Hi Glenn...really enjoyed this lovely spiritual and your playing ! I never knew the Byrds did a version of this one ...so had to listen to there cover of it and really enjoyed their country style of it ..thnaks for sharing this Glenn ! all the best !
Dear Nancy, thank you for your lovely comments and inspirational words! The Byrds covered this song in their 1968 album "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" while Gram Parsons recorded and toured with the band. A full history of the Byrds may be found in Johnny Rogan's "The Byrds: Timeless Flight Revisited - The Sequel," a fascinating story. My grandparents were from Kentucky and enjoyed this style of music, the old time Bluegrass sound. Thanks for visiting my channel! Sincerely, Glenn
Howdy Pilgrim, The trails over, you have covered almost a 1,000 miles in your quest for a new land and a new life, so make your fire, sing your songs, form tomorrow we start to build the new town. Dutifully, the trail worn man takes up his cordeen and walks to the fire, sits upwind of the men sitting in a circle eating beans, (!) and starts this plaintive tune, at first alone but soon joined by so many weary travellers, their tiredness given a new energy boost by this kindly musician. Mike
Thank you for these sensationally imaginative comments, dear Mike! You are one of the few artists I know that can create an entire cinematic scene from just a few initial elements and draw out the complete embellishment of characters, unique set design, stage direction, and luminous landscape. Not to mention dialogue, of course, and that creative sense of humor which seems to invade even the more serious moments in film. Love that expression "cordeen" (or is it "cordine"?) a Western-themed figure of speech which delightfully soars up to the stratosphere to strike the funny bone and send us into fits of laughter. I cannot watch a Western film, however, without seeing you perched in the corner playing some old-time music on your Roland (in place of the usual piano-player.) Somehow this has come to be expected and I find the prospect to be eminently suitable...especially with your Cowboy hat, a full beard, linen suspenders, a checkered shirt and striped grey and black trousers. Add the Cowboy boots and - Voila! - you have the makings of a fine scene in a classic motion picture film. You rock, Mike, and you "da man!" Greetings from Cordine Alley, West of the Pecos River, in a dusty music hall & saloon, Glenn
Hello Glenn, I haven't heard this song in many years. It is lovely listening to you play it. I do not receive notices of your musical postings anymore. I will check my settings to see if I can determine what the problem is. Have a wonderful day. Fran
Dear Fran, thank you for your lovely comments! This song was one of the standouts on the album "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" recorded by the Byrds in 1968. It has a gentle style and an easy melody which seems to be absorbed and recalled long after we initially hear it. Yes, the new Google arrangement is a bit difficult to fathom, and I often cannot reply to comments as readily as the old You Tube structure. Hopefully, prospects for friends and connections will improve with time as we sort through the system and become more familiar with the details. Thank you for visiting and leaving such nice comments! Glenn
Pozdrawiam, Glenn
