  • We change sites at Douglas Dam at Douglas Lake. A day of shopping, getting pastries in Gatlinburg at Friar Donut and waiting out a really bad thunderstorm. Still a great day!
    This series/playlist is part of our daily van travel vlog. Here’s a link to the entire playlist: • Episode 1: W. Kerr Sco...
    Instead of the usual motorhome or 5th wheel retired life, we chose a van trekking lifestyle for our retirement years. It’s more adventurous and definitely a more nimble way of living life. During this pandemic we are trying to stay within 4 hours of our NC home, so a van trip across America is out of the question for us. So what can we do? Planning a rv road trip is never easy, but it helps to have a theme. Our theme this trip is to try to visit as many dams, reservoirs and lakes as we can in a 2-3 week period. Along the way, we’ll do our best to daily vlog the highs and lows.

    Enjoyed your laid back day that also included some of your favorite bakery goodies! Just proves you don’t need to have jam packed days to have a good day. Sometimes just eating a Cream Cheese Danish or eclair is just the ticket to a good day! By the way, I binge watched most of your Alaska trip yesterday. What an awesome trip. My husband and I went on an Alaskan Land and Cruise trip when we retired in 2011 so we saw some of the same places you visited. We didn’t get to see Denali due to inclement weather...drizzling rain. 😕 But we did see the sled dogs. The train ride through miles and miles of wilderness was cool, too. Every now and then the train would slow to a stop and a local passenger would get off and disappear into the wilderness after a trip back to civilization for supplies or services. We never saw anything that looked like a hut, shack or cabin but we knew they lived out there somewhere! Off the grid for real. Thanks again for sharing your trips and the things you learn (or relearn !) along the way. You are living your best life, one day, one mile, one campsite at a time. Keep it up. It is a lesson we all need to learn. Savor every moment. 🥰

    Karen and I love Pigeon-Forge and Gatlinburg! We go there every other Summer. We usually rent a Log Cabin and spend a week there. You're right about comparing it to Ocean City. That's exact what I tell everyone. Hmmm, now I'm craving a Dam donut!

      We done the cabin thing before with the family, it is a great place to take the family, so much to do. Those donut/danish keep us going back. Thanks for watching.

      Glad we can give you hope. It is not the same though for sure. Just so you know. Trips are better than staying at home but to tell the truth they are not nearly as fun as they were before the pandemic. Make the most of it though is our motto.

    I literally laugh out loud every time Owen eats something he finds so tasty! That head sway/body "sway" he does when words just aren't enough is such fun to watch! And I really like it when you both show us how you live on the road, from setting up all your gear, tearing it down, cooking, resting, etc. It really helps me to see me and my husband being able to do these things, (one day soon, I hope!).
    Lynn, you do a great job with the "decor" in the Travato. I like to see the different comforters, blankets and pillows you choose, at different times of the year. The throw blanket you are currently using, is really attractive and cozy! Thanks, again, for the daily vlog! It's fun to know that when I watch, it all happened just the day before!

      Owen does love and enjoys good food, I love seeing his joy too. Thanks for compliment on the decor, I do like to change it up and make it homey, it is hard sometimes because we don’t like to take unnecessary things.

    How about a pie tour? I’ve been known to drive many miles for a good sour cherry pie with vanilla bean ice cream or a Boston Cream eclair. I could be wooed over to the Danish though and buttered hot dogs for dessert!

    Question: Do you disconnect that cute little trailer when you did the donut run? If so, is there some sort of locking mechanism so it doesn't get stolen? Enjoying the dam trip. Haven't been to Gatlinburg in a long time. Makes me want to travel.

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we disconnected the trailer. The hitch for the trailer has a lock. So we close it so you can't tie it and lock it. Works great.

Here’s the link to the roof rack... it’s actually made for cargo vans to carry ladders but it works perfectly. It was a little tricky to get it on the gutters... had to bend them out about 1/2 inch but it fits tightly and securely. www.amazon.com/dp/B07HY2S3MB/?ref=exp_vantrekkinglifestyle_dp_vv_d

    We are going through this area late November early December from northern Wisconsin to Florida, how is the weather for traveling with a 5th wheel? Does it snow? And do you have any advice?

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle

      Weather can be bad but in December it's usually OK. We rarely have snow for Christmas. Our temps are usually freezing overnight and warming to 50s in that time of year.
