I met Carmine after he came here to Western NY to hold a drum competition which I came in 1st place on. He sat on the panel as the only judge. After winning, I hung out with him backstage, talked with him a little bit, and took some pics with him. He’s a cool dude, very down to earth.

Bill Bruford sold his stuff last year as well. Clapton, Gilmour & Alex Lifeson recently sold large amounts of their collections. this isn't new. And if Alex decides one day to play again, I am sure he'll be able to raise enough capital to purchase a new set.
I doubt AVH has to pay for anything drum related. His people just call up Ludwig/Paiste. AVH has made them a fortune with his endorsement.
Please GOD may i look as good as Carmine at 77, 47 years from now.

Met Carmine at a drum clinic over thirty years ago at a drum clinic as a kid. He was a giant and was no freakin cool. Got his autograph on the back of a a peavey sticker. Great memory. Put on a great clinic as well.
Drums of any size are precision instruments made to be played. Not stored. Totally agreed.
Reverend Al isn't stupid..us drummers usually aquire mass amounts of gear and it takes up space! If you know you don't need half of it anymore and you're in your in yer 60s why not let it go while everyone still remembers and loves you! I'm still a big Pa I S t e 2002 cymbals fan because of Alex!

Perfect example of if you give something free to something then it becomes worthless. Like giving free education or paying student loans for free...then education is worthless. If a person doesn't save up and pay for it themselves then they don't give a poop about it. If I were a company that gave him stuff and heard he never even played it....I'd be embarrassed and regret giving it to him.
Carmine is the most self-centered, self-aggrandizing celebrity musician I've ever seen/heard. (Well, except for Gene Simmons. 😁) It's always: "I did this and I did that." It's so annoying!
Yes, he is undoubtedly a legend for good reason and definitely made his mark as a drummer and educator in the world of music. BUT, I think his constantly having to point out what he's done (to legitimize himself in his own mind), stems from the fact that he was never able to get over his insecurity and feeling of inferiority by being overshadowed by John Bonham.
No matter how he tries to publicly paint his relationship with him in a positive light, I believe that he always did and always will resent John for the HUGE and lasting impact he had and still has on the world of Rock drumming and Rock drummers.

I've been a drummer since the '70s... I got to say I never really got Carmine's technical skills. Sure, he was there during a lot of pivotal and historical rock and roll moments. but I always thought his brother Vinny was a much tastier drummer.
Exactly brother. Carmine is home stroking it right now because people are talking about him. Zero relevance anymore. He was great as Phil Leotardo in the Sopranos though, and how he ate grilled cheese off the radiator to make it. Still not worthy to lick the sweat off of Tommy Aldridge’s nutsack….
Who clicked on this to hear about Alex but knew they would hear more about Carmine? And was he talking about mic stands? I thought I heard something about mic stands but I must have dozed off.
Carmine wanted more mic stands so we got his every word.
Let’s all face it, Carmines look in the Village People is iconic and he still gets royalties and licensing for use of the mustache. Him and Gene Simmons are the number one cause of global warming from so much hot air.

That last name is in my family, it's not A-peace, in Italy it's pronounced A-Peach-A, in the U.S. it A-pah-Cee.
It's all about 0:08 it's so important to do as you age and not leave all to your children who don't even want their parent's stuff. It’s a huge problem for baby boomers who inherit tons of stuff from their parents and no one wants it. I like that before you pass away to do your best to give possessions away. Auction houses are very difficult but they are online now but treat you like what you have isn't worth anything! 😢 because it's old no nobody wants your stuff. It's awful as there is little appreciation for old stuff! So Carmine is being very authentic about his great collection and honest down to earth reality.
His purple leopard kit was reduced, in case anyone is interested...
He doesn’t know why Alex did what he did. No one does. We can all speculate, but Carmine said nah, I’m doing that.

He considers himself the “godfather of drums”… and rightfully so.. he was really the first rock drummer..

I’ve always wanted a 26” kick. I just love that Bonham sound. But have always wondered why no one has made a pedal that’s designed to hit centre of a 26” It would only require slightly longer side posts, but no one’s done it.
I just got FOUR 26” kicks for my new kit… lol I’ll post a video when my renovations are done!

Jeremy calls him "Carmine uh-PIECE" but Ronnie James Dio used to refer to his brother as "Vinnie AP - pi - see." So, which is correct?
They both say their last names differently… I say it the way Carmine told me to say it.
@JeremyWhiteShow Thanks for the clarification! Years ago, I took a marketing class at Cal State Fullerton with their sister. (Needless to say, I didn't learn much in that class because all we did was talk classic rock haha). She pronounced it like Carmine does as well. But I certainly can't blame Vinnie for wanting to blaze his own trail. Great interview, Jeremy. Keep up the great work!
I agree with Carmine, Drums are meant to be played not sit in a warehouse. I mean you may have some snare drums or a set you will not part with and leave to your grandchild, but all the equipment to sit in a warehouse? He's correct. I just heard a guy on U-tube say he owns and maintains 85 snare drums! That's complete selfishness.

Not only that, but you have to pay money to store the stuff you aren't using. If you sell, no more storage fee & you get money. Plus, someone is bragging about how they own your stuff (which I'm sure Carmine loves😂). Bottom line, It's better being used or on display than sitting in a hot locker possibly warping.
You can't take any of it with you. Eventually, you have to let go... and if Alex ever wants to play again, he will get a new kit like he did for every tour. So... sell it.
Sell now because...its worth more now while there's still VH interest..not 10 years from now...take the $$

Carmine, have you heard about the auction Alex Van Halen is having for all of his gear? Well I’m glad you asked. I’ll tell you, if it wasn’t for me and vanilla fudge, or to be more exact ME, John Bonham never would have become famous and Led Zeppelin would have been a bar band in England. I invented double bass and many people don’t know this, but I invented drums too. That’s right. Ludwig asks me for my approval before they have any drums leave the assembly line.

May Alex had a tax issue that he needed to settle. Happens a lot to people in the entertainment industry.

Let's face it. it may be primarily about money. Alex didn't write any music or lyrics, which means he doesn't get any royalties, or just some. He makes money by playing gigs, and the last gig VH played was in 2015... So for the past 9 years Alex has lived from... Yeah, from what ? Plus he divorced multiple times, which can be quite expensive. And because of your status as a world famous rockdrummer you have a certain lifestyle, which can be money consuming too. So... Selling all that useless equipment is the first step to create some bucks. Not that hard to understand really.
