never really minded them, but they're what I was raised up on from the start in the 70's. My Kenworth K100a had a dual air over shock set up on the rear cab. Now if you're talking about the old Reyco spring type. Then yes they'd knock you around.

    • @carolinagoldbug983
      @carolinagoldbug983 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carolinawestern3875 I understand, brother. You can take the old trucker out of the cabover, but you can’t take the cabover out of the old trucker 😁. Again, if there was a way to get a more ‘stretched’ sleeper out of the deal instead of just a ‘bench’ bunk behind your neck, I’d be more for them. Having said that (having a more functional sleeper), yeah……I think they’ve gone overboard with some sleeper setups. It’s like some truckers LITERALLY have their houses riding behind the driver’s seat (fireplaces, like a hotel suite). That’s a bit much, even for me lol. But room to stand up and walk behind your seat and have a small ‘open’ area with fridge, storage, microwave, etc. THAT’S the ticket!
