    I wholeheartedly agree with Jeff L, Marc. Hwy 12 is an unmitigated jewel and the whole area is just stunningly beautiful. I have traveled a lot and believe southern Utah is the most beautiful part of our country.

      Grand Adventure, Absolutely!! I had sent an email to your website but never got an email back. My fiancé and I are getting married in October. It was gonna be a big party but now it’s an adventure elopement. We are looking to do it in CO because their marriage laws do not require a witness, you can actually self solemnize your ceremony in CO (otherwise I’d choose Utah). But we are looking to rent a van for about two weeks to do this. Any “I Do” places in mind? Trying to avoid National Park wedding permit fees even tho I LOVE the Great Sand Dunes in south central CO. Or just recommendations for a circle route out and back into Denver.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elyssethekraken4143 Oh shoot, Elysse...my apologies, I'll go back and find that email. I confess that I'm sometimes really bad at email. Congrats to both you and your fiancée! Hmmmm...the right place in Colorado...Crested Butte comes to mind with some stunning vistas overlooking Mt. Crested Butte, but especially later in October that can actually be snowy. GSD is a great choice, too, as is Black Canyon of the Gunnison which would come with similar NSP wedding fees. How about in the valleys surrounding Silverton? (Same potential snow issue, though.)

    • @elyssethekraken4143
      @elyssethekraken4143 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grand Adventure no worries!! And thank you :) we got engaged in Yellowstone at The Grand Prismatic Spring September 2019. I agree with you that all of those places are beautiful! But I do worry about the elevation for mid October.. very unpredictable. What about around the garden of the gods area? We have a friend who lives in Trinidad CO! Staying there for two nights during our road trip ended up being a great idea because we were able to ease into the desert climate a little bit before heading to Canyonlands (our first NP of the trip! One of my most fond sunset memories and ironically one of your canyonlands episodes is how I first discovered your channel)!! All kind of random and rambling, but the point is I look up to your knowledge about unpopular spots and the terrain.

    Gorgeous road and video, but not a place to take a big rig like a long fifth wheel. Not many pull outs and very curvy. Traffic can get heavy at times, especially in the afternoon and things get slow if there are a lot of RV's on the road. Follow this road to Torrey (just before entering Capital Reef NM) and you'll find some very good eats at places like Cafe Diablo. Dining isn't bad at the Bryce Canyon Lodge either, surprisingly upscale! Great first come first served campground at Capital Reef, get there early for a spot. Cool and well tree'd and well maintained.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's one of our favorite parts of Utah, Alan. By the way, there was another notification I got from another comment from you today, but when I search TH-cam for the comment it's not there. I don't want you to think that I'm ignoring you.

    • @campingalan
      @campingalan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GrandAdventure Hmmm...interesting. It was most likely your updated "how to find boondocking campsites, Ep 181". I just looked, as well, and the comment is gone. Aside from thanking you for the great overlay public lands map that you included. I also commented that map just assisted me greatly. The other day, I flew my boss back from CA to Telluride. While going over Valley of the Gods, I spotted this great area up on top of a bluff to the NW of Valley of the Gods. Well, it ended up being WSW of Moki Dugway; and come to find out, it was actually National Park lands from the Glen Canyon Rec Area. I would have been busted for boondocking in the protected areas hehehehe.
      Also, I think I mentioned earlier before, we were close to finally getting an RV set up. Well, I have an Outdoors RV 22FQS on order. Also, I opted to not get any travel trailer to struggle with in my Tacoma. I also bypassed the Tundra and am going for a 1 ton gasser. Not the softest of rides, but we will always have room to upgrade further. Thank you very much for your comments several months ago about not necessarily needing a tiny 20ft camper to still be able to enjoy most of the boondocking options out there.
      Safe travels!

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@campingalan congratulations on making a decision! I'm very happy for you. You're going to love your new purchase. And double check, but I believe that most Glen Canyon National Recreation Area land is permissible for boondocking.

    • @campingalan
      @campingalan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GrandAdventure Thank you very much!! Yes...greatly looking forward to it! The only thing I won't necessarily like about our floorplan is that it only has a dinette; no couch or seats. But.....I'm pretty much an always outside without regards to weather person. So, I'll just write it off as a small sacrifice for great inside storage and such.
      Ok....thank you for that heads up!! I will definitely look into that, for sure. It was a very dominating rim top location, almost like being at Dead Horse Point State Park.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@campingalan if so, feel free to privately share the location if you're willing. You're sure it's not atop the Dugway within Bears Ears? (Boondocking within Bears Ears is legal, too.)
      Outdoors RV has a tremendous reputation.

    How long was the stretch of Hogsback?
    That was cool that you met the grandson on Hells Backbone.
    Couldn’t believe someone in their mid eighties would have the wherewithal to create a coffee shop like that one.
    I was surprised they no-one was swimming at the Lower Creek Falls.
    The Devils Playground was so bizarre!!

    You did an amazing job of capturing the feel of this area, which is no small task! I've been going there many years, and it is truly one of the most spectacular places on the planet (perfect for your drone skills). Memories too many to count. I was,pregnant with my now adult son the first time I hiked calf creek, so we've always joked that was his 'first hike'.
    And nice to see some solid earth under your tires. :o)

    Another beautiful area, especially the falls at Calf Creek. It looks like there is a lot of variety in the area. Thanks for letting us know there is nice forest camping not far out of Boulder to beat the heat in the summer.
    I saw your post mentioning there is Verizon cell signal between Boulder and Escalante. How about above Boulder in the forest area? Google shows there are gas stations in both Boulder and Escalante. Do you remember if they sell diesel? I can see easily spending a couple of weeks there if I could get a cell signal and fuel. Sorry to hear you could only spend the weekend but you sure took a lot in!

    • @GrandAdventure

      Bruce, we found spotty, but surprising cell service on Boulder Mountain with Verizon. I know that there's diesel in Escalante, not sure about the two small gas stations in Boulder (but given all of the trucks and ranching equipment in the area, if bet on it.) And we'll definitely be back!

    Hi Mark, were you near highway 12 between Bryce and Capital Reef ? If so, I driven that before, its a very scenic drive.
    I was in your neck of the woods a week ago. I went to Boise, Idaho to purchase a new camper, traded in my teardrop. I had stayed one night at the KOA in Brigham City. Very small sites, but very beautiful mountains nearby. The Maddox Ranch house was closed that night. Somebody had recommended that place to me. I will be updating my icon soon to my new camper.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent Eric, congrats on the new rig! Looking forward to hearing all about it
      In Brigham City you were about an hour to 75 minutes north of us (without traffic), and yes, in this episode we were about midway between Bryce and Capitol Reef, camping about a mile and a half off route 12.

      I got a blue 35th edition a-liner aframe popup with hard dormers. I wanted something larger than the teardrop but still fit in the garage. There was an article in this months trailer life magazine about the aframes.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rod, we were getting 2-3 bars of Verizon 4G at camp, boosted. The signal is stronger at other sites earlier on the Spencer Flat Road, and even more so at sure further west towards Escalante off Hole-in-the-Rock Road.

    I have been traveling in Virginia and Tennessee and stopped for the night in North Little Rock. Where I finally had enough connection speed to watch the new release, it was worth the wait.

    I just found your channel last night and am enjoying your videos! I'm doing research for a trip I'm taking in April about RVing in the Escalante. Is there any tips you can give to find suitable BLM roads or camp areas for RV'ers? I look forward to watching more of your videos.
