    It’s was thrilling and exciting to see the fireman in this film. They are true heroes, yes it was a film but it depicted what these guys really do. While people run from the flames and destruction firemen are running in the opposite direction, into the flames!! Again I think back to, 911, and wish I had a stronger word than heroic to describe those who run into the flames.

    Thanks Pizza Fix guy ( or gal ) . This was a really good film. It had a great story
    and the special FX were awesome not just for their time but even today. Somehow
    when we see a film like this today we know it's not at all real with all the CGI and green screen technology.
    When this film was being made all that fire was real and those actors and actresses and stunt people
    were taking real chances in those scenes. It was cool to watch that Hook & Ladder truck make those corners with a driver at the front and another guy steering from the rear.

    One of the things I liked about some of these old movies was real news footage incorporated in to the story. It was usually from a tragic event unfortunately but it added a level of reality that most studios could never pull off.

    10:23 A 1932 Ford Roadster chasing fire trucks through 1934 Los Angeles - how cool is that?
    A romp through digital archives of Los Angeles city directories shows Pure Carbonic Incorporated (10:28) to be at 514 Molino Street and the California Waste & Wiping Rag Co. (10:38) at 502 Molino. At 10:41 the Ford turns right with the General Paint Corporation (544 Mateo) behind him. That distinctive building still exists and can be found on Google View. The area is now referred to as Los Angeles' 'Art District'. www.google.com/maps/place/544+Mateo+St,+Los+Angeles,+CA+90013/@34.0407767,-118.2356138,17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x80c2c63cd106801f:0x174492779c8a67f5!8m2!3d34.0403844!4d-118.2326978
    The Cinema Mercantile Co. (sign at 11:14) was not listed in the 1934 or 1932 directories but does show in the 1928 at 5857 Santa Monica Boulevard which places it across the street from Hollywood Forever Cemetery, formerly Hollywood Memorial, resting place of many luminaries of filmdom. That scene and some of the others are likely stock footage of actual LAFD responses sandwiched between backlot work. The Los Angeles Times building, then brand new, is plainly visible toward the right on the backdrop screen used for the 'jumping out of a window' shot at 13:19 . The Times would not occupy their new digs until 1935, by 2019 they had moved out.
    The fire station at 34:08 is LAFD#29 www.lafire.com/stations/PhotoGallery.htm . The building still exists, now repurposed. The station at 34:12 is #61 www.lafire.com/stations/PhotoGallery.htm .

    • @bendendenhansen3769
      @bendendenhansen3769 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Terie Spencer Dangerous superheated gases need to be vented to allow firefighters to safely and quickly rescue trapped occupants and extinguish the fire. Venting the window (horizontal ventilation) of a room that is on fire, actually helps to contain the fire within that room of origin. Otherwise heated gases spread throughout the inside of the house. Breaking the window really prevents a great deal more damage than it appears to cause. Replacing broken glass is much less expensive than repairing structural damage from the fire.

    Bruce Cabot's real name was Etienne Pelissier Jacques de Bujac. I wonder if his name was an inside joke for him as "cabot" in French slang means "ham actor". Also "cabotin". Amazingly he made 9 films in 1933 and 7 in '34.
    It is funny to see society people trample over each other. Not very proper.
